consecutive year at the GMC Rangeland
Derby, he is the reigning Champion
and Aggregate winner. Jason has seven
qualifications for the final four. Right
leader “Tycoon” was named to the Calgary
Stampede’s Equine Outfit of Excellence
for the second year in a row. He has had a horse named to the WPCA’s Equine
Outfit of Excellence five times. Jason won his fourth career World Chuckwagon
Championship in 2012 following in the wagon tracks of his father Tom Glass,
grandfather Ronnie Glass, and great-grandfather Tom Lauder. This fourth
generation dynasty boasts some of the greatest names in the sport has ever known.
Kirk Sutherland

Birth Date: September 9, 1956
Residence: Grande Prairie, Alberta
Kirk is the 2013 reigning GMC Rangeland
Derby safety award winner. He has
qualified for the GMC Rangeland
Derby’s final four four times, and his
horse “Colonel” was named to the 2013
Calgary Stampede’s Equine Outfit of
Excellence. Kirk is also the Bonnyville Chuckwagon Champion of 2013, his
second consecutive title. He was runner up in the 2013 World Chuckwagon
Championship. He won three day monies at the 2012 GMC Rangeland Derby
which was the start of an incredible streak of eight consecutive day monies by
the same four horses.
Jerry Bremner

In 2013 Jerry qualified for the final four
championship of the Calgary Stampede
GMC Rangeland Derby, for the eighth
time. He placed in the top ten six times
over the 2013 GMC Rangeland Derby. He
won day money one run at the Battle of the
North. He is a co–holder of the old Calgary Stampede 5/8 track record. Jerry is
a three–time World Champion Chuckwagon Driver and has had four horses
named to the WPCA Equine Outfit of Excellence. Jerry and his wife Donna have
two children Shane and Jaycee and he is an avid golfer and likes to travel.

Award for Top Rookie Driver and he had
a horse named to the Calgary Stampede’s
Equine Outfit of Excellence. 2012 saw
Chanse win the WPCA Top Rookie Driver award, have a horse named to the
WPCA’s Equine Outfit of Excellence, and become just the fifth driver in WPCA
history to qualify for the Calgary Stampede GMC Rangeland Derby in his rookie
year. Chanse is a third generation driver whose father is four-time World
Champion Outrider and current driver Mike Vigen, and his grandfather was
five-time World and three-time Calgary Stampede Champion chuckwagon
legend Ralph Vigen.

2014 will be Kurt’s thirteenth consecutive
year at the GMC Rangeland Derby. In 2013
he made it into “Semi Final Saturday”. His
horse “ACE” was named the champion
Left Leader of the WPCA Equine Outfit of
Excellence for 2013. In 2012 he won the
Strathmore Heritage Days Stampede and qualified for the winner-take-all final
at the Grande Prairie Stompede. In 2011 he qualified for the Calgary Stampede
GMC Rangeland Derby’s final four for the championship. Kurt holds the track
record at the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede. Kurt is the son of long time
driver Buddy Bensmiller.

Jamie Laboucane

Residence: St. Walburg, Saskatchewan
In 2013 Jamie qualified for the GMC
Rangeland Derby but due to an injury
couldn’t continue to drive through the meet
and the reins were takeover by Doug Irvine.
The combination of Jamie’s team and
Doug’s driving the outfit qualified for “Semi
Final Saturday”. Jamie had his best year in
2012 winning the first show championship of his career at the Oil & Ag CPCA
Turtleford Derby. Also in 2012 in just his second GMC Rangeland Derby, Jamie ran
penalty free and narrowly missed qualifying for the Calgary Stampede’s “Semi
Final Saturday”, ending up in sixth/seventh place overall. He holds the CPCA
track record at North Battleford. Jamie is the son of driver Brian Laboucane, and
brother–in–law to fellow driver BJ Carey and outrider Mick Nolin.
Gary Gorst

In 2013 Gary qualified for the GMC
Rangeland Derby’s “Semi Final Saturday”
and had a horse named to the Calgary
Stampede’s Equine Outfit of Excellence
for the second year in a row. He won top
day money one run at the Medicine Hat
Exhibition & Stampede. In 2012 he qualified for his first GMC Rangeland Derby
final four. Gary joined the WPCA Pro Tour in 2012 qualifying for the winner–
take–all championship final in his first show, the Grande Prairie Stompede.
Gary is a second generation wagon man whose father Art Gorst competed at
the Stampede in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s. Gary is the father of fellow
driver Logan Gorst and champion outrider Dustin Gorst.
Chad Harden

2014 will be Chad’s fourteenth consecutive
year at the GMC Rangeland Derby. He won
day money one run at the Battle of the
North and Rocky Mountain House in 2013.
Chad earned the 2009 Calgary Stampede
GMC Rangeland Derby Champion title. In
2011 he again qualified for the GMC Rangeland Derby’s “Semi Final Saturday”.
He has won additional major show championships at the Ponoka Stampede,
Bonnyville Chuckwagon Championship and Edmonton’s Chuckwagon Derby.
Chad was the first chuckwagon driver to win the WPCA and Calgary Stampede
top rookie honors in a single year.

