Bericht des Präsidenten
Unser Osterbuffet war
wieder ausgezeichnet
mit beiden Sitzungen
ausverkauft. Ein Kompliment unserer Geschäftsführung, Peter
Pijet, Ruth Rajna und
unserem Chef Andreas
mit seinem Küchenpersonal.
Meine Frau Katharina
und ich möchten uns nochmals für die
Einladung zum diesjährigen Bockbierfest
mit der Krönung unserer Miss Concordia
2013 bei der Frauengruppe bedanken. Zu
dieser Veranstaltung war unsere Halle
beinahe ausverkauft. Das Miss Concordia
3
Komitee hatte es bestimmt nicht leicht, die
Entscheidung zu treffen, welche von den 3
jungen Damen, die sich zur Wahl stellten,
Miss Concordia für das Jahr 2013 sein wird.
Wir gratulieren Hannah Trautrim zur Miss
Concordia 2013.
bringt.
to our Chef Andreas along with his kitchen
personnel. Thank you.
My wife Kathi and I would like to thank the
Ladies group for their invitation to
Bockbierfest with the crowning of our Miss
Concordia 2013. It must have been hard for
the Miss Concordia Committee to choose
one winner out of the three contestants. We
congratulate Miss Hannah Trautrim as our
Miss Concordia 2013. I hope you have lots
of fun and make many new friends.
The Farm cleanup was well attended with
over 90 helpers. Thank you very much to all
those who came out. The weather for the
Club cleanup on May 4th was exceptionally
nice this year and we got a lot of extra work
done.
Dann möchte ich noch erwähnen, am 8. Juni
ist Campers Picnic & Soccer Tournament auf
der Farm und am 9. Juni Campers Semi –
Annual Meeting.
Am 16. Juni ist Vatertag in der Schenke und
am 29. Juni – Canada Day Picnic, Volley
President’s Report
The Easter Buffet at our Club was outstanding again this year with a lot of great food to
choose from and it was also nicely displayed. I received many compliments from
our guests and would like to pass them on to
our management, Peter and Ruth, as well as
4
In early May the Kitchener Fire Department
sent us a Notice to tell us that one of our
members complained about the temporary
stored chairs and tables in the hallway by
the washrooms. We know the Fire Escape
Route must be clear at all times. Therefore
we have until the end of May to comply or
else we will face charges and possible closure of our Club. At the time when our Club
was built, the rules from the Fire
Department were not as strictly enforced
and the Building Committee did not provide
any storage space. In order to comply with
the current standards, the Board decided to
clear the area behind the Jägerstube and
place two containers to store tables and
chairs currently not in use. I would like to
extend a big thanks to Peter Trautrim with
his equipment and Andrew Sauer for their
dedication and hard work to clear the area
for the containers during the Club cleanup
on May 4th.
5
On Sunday May 5th, the Choirs held their
Spring Concert. They had a good turnout.
The Children’s Choir performance was
again very good and brought smiles to many
faces. Thanks Angelika.
Reminders:
On June 8th is the Campers Picnic and
Soccer Tournament on the Farm.
On June 9th is the Campers Semi
Annual Meeting.
On June 16th is Fathers Day in the
Schenke and on the Farm.
On June 29th is the Canada Day Picnic
on the Farm.
I wish you a sunny and warm start to your
summer,
Your President, Karl Braun
From the Manager’s Desk
to keep everyone coming back again and
again!
I would like to take this opportunity to
thank all of the Board of Directors, the members that I have had an opportunity to speak
with, as well as all the staff that have been
so very supportive and encouraging during
my month of transitioning from Banquet
Manager to General Manager! Thank you!
We look forward to another successful year.
Club Clean Up
We had our club clean up on a beautiful
sunny Saturday morning in May. It was
wonderful to see so many members here to
help keep our property looking so nice in
anticipation of a great summer!
In addition to our general clean up this year
we had the added task of making some
changes to some of our garden to allow for
additional storage. Everyone came together
to make this happen so quickly! Thank you
to all that were involved.

Ladies Group
At our last meeting in May we had a craft
night, as we made cards with the help of
Ursula Dressler and Maria Grupp. We thank
you both for all your work in preparation for
the evening and for your patience with us.
We would like to give our condolences to
the Gwinner family on the passing of
Elisabeth Gwinner. She was a long time
member of the Ladies Group as well as a
past president of the group. The Ladies
Group will miss her contributions and spirit.
Our next meeting is on Wednesday, 5. June
at 7:00 pm. At this meeting we hope to have
a presentation on Africa by Else Osbelt’s
granddaughter. We hope that you can all
make it or give us a call if you can’t.
Don’t forget that we have our trip on
Wednesday, 17. July. Please make sure that
you are at the Concordia Club no later than
9:30 a.m.
We hope that you all have a wonderful and
relaxing summer.

