Johnstons of Elgin Royal Warrant
ROYAL WARRANT FOR JOHNSTONS OF ELGIN
Johnstons of Elgin, the largest independent producer of Scottish Woollens and Fine Cashmere products have been
granted The Royal Warrant of Appointment to The Prince of Wales with effect from 1st January 2013. Receiving this news
immediately after the annual winter mill holidays, Group Managing Director, James Dracup, announced the Appointment to
a delighted workforce this week. Commenting on the news, Mr Dracup said: “We have worked for 5 years through the good
offices of James Sugden OBE, the official Grantee, who, assisted by John Gillespie, has developed a number of very special
tweeds for His Royal Highness.
Pictured outside the famous Mill Shop in Elgin are Mr James Dracup with Mr James Sugden. Mr Sugden added:
“It is a privilege and a pleasure to work on commissions for His Royal Highness who, above all, understands and appreciates
the importance of quality in manufacture. I learnt a lot about tweed from our former chairman, Ned Harrison, and while at
times making these fabrics for the Scottish Estates can be a somewhat quixotic trade, it is nonetheless very rewarding in a
creative sense, and receiving this Grant of a Royal Warrant is of course a singular honour for the company.”
