Kelly won a record twelfth Calgary Stampede GMC
Rangeland Derby, twelfth World Chuckwagon Championship,
a record third WPCA Dodge Pro Tour Championship, the
Strathmore Heritage Days Stampede, a record eighth
Ponoka Stampede, and for a record fourth time had a horse
named to the WPCA's Equine Outfit of Excellence all in 2011.
He has won a record six Calgary Stampede Aggregate titles
and has made a record twenty trips to the GMC Rangeland
Derby's winner–take–all championship final heat. He
received the Calgary Stampede's Mullen Group Safe Drive
Award for the Least Penalized Driver in 2002, and outrode for
Ralph Vigen’s 1972 Calgary Stampede GMC Rangeland Derby Championship outfit. Kelly has twice
won the Cheyenne Frontier Days Championship and was named the WPCA's Chuckwagon Person
of the Year in 1994. He hosted the royal couple during their visit to the 2011 Calgary Stampede.
Reg Johnstone

Birth Date: July 18, 1948
Residence: Bashaw, Alberta
Reg was the Calgary Stampede Aggregate winner, won the
Calgary Stampede's Safe Drive Award for Least Penalized Driver
and made his fourth trip to the GMC Rangeland Derby’s
winner–take–all final all in 2011. He was the 2005 World Champion
Chuckwagon Driver and won the 2005 WPCA Dodge Pro Tour
Championship becoming the first chuckwagon driver to capture
both major championships in the same year. Reg has in excess of
35 major victories on his resume including three Ponoka Stampede
Championships, and has had 2 horses named to the WPCA's
Equine Outfit of Excellence. He has qualified for 28 winner–take–all
championship final heats in his career which ranks him sixth all time
among WPCA drivers. Reg is consistently one of the top performers both on and off the racetrack. He forever holds the track record for the old Calgary Stampede track, and has been a top promoter of chuckwagon
racing to the many fans attending the Calgary Stampede and WPCA Dodge Pro Tour shows.
Kurt Bensmiller

Birth Date: May 1, 1983
Residence: Dewberry, Alberta
Kurt qualified for the Calgary Stampede GMC Rangeland
Derby’s winner–take–all championship final heat, won the
Capital Ex Chuckwagon Derby in Edmonton, and set a track
record at the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede in 2011. It
is the first time that three generations of the same family have
qualified for the GMC Rangeland Derby’s winner–take–all final
joining his father Buddy Bensmiller and grandfather’s Allen
Smith and Alan Bensmiller who were all multi–time finalists.
Kurt won the Calgary Stampede's Orville Strandquist Award
for Top Rookie Driver in 2002, and won the Battle of the North
Championship in Dawson Creek, B.C. in 2007. Kurt won the
WPCA Clean Drive Award in 2007 and was the recipient of the WPCA's Most Improved Chuckwagon
Outfit Award in 2001. Kurt is the youngest man in WPCA history to qualify two wagons into a single
winner–take–all championship final heat at the 2002 Battle of the North in Dawson Creek, B.C.

Jerry is a three–time World Champion Chuckwagon Driver,
the 1993 Calgary Stampede GMC Rangeland Derby
Champion, is co–holder of the Calgary Stampede track
record, and outrode for three GMC Rangeland Derby
Championship outfits. In 2011 he won his third career North
American Chuckwagon Championship, for the fourth time
had a horse named to the WPCA Equine Outfit of
Excellence, and made his seventh career trip to the GMC
Rangeland Derby’s winner–take–all championship final
heat. Jerry won the 2006 WPCA Dodge Pro Tour
Championship, is a two–time champion of the Ponoka
Stampede, won the WPCA Clean Drive Award in 2003, was the WPCA's Top Rookie Driver in
1984, won the WPCA's Most Improved Chuckwagon Outfit in 1987, and was the 1986 World
Champion Outrider.

Rick won two major show championships in 2011 at the
Grande Prairie Stompede and the Battle of the North to
bring his total number of wins in major chuckwagon events
over his career to 15. He set a track record at the Grande
Prairie Stompede and qualified for the GMC Rangeland
Derby’s semi–final round as well. He was the 2004 World
Champion Chuckwagon Driver, received the Calgary
Stampede's prestigious Guy Weadick Award in 2005, the
Calgary Stampede's Orville Strandquist Award for top rookie driver in 1999, and has qualified for the GMC Rangeland
Derby winner–take–all final three times. He outrode for 6
Calgary Stampede GMC Rangeland Derby Championship outfits and 4 Calgary Stampede
Aggregate Winners, received the WPCA Showmanship Award for professionalism in 2001 and
was the WPCA's Top Rookie Driver in 1982.
Wayne Knight

