The wagon outfit with the fastest time (including penalties) in the $150,000.00 sudden death championship final heat on the final day of competition is declared the Calgary
Stampede GMC Rangeland Derby Champion. The participants in the $150,000.00 sudden death championship final heat are the four wagon outfits having the fastest total
times (including penalties) from the 2 semi–final heats on night 9.

Residence: Westerose, Alberta
Troy is the reigning Calgary Stampede GMC Rangeland Derby
champion, the Calgary Stampede Aggregate winner, and won the
Calgary Stampede's Safe Drive Award for Least Penalized Driver
title all in. He won the Ponoka Stampede in 2012 as well becoming the first chuckwagon driver to win chuckwagon racing’s “Triple
the Calgary Stampede’s Centennial Celebration year of
2012Crown” consisting of the Ponoka Stampede, Calgary
Stampede Aggregate and the GMC Rangeland Derby in a single
year. Troy won the Calgary Stampede's Orville Strandquist Award
for Top Rookie Driver in 1998 and has qualified for the Calgary
Stampede GMC Rangeland Derby's winner–take–all championship final heat three times. He won the WPCA Clean Drive
Award in 2011 and was the WPCA's Top Rookie Driver in 1993. Troy is a third generation chuckwagon driver with one of the most famous last names in professional chuckwagon racing. He has placed inside the
top ten in the World Standings seven of the past eight years including the past six years consecutively.
Doug Irvine

Birth Date: August 8, 1975
Residence: Bonnyville, Alberta
Doug had his most successful Calgary Stampede to date
qualifying for his first GMC Rangeland Derby
winner–take–all championship final finishing second by a
mere one one-hundredth of a second – the closest winnertake-all final in Calgary Stampede history. He won his first
Calgary Stampede day money on day 4 of the 2012 GMC
Rangeland Derby, and ran penalty free all ten days. Doug
was the Ponoka Stampede champion in 2008, received the
WPCA Clean Drive Award in 2006, and outrode for two
Calgary Stampede GMC Rangeland Derby Championship
outfits and 3 Calgary Stampede Aggregate winners. He
was runner–up to the Dewberry World Chuckwagon Races
and the North American Chuckwagon Championship in 2011. Doug started his career with on the
CPCA circuit where he was the CPCA’s High Point Rookie Driver in 1998, the CPCA’s High Point
Rookie outrider in 1993 and the CPCA outrider champion in 1997.
Gary Gorst

Birth Date: January 31, 1955
Residence: Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan
Gary had his most successful Calgary Stampede to date qualifying for his first GMC Rangeland Derby winner–take–all championship final and having his outriding horse “Smiles” named to the
Calgary Stampede’s inaugural Equine Outfit of Excellence in
2012. He qualified for the GMC Rangeland Derby’s “Semi Final
Saturday” in 2010, and joined the WPCA Pro Tour in 2012 qualifying for the winner–take–all championship final in his first event
at the Grande Prairie Stompede. Prior to joining the WPCA, Gary
had a very successful career on the CPCA circuit where he was
the 2010 CPCA Champion driver, the CPCA’s High Point Driver
three times in four years, and won 13 show championships in a
5 year stretch. Gary won the CPCA’s Bruce Bremner Award for
the Most Consistent Barreling Outfit in 2010, received the
CPCA's Chuckwagon Family of the Year Award in 2005, and qualified for the winner–take–all final for the
CPCA Championship in six consecutive years and finished no worse than 3rd overall in the same time period. Gary is a second generation wagon man whose father Art Gorst competed at the Stampede in the late
1970’s and early 1980’s. Gary is the father of fellow driver Logan Gorst and champion outrider Dustin Gorst.
Jason Glass

