STAR SEARCH AUDITIONS:
Auditions for Alpha's annual talent show fundraiser, Star Search,
are being held after school next week on Tuesday, Wednesday and
Thursday. Sign up for an audition time on the sheet posted by the
dance studio and arrive for your audition on time! Star Search will be

English 12 and English 10 mock exams are taking place next week on Tuesday, January 13th and Wednesday,
January 14th respectively. Students who are currently enrolled in English 12 and English 10 will be writing their
mock exam in three hour time slots, either in the am or the pm, depending on when their scheduled English class
is. This means that students will be missing one class period. Students who are writing their mock exam should
be reminding you verbally that they will not be in your class. Thank you for your support.

Students registered in the AP CALCULUS course for semester 2 are asked to meet at Lunch (11:40) on
Thursday (January 15th) in Room 106 for a brief meeting. We shall discuss expectations, scheduling and
preparation work. Thank you.

Striker is Back: For any grade 11 or 12 students interested, sign ups will be on Tuesday, January 13 and
Wednesday, January 14. Sign ups will be in teams of 5 only and is $10/team. Please note there is only room for
12 teams so sign up fast.

Aboriginal Circle will be held on Wednesday, January 14. This a FULL DAY TRIP TO GROUSE MOUNTAIN .

TYE Young Entrepreneurs: Hello Alpha! Students at TYE Young Entrepreneurs know that being an entrepreneur
is all about giving back to the community. That's why we are collecting warm clothing and blankets for Covenant
House. A non-profit organization that serves as a sanctuary for troubled youth. We are looking for new or lightly
used shoes, jackets, hoodies, scarves, blankets, or any other clothing items you would like to contribute! If you
have items you would like to donate, please drop them off at Dr. Ojelel's room, number 106, or see Jayden

CAREER PREP
Vancouver Chilly Chase along the Seawall, Vancouver on Sunday, January 25th, 2015: Leukemia & Lymphoma
Society of Canada presents a Run around the seawall to raise fund for leukemia and Lymphoma. They need
volunteers to help with the race. If you are interested see Ms. Perizzolo.
Attention Grade 12s! Do you need more hours to complete your work experience? There are many volunteer
placements that are available right now to choose from and can get you started in completing your mandatory
hours. Here are some ideas:
Have you ever panned for gold? If you have not, this is your opportunity to do it. Attend the 2015 Mineral
Exploration Round up at Canada Place on January 26th. During this event, you will be able to pan for gold and
explore careers in geology, mining, engineering (math, physics), business, or environmental applications. See Ms.
Ordonez for more details.

Grade 11s, and 12s! Looking for community service hours?
Winterruption 2015: A uniquely Vancouver winter festival on Granville Island requires volunteers in many
different areas from Feb. 19th -22nd 2015. This is a great opportunity for those who are interested in hospitality,
tourism, performing arts, entertainment, event management or those who are simply looking to fulfill general
volunteer requirements. Come to the Career Centre for more information.
The 23rd annual Wellness Fair: Please some to the Career Center to sign up for voluntary opportunities to the
Wellness Fair. There are a variety of positions and times.
Kiu Do Chinese School: Heritage Language Chinese school is looking for volunteers to help in many different
projects. This opportunity runs every Saturday with two different shifts here at Alpha. Come to the Career
Centre for more information.
Artspace Children’s Arts Center: Are you a mature and reliable youth looking for a fun volunteer opportunity to
gain valuable work experience? If you are a student you is interested in working with kids and teach about visual
and performing arts come to the Career Center.
BCIT Broadcast Work Experience Opportunity (Grade 11 and 12)! Any grade 11 or 12 students interested in
acquiring work experience in the field of broadcast, please come to the Career Centre ASAP, spots fill quickly so
drop in over the next day or so!
Vancouver Aquarium Work Experience Opportunity (Grade 11 and 12)
Any grade 11 or 12 students interested in acquiring work experience in the Vancouver Aquarium should come to
the Career Centre for specific details and to sign up for this amazing opportunity.
