For Providence, seeds of community began to sprout 50 years ago when the
deacons of Second Christian Reformed Church of Englewood and surrounding
churches saw the needs of their aging church members. They called on faithful
men and women to work together to give people a better life as they get older.
That community of workers and dreamers
established a place where ailing seniors could
experience community as well. Our first community
— Rest Haven in Palos Heights — was a place that
offered medical care with a smile, but also mealtime
devotions, friendly conversations over coffee, and
social opportunities that people looked forward to
together. It was, and still is, a community.
Throughout 2010, as we have celebrated our
50th year of ministry, we have been reminded over
and over of God’s faithful answers to the prayers of
His people. Our community has matured through
years and seasons even as individuals have matured
through years and seasons. This Annual Report
cannot capture everything, but it offers abundant
evidence of the gracious God we serve.
And that same sense of community still extends
beyond the walls of the building in Palos Heights.
You can hear it in the passion of our caregivers, in
the laughter of our volunteers, in the prayers of our
residents and their families — at all our locations
throughout Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan.
We pray that as you page through it, you will be
moved to praise God with us for His faithful
providence!

Mr. Mulder was hired in 1958 to serve as the
Executive Director of the ministry then known as
Rest Haven Christian Services. He was instrumental