Birth Date: December 15, 1970
Residence: High River, Alberta
Jason won his fourth career World Chuckwagon Championship
in 2012, his right leader “Tycoon” was named to the Calgary
Stampede’s inaugural Equine Outfit of Excellence, and he made
his sixth trip to the GMC Rangeland Derby’s winner–take–all final.
2012 also saw Jason win the WPCA’s GMC Sierra Cup series,
the Grande Prairie Stompede, and for the fourth time he had a
horse named to the WPCA’s Equine Outfit of Excellence. Jason
is a two–time Calgary Stampede Aggregate winner, received the
Calgary Stampede’s prestigious Guy Weadick Award in 2010,
and won two Calgary Stampede Safe Drive Awards for least
penalized driver. He won the WPCA Clean Drive Award in 2008,
was the WPCA's Top Rookie Driver in 1989, Top Rookie Outrider
in 1987, received the WPCA's Most Improved Chuckwagon
Outfit Award in 1990, and was WPCA’s Most Improved Outrider in 1988. He outrode for two Calgary
Stampede GMC Rangeland Derby Championship outfits and three Calgary Stampede Aggregate winners.
Jason is a fourth generation chuckwagon champion, whose father Tom Glass, grandfather Ronnie Glass,
and great-grandfather Tom Lauder are some of the greatest names in the sport has ever known.

Residence: Grande Prairie, Alberta
Kirk has qualified for the GMC Rangeland Derby’s
winner–take–all final three times, and his horse “Skippy”
was named to the Calgary Stampede’s inaugural Equine
Outfit of Excellence. 2012 also saw Kirk win the Bonnyville
Chuckwagon Championship, his third career Battle of the
North in Dawson Creek, B.C., and established new track
records at both locations as well. He was runner up to the
2012 World Chuckwagon Championship, and his horse
“Cougar” was named to the WPCA’s Equine Outfit of
Excellence. He won three day monies at the 2012 GMC
Rangeland Derby which was the start of an incredible
streak of eight consecutive day monies by the same four
horses. Kirk was the WPCA Most Improved Outfit award winner in 1984, and along with his brother Kelly are the only brother combination to qualify for the GMC Rangeland Derby’s
winner–take–all final in the same year and it happened all three years Kirk made it into the final.
Colt Cosgrave

Birth Date: November 4, 1978
Residence: Hand Hills, Alberta
Colt had his best career Calgary Stampede GMC Rangeland
Derby in 2012 placing sixth overall, qualifying for “Semi Final
Saturday”, and was runner-up for the 2012 Calgary Stampede
Aggregate title. 2012 also saw Colt qualify for the winner-take-all
final at the Battle of the Rockies in Rocky Mountain House on the
WPCA GMC Pro Tour. Colt won the 2006 Red Deer Chuckwagon
Championship, had a horse named to the 2006 WPCA Equine
Outfit of Excellence, and was named WPCA Most Improved
Driver in 2010. He competed at the 2008 GMC Rangeland Derby
as a replacement driver, and drove the demonstration race at the
Calgary Stampede in 2005. Colt is the cousin of World Champion
Chuckwagon Driver Jason Glass, and the son of the late Richard
Cosgrave for whom the Calgary Stampede Aggregate Trophy is named. Colt is a fourth generation champion chuckwagon driver with twenty–eight Calgary Stampede GMC Rangeland Derby Championships, six
Calgary Stampede Aggregate Championships, and fourteen World Championships in his family’s history.
Hugh Sinclair

Birth Date: August 14, 1966
Residence: Grande Prairie, Alberta
Hugh is a four–time Calgary Stampede GMC Rangeland Derby
Champion and was the Calgary Stampede's Aggregate winner in
2000. In 2012 his horse “Ciano” was named to the Calgary
Stampede’s inaugural Equine Outfit of Excellence, and he successfully defended his title at the Battle of the Rockies. Hugh is
undefeated in the Calgary Stampede GMC Rangeland Derby's
winner–take–all championship final heat having qualified and won
four times. Hugh outrode for two Calgary Stampede GMC
Rangeland Derby Championship outfits and one Calgary
Stampede Aggregate winner. 2012 saw Hugh win the Battle of the
Rockies for the second consecutive yearand establish a new track
record there as well. He has had two horses named to the WPCA's
Equine Outfit of Excellence, was the WPCA's Top Rookie Outrider in 1982, WPCA’s Most Improved Outrider
in 1986, and received the WPCA's Most Improved Chuckwagon Outfit Award in 1998. Hugh has won eighteen major chuckwagon titles over his career including the 2008 WPCA Pro Tour Championship in
Strathmore, a record five Battle of the North championships, and holds two WPCA track records.
Vern Nolin

