Materials:1 skein (about 100 grams) Estelle Yarns “Sakura”
3.5mm for working in the round: DPNs, or long circular for magic loop method
Stitch markers, Small stitch holder or scrap yarn for thumb
Gauge: 20 sts and 28 rounds = 4 inches square in stockinette stitch
Glossary:
M1: Make a backwards loop and place it on the right needle.
M1R: Insert left needle, from back to front, under strand of yarn which runs between last stitch on left needle
and first stitch on right needle; knit this stitch through front loop.
M1L: Insert left needle, from front to back, under strand of yarn which runs between last stitch on left needle
and first stitch on right needle; knit this stitch through back loop.
Method:
Cuff
Cast on 24 (26, 28) sts. Distribute sts across needles as you prefer and join for working in the round, being
careful not to twist. Note or mark start of round.
Ribbing round: (K1, p1) around.
Work ribbing as set for 3 inches.
Next round, increase: (K2, m1) 11 (13, 13) times, (k1, m1) 2 (0, 2) times. 37 (39, 43) sts.
Next round, place markers for thumb increase: K18 (19, 21), place marker, k1, place marker, k to end of round.
Increase round: K to marker, slip marker, M1R, k to next marker, M1L, slip marker, k to end. 2 sts increased.
Work 2 rounds even.
Repeat the last 3 rounds 4 (5, 6) more times.
11 (13, 15) sts between markers for thumb.
Divide for thumb
Next round: K to marker, remove marker; slip the next 11 (13, 15) sts to a holder or scrap yarn; remove second
marker, cast on 1 st over gap, k to end. 37 (39, 43) sts.
Hand
Work even until hand measures 1.25 (1.5, 1.75) inches from base of thumb, or 1 inch short of desired hand
length.
Next round, decrease: (K1, k2tog) to last 4 (0, 4) sts. Size Small and Large only, k2tog twice on last 4 sts. 24
(26, 28) sts.
Work 6 rounds (k1, p1) ribbing as for cuff.
Cast off in ribbing.
Thumb
Return the 11 (13, 15) sts from the holder to the needles. With RS facing, rejoin yarn at inside base of thumb
and pick up and knit 2 (1, 2) sts in the gap, over the cast-on st for the hand. Continue across the 11 (13, 15)
held sts as follows: (k1, k2tog) to last 2 (1, 0) sts, k2 (1, 0). This is start of round. 10 (10, 12) sts. Distribute
the sts across needles as you prefer and join for working in the round.Work 6 rounds (k1, p1) ribbing as for
cuff.
Cast off in ribbing.
Finishing:
Wash and weave in ends.
