28 January - 19 April 2009
Discovery Museum
Staff at Discovery Museum in Newcastle
are looking for contributions to a new
exhibition, exploring gay life in the
Merchant Navy between the 1950s
and the 1980s.
Hello Sailor! is a National Museums Liverpool
touring exhibition which reveals the hidden
history of crew life in the Merchant Navy,
when being at sea was one of the few places
gay men could be themselves.
As homosexuality was illegal until 1967,
passenger ships and cargo vessels were
some of the few places where gay men could
express themselves.
The exhibition uses personal stories,
photographs and videos to reveal this littleknown aspect of the Merchant Navy’s history.
Discovery Museum is looking for anyone who
has a story to contribute – whether you were
in the Merchant Navy during this time and
have memories to share, or if you remember
the gay scene in the North East from the
1950s to the 1980s, in particular any pubs
and clubs which were popular with sailors.

New sexual health centre for
Newcastle to be open early 2009
Newcastle Primary Care Trust (PCT),
in partnership with NNT Lift Co, has
announced that it has found a city centre
site for a new multi-million pound sexual
health centre in Newcastle.
Work has already started to convert premises
at New Croft House, Market Street, near the
Laing Art Gallery and it is planned that the
new centre – to be a one stop shop for sexual
health services - will be up and running by
early 2009.
The centre will be the new base for two
services currently located on the site of
Newcastle General Hospital - the genito urinary
medicine (GUM) clinic and the contraception
and sexual health service at the Graingerville
clinic. The new service will also include the
regional chlamydia screening office currently
based at Walker, Newcastle.
Newcastle University is researching
understandings of risk in sexual health amongst
men in the North East who have sex with other
men. I am looking to interview men from all
backgrounds who are 18 or over about their
understandings of syphilis, HIV and risk in
sexual health. You do not need to have had
an infection to participate. Interviews will
be confidential and anonymous – you do not
have to give your real name. Travel expenses
will be reimbursed. This study will inform the
development of sexual health services
in the region.

reporting
homophobic
incidents
For many Christmas is a time of fun and
nights out, but it is also a time when
crime and homophobic incidents increase,
particularly in the city-centre. ARCH,
an organisation to tackle hate crime
in Newcastle, are urging anyone who
experiences any homophobic incidents to
speak up and tell us
rejected by
your family? homeless? sofa surfing?
If being lesbian, gay, bi-sexual or
trans-gendered affects where you can live,
The Outpost Housing Project can step
in to provide somewhere that is safe,
secure and supported.
Ellen came to The Outpost after falling out
with her father. He said he didn’t mind her
being gay, but wondered why she couldn’t
dress ‘normally’. This seemed to bother
other people in her village as well, as they
would shout ‘dyke and lezza’ at her and so
she moved into Newcastle city centre, with
the hope of being accepted, getting a job
and a flat. Unfortunately, with little work
experience, no money for a bond and no
support from her family, she found herself
sleeping on friends’ sofas with no hope of
being able to get a place of her own.
Ellen applied to The Outpost and got bed-sit
in town. She learned how to manage the
flat, her money and after a few attempts, she
found a job that she is happy with. When
she felt settled and confident, Outpost staff
helped her to find a place of her own. She
still rings and drops in from time to time.

Kylie Minogue is rightly regarded by
the gay community as the definitive
icon. Embodying femininity, strength,
vulnerability and undoubted talent and
all wrapped up in a pert and sexy package,
she leads hoards of gay men through the trials
and tribulations of daily life with her glamour and
heartfelt singing. But behind the Pop Princess, there
is an entire industry of musicians, fashion designers,
choreographers, managers and many more who
held keep Kylie at the top.