Zuhause. Jetzt sind wir in der Jägerstube
und treffen uns jeden ersten Mittwoch im
Monat von 14.30 Uhr bis 17.00 Uhr. Unser
Picknick ist am Mittwoch, dem 19. Juni von
11.00 bis 5.00 pm auf der Farm. Am 5. Juni
wird dann noch weiteres bekannt gegeben,
so kommt bitte alle zum Treffen. Von Ursula
erhielten wir Postkartengrüsse von Ihrer
Reise durch die Staaten. Sie plant auch am
Picknick teilzunehmen. Joachim gab uns
Anna Liebel recht herzlich.

stand Stefan Babic ohne Spielverlust bereits

finished within the anticipated time frame.
We thank John and Scott for their excellent

vorbereitet.
Also denkt bitte daran, einen Preis

between the participants.
Congratulations to our winners but also to
all who participated and made it an exciting
tournament.

Campers
Greetings from The Farm!
Thanks goes out to the 93 who helped with
Farm Cleanup on April 28th, we accomplished a lot!
The Campers Committee has been busy over
the past few months, planning events, and
some upgrades to the Farm. You’ll notice a
slightly larger fenced in area at the Pavilion,
which will now accommodate bocce games,
and some of the Farm Olympics. The fencing is now illuminated with some solar
lights, making it much more attractive, and
also more visible at night.
We are also planning to rehabilitate the
horseshoe pits, which will be done early in
the camping season.
The pond is also looking great, but a second
fountain would help with keeping the water
fresh, and minimize the algae. We are shopping for an additional fountain, that will be
installed this year.
Our first picnic of the year, which is our
“Spring Picnic and Soccer Tournament”
will be held on June 8th, and will feature
“Seven Castles”, the award winning band
from Hubertushaus. Information on the soccer tournament is on our poster in the
Nachrichten.
We will be having an expanded “Canada
Day Weekend” celebration, and hope everyone will join us for at least one of the days!
On Friday June 28th, there is the usual
Friday night Dinner special from 5-7pm, followed by a Karaoke night at the pavilion.
The bar will be open at 5pm.
17
Saturday June 29th will be our Volleyball
Tournament in the afternoon, followed by
dancing to “The Golden Keys”, and our
spectacular fireworks display after dark.
The bar will open at 11am on Saturday.
On Sunday June 30th, we will be holding
our “Farm Olympics” If you've never taken
part, it's a fun afternoon, with games suitable for pre teens up to seniors. We keep the
exact games secret, so that nobody can practice. The bar will be open from 1pm through
the dinner hour.
Overnight camping is always available, contact [email protected] for more
information.
Looking forward to seeing everyone at the
Farm!

wieder umweltfreundlich. Bitte nicht eure
Teller und Besteck vergessen! Chormitglieder bezahlen nicht, Es kostet $12.50 für alle
Gäste.
Wir hatten unser Fruehlingskonzert. Schon
singt zwei Lieder: The Sonnet und The
Greatest of These is Love. Der Ort ist die
Community Christian Reformed Church an
der Bleams Strasse und Fischer-Hallman
Strasse.
sie will. Der Rudy darf auch mitsingen!
Unsere letzte Chorprobe und auch unser
Goulaschabend wird am Montag, 10. Juni

CONCORDIA CHOIR
As you have heard, we have lost some dear
choir friends. Guenther Gawantka, Danuta’s
husband, passed away after an illness. He
was a dear friend of many in the choir and
it is always sad to report such news. May
Danuta know that we continue to think of
her.
Liz Rowsell’s mother also passed away. Our
condolences to Liz also.
We just performed our Spring Concert. It
has turned into a beautiful Spring so far,
even though we aren’t down in Mexico to
see the Sierra Madre del Sur.
Our last choir practice and also our
Goulaschabend will be on Monday, June 10.
This year it will be at the Home on The
Range at the Concordia Farm. This is the
road on the right side when one drives over
the bridge. We are ‘Going Green’ again
meaning not to forget your plates and cutlery! Choir members do not pay but it is
$12.50 for any guests.
Ulrike and Rudy are getting married on
Saturday June 29, 2013! The Mixed Choir
will be singing at 1pm. We will be singing
The Sonnet and The Greatest of These is
Love. It will be at the Community Christian
Reformed Church at Bleams Road and
Fischer-Hallman. I don’t think Uli will be
19
singing with us, at least not on the stage.
She is welcome to join but it might not look
right! Rudy is welcome to join us too!

