"Our goal is to see cricket become the sport of choice for women and girls across the nation, whether as
participants or fans, and the WBBL will play a really important part in helping us realise that vision," said
Cricket Australia's Executive General Manager of Operations Mike McKenna.
"Australia has had a professional women’s competition in the Women’s National Cricket League for 19

JIGSSA (Junior Independent Girls’ Schools’ Sports Association)
Over 624 Year 5 girls from 8 IGSSA schools (Perth College, Santa Maria, PLC, MLC, Iona, St Mary’s, Penrhos & St Hilda’s) participated in a all-day carnival down at Yokine Reserve last term. The girls took part in 4 different sports- Netball, AFL, Cricket and Soccer. It was fantastic to see so many girls getting involved in each sport and having a blast!
The girls participated in a modified T20 Blast format game allowing each team to play against two different schools in
their given timeslot. It was great to see girls who haven’t played cricket before enjoying themselves and getting right
into it! The girls hit 6’ers, took some incredible catches and danced away to the music!
Thank you to all the staff that helped out on the day. Without your help it would not be possible to run such a fantastic
event. Looking forward to being involved in next year’s carnival.

South West Indoor Cricket Program
The South West Game Development team has been working hard to promote
and create an Indoor Cricket League for Females in their local area. Their
major focus was to create a program that would help transfer Indoor Cricketers into an outdoor cricket league with girls linking up to clubs in and around
Bunbury & the District Cricket Association.
With constant promotion in local high schools they were able to create a
South West Indoor Female League with more than 40+ girls from three local
high schools (Bunbury Cathedral Grammar, Bunbury Catholic College & Newton Moore High School) coming together on a Thursday evening for Indoor
Cricket matches. The program ran throughout Term 2 and will continue into
Term 3.
Each week they saw and continue to see improvement in the girl’s skills and
the standard of matches has increase with every match played. It is fantastic
to see so many girls enjoying and participating in such a great program.
Exciting times for female cricket in the South West and let’s hope these girls
can be pioneers for future generations of female cricketers in the future…..
From little things big things grow!

Girls from both Striker
Leeming & Bouncer
Indoor Centre’s having a
ball
Throughout Term 2, Striker Leeming & Bouncer both held
an Indoor Cricket Competition for U10’s, U12’s & U14’s. As
a reward for all their hard work and participation in these
competitions the WACA hosted a T20 Blast Gala Day for 80
Bouncer & Striker Leeming boys and girls.
The afternoon was a success with the kids enjoying in a T20
Blast format of cricket playing against the different centre’s.
Simon Mackin was our special guest and did a fantastic job
answering questions, signing autographs and participating
in each of the games. In total there were 5 games going
with one of those games being all girls. It was fantastic to
see the girls out there having a good time just as much as
the boys.

Girls ONLY Indoor Cricket @
Striker Leeming
During Term 2 Striker Leeming hosted a Girls ONLY
Indoor Cricket Competition which saw 10 regular girls
coming along each Tuesday afternoon. These girls
learnt many new skills and developed a better understanding and love for the game. The girls improved
out of sight and were thoroughly enjoying games each
week. It was fantastic to see them having blast and
wanting to learn and play more.
We look forward to seeing those girls being involved in
cricket this upcoming season!