ICONS – Out Northeast Icons. Words - Paul Corduex | Photos by Ken McKay
Kylie’s story is one of triumph over adversity
and sheer hard work and here we will look
into her enduring appeal and uncover what
makes her the chosen icon of so many gay
men and women.
In 2008, Kylie added an OBE to her already
bulging collection of awards and accolades.
She was recognised by The Queen for her
contribution to the music industry in the
UK – her adopted home. In the same year
she turned 40, celebrated 21 years in the
music industry, 25 years of TV appearances
and had been clear of cancer for two years.
Quite a watershed year for the pop diva, yet
she shows no signs of resting up or giving
in and this is all a far cry from the Aussie
soap actress who made it big in 1988 with
I Should Be So Lucky – a song written in
no-time while the expectant Miss Minogue
waited outside the studio for the now
infamous Stock Aitken and Waterman team to
meet with her. Of course the is now infamous
in it’s own right as her first international hit
reaching Number 1 around the world.
Kylie stayed with Stock, Aitken and
Waterman records, who managed most of
the big 1980s pop acts including Banarama
and Rick Astley, until 1992 when following
the success of her fourth SAW record, she felt
she needed to grow as an artist. Reflecting in
later interviews Kylie expressed that working
with SAW records was at time restrictive and
artistically stifling.
During the early 1990s, Kylie’s career
understandably faltered with her new
musical direction. She lost the ‘bubblegum’
image of the SAW years and tried to
reconstruct herself as a sexually aware young
adult. Signing with Deconstruction records
in 1993 and subsequent collaborations with
Nick Cave on Where The Wild Roses Grow
showed a maturing and changing Kylie.
Commercially the Deconstruction years
especially the Album Impossible Princess
(re-titled Kylie Minogue in the UK)
represented her poorest UK chart
performance and her most successful
Australian chart performance since the early
days when The Loco-Motion was the highest
selling hit of the 1980s in Australia. In her
personal life, the 90s saw Kylie enter into a
widely publicised relationship with Aussie
rocker Michael Hutchence who wrote suicide
blonde about Kylie.
11
the her first Number 1 single in ten years
Spinning Around. The hits kept coming
with the album Fever spawning her biggest
commercial success to date the 2001 single
Can’t Get you Out of My Head which went
to Number 1 in 26 countries and even broke
Kylie into the mainstream American market
for the first time, where she was then
Grammy-nominated for five consecutive years
including for her work on the 2003 album
Body Language. Her film and TV career was
also reconfirmed during this renaissance,
with her roles in Moulin Rouge, Doctor Who
and comedy roles in amongst others The
Vicar of Dibley.
The late 90s saw a relationship with
Stephane Sednaoui a French photographer
which ended soon after. Musically, she
had by 1999 come into contacts with Guy
Chambers and Robbie Williams on the single
Kids which featured on Kylie’s 2000 hit
album Light Years which along with those
gold hot-pants propelled her back into the
limelight and the top spot in the charts.
Following an exhibition of her costumes in
2005 in London, Kylie returned to touring
with Showgirl: The Greatest Hits Tour, until in
Melbourne later that year she was diagnosed
with Breast Cancer, which was especially
painful because her father had himself
survived prostate cancer. With the support
of her then partner Olivier Martinez, she
battled the disease and emerged in late 2006
with the Showgirl – Homecoming Tour. Most
recently Kylie has released her tenth album
X which has received mixed reviews, though
has sold well.
Taking an entirely new musical direction,
Kylie drew inspiration from the big disco
artists of the 1970s and blew a breath of
fresh air across the UK’s dance floors with
Kylie’s story remains as varied and
interesting as ever and in her 40th year
the gay community are proud to salute our
favourite Aussie gay icon.

Thoughts for the World AIDS day
Thoughts
for this
World AIDS Day
Barry Birch, Chief Executive, Gay Advice
Darlington and Durham
The 1st December is World AIDS Day and
means different things to different people.
Some use it as a time to remember those who
have died; others as a time to celebrate the
lives of people we have know or are living
with HIV; also, others use it as an opportunity
to promote safer sex. What we all need to
know is, it’s not a competition to see who can
be the saddest, the most worthy or the most
righteous. We should respect the marvellous
variety of ways people are prepared to go to
marking this day that is now 21 years old.
More importantly it is an opportunity to
commit ourselves to ACTION.
1. Action, that challenges the bigots that
treat people living with HIV with prejudice,
discrimination and stigma.
12
12. Out NorthEast
www.outnortheast.com
2. Action, that results in finding out the facts
about HIV, then sharing that knowledge.
3. Action, on our own and our
partners sexual health.
However you are going to mark World
AIDS Day this year I hope you get out of it
what you are looking for.
Personally, I will be going GADD’s
extravaganza in Darlington on 1st December.
The theme is SAFE & SEXY and I’m torn
between wearing a Hard Hat with Easy
Access Overalls or a Hairnet & Apron. Oh
decisions, decisions! The one thing I know
is, that this is the way my friends I have
lost to AIDS loved to party. So I’m doing it
in memory of their fun packed lives I was
privileged to be part of. Also, it’s a fabulous
opportunity to have a laugh promoting safer
sex and being with friends that are both HIV
positive and negative.
Have fun, be wicked, enjoy life
and stay SAFE & SEXY.