Our Home on the Range cleanup on April
27th was a success, the building and
grounds are ready for another season of fun!
With the “new” chairs, the place has never
looked better.
We extend a warm welcome to everyone to
join us for our annual Father’s Day celebration at Home on the Range. We will start
breakfast on Sunday June 16th at 9 am, with
our famous BBQ lunch around noon and the
bar will open at 11 a.m. Since we have a tent
for the ‘chefs’ and covered picnic tables as
well as the HOTR building, we will serve
rain or shine! Bring Dad and the whole family and come out to join us for food, music,
fresh air and games for both the young and
the young-at-heart.
Our Annual Meeting and Corn Roast will
take place at the Home on the Range on
Sunday August 25th, so mark your calendars - it’ll be here before you know it.

Greetings to all members and friends!!
As the summer is upon us we are already
thinking about our 2013/2014 Season. Especially the Opening of Mardi Gras/Karneval
on November 16th!!! So keep that date open
on your Calendar! March 1, 2014 will be the
date for our annual Maskenball. I know it’s
a long way off but it is another fun event to
look forward to.
We appreciated everyone’s enthusiasm and
support including members and participants throughout this past Mardi Gras/Karneval Season and look forward to seeing
you again in November for our 2013-2014
Opening. Be safe and enjoy the summer!
Until next time… Helau und Alaaf

Garden Group
Our trip to Colour Paradise with a tour of
this local nursery for plants and ideas on
May 8th was well attended. The new perennials and annuals are always exciting to see
and our guides were very knowledgeable
and helpful. It was a bit early to buy our
hanging baskets but many of us planned to
come back and buy some interesting new
products. We have been invited in June to
come out and enjoy the gardens of Annegret
and Fred Kau. This will take place in mid
June to give our gardens some time to bloom
after a late start to spring. Edith will let
members know the time, etc. as we get closer to June. Thank you to Fred and Annegret
for their hospitality.
Meanwhile, enjoy your plants and gardens
over spring and summer. The next events
will be in September.

Farm Director’s Report 2013
Camping season opening:
My second season as Farm Director has
started with the annual Farm clean-up on
Sunday, April 28, 2013. Again, it turned out
as a big success with 93 participants. It was
a great plessure to see everybody making
our campground a safe and nice place again.
Due to the heavy ice storm in early April we
had a great deal of tree damage to clean up.
But so far, only one trailer was hit and damaged by a fallen tree.
Water supply and „Grey water disposal“of
the individual camp sites:
The Board and the Farm Committee are still
working on this issue with the MOE. Unfortunately, the Ministry of Environment
has not yet reconsidered their disapproval
of these services. We are still in negotiation
with the MOE’s Guelph District Office. But
at present time we have no services to the
sites!
Until next time,
Eckhard Michalski,
Farm Director
On behalf of the Farm Committee I want to
thank everyone for their help.
We recognize and appreciate the Camper’s
and Outdoor Group’s dedication and effort
in bringing in countless hours of voluntary
work. And this not just at the Spring cleanup but during the whole camping season.
Only by keeping up this commitment might
we be able to reach a balanced budget in
2013.
Pool opening:
Thanks to the major repair work in 2012,
this year our pool needs only minor repair
on some little cracks and one final paint
coat. While I am writing this report for the
June Bulletin our maintenance team is
already working on it. I am confident this
year the pool opening can certainly be
scheduled for the Camper’s Spring Picnic &
Soccer Tournament on June 08.
The new washroom building:
In order to solve last year’s water problem
we installed two additional water filters.
Hopefully they will do the job to our satisfaction.

Congratulations to Hannah Trautrim on
becoming our new Miss Concordia! We
know you will do a fantastic job representing our Club and connecting with the other
German Clubs. This connection is so important for our German community in K-W.
In April a few of the Treffpunkt members
enjoyed an evening out for Bockbierfest.
Thank you to the Ladies Group for such a
lovely event.
We are looking forward to our Fahrt ins
Blaue on June 22nd. Wonder where we’ll
end up this time?!
Please remember to continue donating
blood and using our Partners for Life number – CONC10846. We are almost half way
to our goal of 45 donations for the year!