Birth Date: June 5, 1957
Residence: St. Walburg, Saskatchewan
Wayne qualified for the GMC Rangeland Derby's
winner–take–all championship final heat in 1998 and had
his best career Calgary Stampede GMC Rangeland Derby
in 2011 placing 6th overall. He is a two–time CPCA
Champion Driver and a two–time CPCA High Point Driver.
2011 saw Wayne win the Wainwright Stampede and qualify for winner–take–all final for the CPCA Prairie Racing
series both for the second consecutive year. He has been
a finalist for the CPCA Championship six times, was the
CPCA’s High Point Rookie Driver in 1984, has twice
received the CPCA’s Most Improved Driver Award and won the CPCA award for Excellence in
Corporate Involvement in 2003. Wayne has won twenty CPCA show championships over his
career, and is the holder of five CPCA track records.
Vern Nolin

Birth Date: March 1, 1973
Residence: Rapid View, Saskatchewan
Vern had his best career Calgary Stampede GMC
Rangeland Derby in 2011 placing 7th overall and qualifying
for the Rangeland Derby’s “Semi Final Saturday” for the
first time. He was the 2009 CPCA Champion driver, has
won six career CPCA show championships, and has qualified for the winner–take–all final heat for the CPCA
Chuckwagon Championship four times. Vern was one of
just three drivers to race penalty free for all ten days at the
Calgary Stampede GMC Rangeland Derby in 2007, was
the co–winner of the CPCA's Most Improved Driver Award and received the CPCA Chuckwagon
Family of the Year Award in 2004. He is the younger brother of fellow competitor Shane Nolin.
Kirk Sutherland

Birth Date: September 9, 1956
Residence: Grande Prairie, Alberta
Kirk has qualified for the GMC Rangeland Derby’s
winner–take–all final three times. All three years have been
along side his brother Kelly, where they are the only brother
combination to qualify for the Calgary Stampede’s
winner–take–all final in the same year. Kirk set a track record at
the Dewberry World Chuckwagon Races in 2011, has won six
major show championships over his career, and was the WPCA
Most Improved Outfit award winner in 1984. 2011 also saw Kirk
qualify for the winner–take–all championship final heat at the
Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede, the Ponoka Stampede,
and the WPCA Dodge Pro Tour Championship. He was joined
by his brother Kelly and nephew Mark in Ponoka’s final – the first time in history three members from the
same family have qualified for a winner–take–all final in a major chuckwagon event. Kirk’s last win at the
2006 Battle of the North came thirty years after he won his first ever show championship there in 1976.

Luke Tournier

Luke is a two–time Calgary Stampede GMC Rangeland
Derby Champion, a two–time Calgary Stampede Aggregate
winner, and won the Calgary Stampede's Safe Drive Award

four horses named to the WPCA's Equine Outfit of
Excellence, and holds the track record at the Ponoka
Stampede. Since joining the WPCA back in 2003, Luke has
collected eleven major titles including two North American

George Normand Lifetime Builder’s award in 2011 and will run his
last race at the 100th Calgary Stampede in 2012. He received the
Calgary Stampede's prestigious Guy Weadick Award in 1994,
won two Calgary Stampede Mullen Group Safe Drive Awards for
the Least Penalized Driver, and outrode for the 1981 Calgary
Stampede GMC Rangeland Derby Championship outfit. Buddy
has won a record five WPCA Clean Drive Award and had a horse named to the WPCA’s Equine Outfit of
Excellence in 2010. He won the Cheyenne Frontier Days a record nine times and became just the second
Canadian chuckwagon driver to be inducted into the Cheyenne Frontier Days Hall of Fame in 2009.

Tim qualified for his first winner–take–all final at a major
chuckwagon event in 2011 at the Capital Ex Chuckwagon
Derby in Edmonton and finished a career best 15th in the
World Standings. He is a two–time champion of the
Colonial Days Fair in Lloydminster, and won additional
show championships during his time on the CPCA circuit at
the Wainwright Stampede in 2003 and 2007 and the CPCA
Lloydminster Finals in 2005. Tim started his career with the
CPCA and was the recipient of CPCA Award for Excellence
in Corporate Involvement in 2000 and has won many
CPCA show awards for Best Dressed Chuckwagon. He was scheduled to compete at the Calgary
Stampede GMC Rangeland Derby for the first time in 2004, until a pre–show injury prevented him
from driving that year.

Troy received the WPCA Showmanship Award for
Professionalism in 2003 and has qualified for two career

day monies which was fourth best among WPCA drivers.
He won the DC Energy Services Clean Drive Award at the
2006 Red Deer Chuckwagon Championship, and the UFA
Community Ambassador Award at the 2004 Rocky
Mountain Turf Club Derby in Lethbridge. Troy Flad is a second generation driver from one of the famous families in chuckwagon racing. He is the son of the

2012 will be Codey’s first appearance at the Calgary
Stampede GMC Rangeland Derby and he will be one of
four rookie drivers competing for the Calgary Stampede's

Kenn Borek Memorial Award for most sportsmanlike driver
at the Battle of the North the same year. He placed a career