Steve Pask – Thoughts for the World AIDS day
December 1st is World AIDS Day. Not so
long ago everyone would have known
about it. I remember when no selfrespecting newsreader, chat show host,
major or minor celebrity would have
been seen without a red ribbon for all of
November and December. Now it’s rare to
see a red ribbon anywhere at all. I wasn’t
keen on it being seen as an essential
fashion accessory, but these days I have
to admit, if I see anyone wearing one it
makes me think ‘well at least they care.’
For many people living with HIV, it’s not
the virus that makes their lives difficult, it’s
the stigma and prejudice they fear if anyone
found out. Fifty years ago, cancer was treated
a bit like that, a hundred years ago it was
leprosy, but in the 21st Century is it really
acceptable that people living with a potential
illness have to live in fear and shame? By
wearing a red ribbon, or joining in a World
AIDS event, you demonstrate to everyone that
you do not accept this kind of behaviour.
If, as I hope, you care, then you have a
chance to show it this year in the northeast.
Last year I took part in a march from the
Monument in Newcastle to the Sage in
Gateshead, followed by a fantastic event
combining musical celebration with really
emotional speeches, to mark World AIDS Day.
This year, the event will be repeated, on
Saturday 6th December starting at noon.
If you want to join in, there’s lots of ways
to do it. You can simply come along to the
Monument at noon on 6th December. You can
bring banners or placards with comments or
statements that you’d like to be seen about
HIV/AIDS. You can wear a ribbon, or dress
head to toe in red (or both!) You can come
along to the Sage at 1.00pm and listen to the
performances. If you have been affected in
any way by HIV, and would like to have a
couple of sentences read out about the way
it has affected you, you can email them to
me (in complete confidence) and they will be
read during the event.
If you can’t join in, then please take some
time on 1st December to think about the fact
that 40 million people around the world are
infected with HIV. Most of them do not have
access to the drug treatments which have
kept me going for the last twenty odd years.
Most importantly, make sure you are not part
of the prejudice against people affected by
HIV, and wear a red ribbon to let everyone
else know it.

Waist Hip Ratio
An even better measurement of risk may be
the ratio of your waist circumference (the
narrowest point on your abdomen) to your
hip circumference (the widest point).
It’s very simple to calculate your waist-hip
ratio, using a soft measuring tape such as
16
16.Out NorthEast
www.outnortheast.com
Despite many peoples obsession with
weighing themselves, surprisingly this
is perhaps the least accurate way of
indicating whether you are a healthy
weight. A set of bathroom scales takes no
account of your height, build or percentage
of muscle tissue (muscle weighs heavier
than fat). The following are more accurate
ways to check whether you are putting
your health at risk.
those used in sewing, and a basic calculator.
Body Mass Index (BMI)
The healthy weight range widely used by
doctors is based on a measurement known as
the body mass index (BMI). It is based purely
on your height and weight and whilst useful,
it gives a very general indication and in some
cases can be inaccurate. For instance, work
out the BMI for most first division footballers
and they would be classified as obese! This is
because the BMI scale makes no distinction
between muscle and fat and on it’s own is
not a good guide to who is at most risk of
obesity and cardiovascular disease.
On your calculator, divide waist measurement
Waist Measurement
Waist circumference may be a much more
accurate measure of future health problems
because what matters is where you carry
your excess kilos/pounds. Research shows
that people with “apple shaped” bodies (with
more weight around the waist) face more
health risks than those with “pear shaped”
bodies (more weight around hips). A waist
circumference greater than 80cm (32in) for
women and 94cm (37in) for men indicates
increased risk, while a measurement of more
than 88cm (35in) for women and 102cm
(40in) for men is particularly worrying.
Slowly breathe out.
Don’t hold your stomach in.
Measure your waist circumference at the
narrowest part. Do not pull the tape too tight.
Measure your hip circumference
at its widest part.
by hip measurement.
For example, if your waist is 35” and your
hips are 41”, then divide 35 by 41, and your
calculator will give you a reading of 0.85.
This is the waist-hip ratio.
Men
Women
Low Risk 0.95 or less 0.80 or less
Moderate Risk
0.96 to 1.00 0.81 to 0.85
High Risk