Birth Date: March 1, 1973
Residence: Rapid View, Saskatchewan
Vern won his second career CPCA Championship, was the
CPCA’s High Point Driver, and qualified for the GMC
Rangeland Derby’s “Semi Final Saturday” for the second
consecutive year. He was the only semi-finalist from the 2011
GMC Rangeland Derby to make the semi-final round again in
2012. Vern was co-champion of the CPCA’s Dewberry show
in 2012, and posted additional victories at the Meadow Lake
Stampede, Wainwright Stampede and CPCA Lloydminster
Finals. He has qualified for the winner–take–all final heat for
the CPCA Chuckwagon Championship five times, was the co–winner of the CPCA's Most Improved
Driver Award and received the CPCA Chuckwagon Family of the Year Award in 2004. Vern is the
younger brother of fellow driver Shane and 2012 CPCA Champion Outrider Mick Nolin.

Luke Tournier

Luke is a two–time Calgary Stampede GMC Rangeland
Derby Champion, a two–time Calgary Stampede Aggregate
winner, and won the Calgary Stampede's Safe Drive Award
for the Least Penalized Driver in 2007. He set an earnings
record at the 2007 GMC Rangeland Derby, has had a
record four horses named to the WPCA's Equine Outfit of
Excellence, holds the track record at the Ponoka
Stampede, and has collected eleven major titles since joining the WPCA back in 2003. Previously a member of the
CPCA, Luke won fourteen CPCA show championships,
twice qualified for the CPCA’s championship dash, and received the CPCA's Chuckwagon Family
of the Year in 2001. He is the older brother to former competitor Léo Tournier, father to outrider

John Walters

John placed a very impressive tenth overall in his first Calgary
Stampede GMC Rangeland Derby in 2012. He won the
Herman Flad Memorial Award for the WPCA Most Improved
Driver in 2011. 2012 also saw John qualified for his first winner-take-all final at the Ponoka Stampede, had a career best
runner-up finish at the Bonnyville Chuckwagon
Championship, and placed a career best fifth in the World

Jamie had his best year to date in 2012 winning the first
show championship of his career at the Oil & Ag CPCA
Turtleford Derby, qualifying for the winner-take-all final for

his second career GMC Rangeland Derby, Jamie ran
penalty free and narrowly missed qualifying for the Calgary

Wayne Knight

Codey McCurrach

Memorial Award for Top Rookie Driver, received the
WPCA’s prestigious Chuckwagon Person of the Year, and

Derby, ran all ten days penalty free, and closed his rookie
year with a fourth place run on night ten - his best run of the
show. Codey was the WPCA’s Top Rookie Driver in 2007,

sportsmanlike driver at the Battle of the North the same
year. A third generation driver, Codey drove his first chariot race at age 10, started driving pony