Doug Irvine

Residence: LaCorey, Alberta
At the 2013 GMC Rangeland Derby Doug did
double duty driving his own wagon along
with one for injured Jamie Laboucane. Doug
qualified both wagons for the 2014 Calgary
Stampede. Also in 2013 he won day money
one day at the Grande Prairie Stampede. In
2012 Doug had his most successful Calgary
Stampede qualifying for his first GMC Rangeland Derby final four, finishing
second by a mere one one-hundredth of a second, this was the closest final four
in Calgary Stampede history. He won his first Calgary Stampede day money on
day four of the 2012 GMC Rangeland Derby, and ran penalty free all ten days.
He was runner–up to the Dewberry World Chuckwagon Races and the North
American Chuckwagon Championship in 2011.
Tim Haroldson

Birth Date: April 12, 1966
Residence: Melfort, Saskatchewan
Tim placed in the top five two times over the
2013 GMC Rangeland Derby. Tim qualified
to run at the 2014 GMC Rangeland derby
through the 2013 Stampede aggregate
standings. Tim had his most successful
Calgary Stampede in 2012 running all ten
days penalty free and qualifying for the GMC Rangeland Derby’s “Semi Final
Saturday”. He also qualified for the winner–take–all championship final at the
Ponoka Stampede in 2012.
Vern Nolin

Derby “Semi Final Saturday” in 2012. Vern was co-champion of the CPCA’s
Dewberry show in 2012. He has qualified for the winner–take–all final heat for
the CPCA Chuckwagon Championship five times. Vern is the younger brother

Troy placed in the top ten four times over
the 2013 GMC Rangeland Derby. 2012 was
a great year for Troy winning the GMC
Rangeland Derby, Calgary Stampede
Aggregate and the Ponoka Stampede. He
has qualified for the Calgary Stampede
GMC Rangeland Derby’s winner–take–all championship final heat three
times. He won the WPCA Clean Drive Award in 2011. Troy is a third generation
chuckwagon driver with one of the most famous last names in professional
chuckwagon racing. He has placed inside the top ten in the World Standings
seven of the past eight years including the past six years consecutively.
Mark Sutherland

Birth Date: February 24, 1971
Residence: Okotoks, Alberta
Mark made a late season push in 2013 and
placed 4th overall at Dawson Creek. 2012
was Mark’s twentieth year as a chuckwagon
driver, and he was named EnCana’s
Food Driver of the Year for the second
consecutive year. Mark qualified for the
semi-final round at the 2012 Ponoka
Stampede. He is a two–time winner of the Calgary Stampede’s Safe Drive
Award for least penalized driver. In 2011 he received the prestigious WPCA
Chuckwagon Person of the Year Award, and had a horse named to the WPCA’s
Equine Outfit of Excellence. Mark along with his father Kelly, were the feature
of a local television series entitled “Heat of the Moment” in fall of 2012.
Colt Cosgrave

Birth Date: November 4, 1978
Residence: Craigmyle, Alberta
Colt placed in the top ten three times over
the 2013 GMC Rangeland Derby. In 2012
Colt qualified for “Semi Final Saturday”,
and was runner-up for the Calgary
Stampede Aggregate title. He also qualified
for the winner-take-all final at the Battle
of the Rockies in Rocky Mountain House on the WPCA GMC Pro Tour. He
was named WPCA Most Improved Driver in 2010. Colt is the cousin of Driver
Jason Glass, and the son of the late Richard Cosgrave for whom the Calgary
Stampede Aggregate Trophy is named. Colt is a fourth generation champion
chuckwagon driver.

Reg had his outriding horse Pamjet named
to the Calgary Stampede’s Equine Outfit
of Excellence in 2013. He won the Calgary
Stampede Aggregate title and the Calgary
Stampede’s Safe Drive Award in 2011. Reg
has numerous show championships over
his career and in 2005 won the World title. He has made four trips to the GMC
Rangeland Derby’s final four, and forever shares the track record for the old
5/8’s Calgary Stampede track with Jerry Bremner. This veteran driver will be
making his 33rd and final appearance at the 2014 GMC Rangeland Derby.
Barry Hodgson

Birth Date: March 9, 1961
Residence: Wetaskiwin, Alberta
Barry placed in the top ten two times over
the 2013 GMC Rangeland Derby. Barry
qualified to run at the 2014 GMC Rangeland
derby through the Calgary Stampede 2013
aggregate standings. In an impressive 2012
driving season he won the WPCA Clean
Drive Award for taking just a single penalty second all season long. That year he
won the Colonial Days Fair in Lloydminster for the second time in his career,
and tied his career best in the World Standings placing 18th overall. He has
qualified for five career sudden death championship final heats.
Brian Laboucane

Birth Date: February 27, 1949

2013 Brian won the CPCA Astec Safety
Safe Driver Award and was the Onion
Lake Champion. 2010 saw Brian qualified
for “Semi Final Saturday” at the Calgary
Stampede. He is a six–time CPCA Champion
Driver and a three–time CPCA High Point
Driver. He has qualified for the winner–
take–all championship final heat for the CPCA championship a record eight
times, has won close to eighty show championships on the CPCA circuit over his
career, and holds two CPCA track records. Brian is the father of fellow driver
Jamie Laboucane, and father–in–law to driver BJ Carey, and Outrider Mick Nolin.
Brian is making his 36th and final GMC Rangeland Derby appearance in 2014.

Rangeland Derby. In 2012 Kris won the
CPCA Most Improved Driver award. In
2011 he won the CPCA Rookie Driver Award
and Family of the Year Award. Kris’s father
Glen was a pony chuckwagon driver. Kris started driving pony chariots at
the age of 14 and by the age of 16 he was driving a chuckwagon and has been
hooked ever since. Kris is a lead operator for Talisman Energy Inc. Kris enjoys
watching his son Kaeden play hockey and watch his wife Wendy and daughter
Blake compete in barrel racing.