Tim Haroldson

Tim had his most successful Calgary Stampede to date running all ten days penalty free and qualifying for the GMC
Rangeland Derby’s “Semi Final Saturday”. 2012 also saw Tim
qualify for his second career winner–take–all championship
final in a major event at the Ponoka Stampede where he was
runner-up for the championship. He qualified for his first winner–take–all final at a major chuckwagon event in 2011 at the
Capital Ex Chuckwagon Derby in Edmonton and was runner
up as well. Tim is a two–time champion of the Colonial Days
Fair in Lloydminster, and won additional show championships
during his time on the CPCA circuit at the Wainwright
Stampede in 2003 and 2007 and the CPCA Lloydminster
Finals in 2005. Tim started his career with the CPCA and was the recipient of CPCA Award for
Excellence in Corporate Involvement in 2000 and has won many CPCA show awards for Best
Dressed Chuckwagon. He was scheduled to compete at the Calgary Stampede GMC Rangeland

prestigious WPCA Chuckwagon Person of the Year Award,
and had a horse named to the WPCA's Equine Outfit of
Excellence. 2012 was Mark’s twentieth year as a chuckwagon driver, was encana’s Food Driver of the Year for the
second consecutive year, and made the semi-final round at
the Ponoka Stampede. Mark won the 2010 WPCA Pro
Tour Championship in Strathmore and the 2009 WPCA
Clean Drive Award. Known as the “High Tech Redneck,” Mark pioneered the use of Global
Positioning System (GPS) technology as a tool for chuckwagon training, and along with his father
Kelly, were the feature of a local television series entitled “Heat of the Moment” in fall of 2012.

the overall champion. As a rookie at the Calgary Stampede
in 2012, B.J. cracked the top ten twice on nights three and
six. He drove two wagons on the CPCA circuit in 2012 and
placed inside the top ten overall at eight shows. B.J. won
his first show championship at the Colonial Days Fair in

Pine First Nation, Frog Lake First Nation at Dewberry, and the
CPCA Prairie Racing Series. Ray has twice won the CPCA

Brian Laboucane

Layne Bremner

Layne won the Calgary Stampede's Orville Strandquist
Award for Top Rookie Driver in 2011 and was the CPCA’s
High Point Rookie Driver in 2009. 2012 saw Layne win one
day money at the CPCA Lloydminster Finals and place in
the top ten overall at five CPCA show championships. He
started racing pony wagons at fifteen years old with the
North West Saskatchewan Pony Chuckwagon and Chariot
Association, winning the overall championship three times.
Layne is a third generation chuckwagon competitor whose
mother, Mae Gorst, was the first full-time female outrider. Layne is also the nephew and cousin
of fellow drivers Gary Gorst and Logan Gorst.
Jordie Fike

Residence: Cremona, Alberta
Jordie won the 2010 WPCA Top Rookie Driver Award and
became just the fourth driver in WPCA history to qualify for
the Calgary Stampede Rangeland Derby in his rookie year.
He drove the demonstration race at the 2012 Calgary
Stampede GMC Rangeland Derby and was runner-up for
the 2012 Strathmore Heritage Days Stampede. Jordie
spent his first two years as a driver on the CPCA circuit
where he won the Saskatoon Exhibition Derby and the
CPCA Most Improved Driver award in 2009, and received
the CPCA’s Most Sportsmanlike Driver award in 2008.
Jordie is a fourth generation wagon man and the grandson of former GMC Rangeland Derby

was a two–time champion of the WPCA Pro Tour
Championship, was the 1987 WPCA Top Rookie Driver, and
had 2 horses named to the WPCA’s Equine Outfit of
Excellence. In 2008 he moved to the CPCA and won the 2008
CPCA Championship, was the CPCA’s High Point Driver in
2009 and along with his family, received the CPCA Chuckwagon Family of the Year Award. The 2010
Calgary Stampede GMC Rangeland Derby was to be Neal’s last competition as a chuckwagon driver, but he was brought out ouf retirement in 2012 as a replacement for injured driver for Ross Knight.

his third year on the WPCA Pro Tour, Evan won the first

the world standings. His right wheeler “D.J.” was named to

North American Chuckwagon Championship finishing second to Kelly Sutherland. Evan started his career in 2008 with the amateur Western Chuckwagon

WCA championship, and was named the WCA’s Most Improved Driver. Evan is a second generation driver whose cousin Rod Salmond drove for many years at the GMC Rangeland Derby.
Mitch Sutherland