If you find yourself in the moderate to high

Credit Crunch?
Recession?
Whatever.
There can be no denying that the economy
has gone, well how do you say it; pear
shaped? But if we are to believe the media
it really is the end of the world! Now the
grumbling of a slowing economy started
much earlier this year, even late last year,
but I can’t help but feel the media
wanted the economy to go into
recession just so that they could fill
hours and hours of how it is going to
destroy all our lives.
Things going too well? Well we can trust
the media to find fault, problems and other
nasty things for us all to worry about. I
am not denying that the impact of the
current financial situation is having terrible
consequences for many people with
mortgages or those whose jobs are at risk,
but the world isn’t about to end.
For those who lose their jobs or homes, the
government, banks and employers need
to act, but if you look at it generally, it is
the everyday person who suffers from this,
not the mega rich who in many ways have
created the problem itself through sheer
greed. For most of us the current situation
means we have to be that little bit more
careful in how we spend our money and
what we buy, but is that really a bad thing?
The 1990s saw the creation of throw away
fashion for example. Whole new stores
have graced our high streets offering stylish
clothing for less than the cost of a bottle of
water at times, once we wear them, off they
go to the back of our wardrobe never to be
worn again and to end up in landfill. Surely
less shopping is not a bad thing? I enjoy
clothes and shoes as much as anyone else,
but buying less and better quality clothing
means less waste and less exploitation of
a worlds resources already stretched to
breaking point.
During the boom we have just witnessed we
became a nation of shoppers, much more so
than any nation on earth, other than maybe
the US. I was shopping this Saturday (well
ok window shopping) and by the way others
were spending the so called credit crunch
seemed non-existent! And the other thing
that such a focus on shopping has created is
mono-cultures, where many UK cities have
nothing to offer other than ’great shopping’.
You can go almost anywhere in the EU and
find cities that offer great shopping, but they
also offer the visitor endless other sites and
activities to do and see. Do our lives really
need to revolve around shopping? And don’t
even get me started on ‘out of town retail
parks’, hell on earth. I can’t really remember
much of the recession of the early 1990s, but
I do re-call my parents not taking us overseas
for the first time in years. Only now can I
understand the worry they had at that time,
which luckily they came through ok.
I hope this credit crunch, recession or
whatever it is called results in a significant
shift in how we live and what we do with
our money. Buying and owning nice things is
great, but having to go without occasionally
is just life, get over it and get on with it. I
was recently watching the depressing news;
however one guest speaker on the news tried
to place the current situation within context.
As he said, recessions happen every 15 or so
years on average, the current shifting in the
worlds climate hasn’t happened for thousand
and thousands of years, now that really is
something worth worrying about.

Not Dead
Enough
Peter James,

Snuff movies. i’d never heard of them. Apparently
you make a film of a real life murder and distribute
it for the sexual arousal of others people! Hmm
don’t see the appeal myself, but it certainly inspired
Peter James to write Looking Good Dead, the second
instalment of the Di Roy Grace mysteries.
tom Bryce, the main character in the book after Grace
and his sidekick Branson, comes across a CD left by a
stranger on a train, he watches the CD when he gets
back home and is then drawn into a seedy underworld
of snuff movies, sexual exploitation and danger.
the story opens in traditional Peter James style as
chapter by chapter we follow a handful of characters
through snapshots of their daily lives, then before
you know it, you’re introduced-to and understand the
depressed, insecure, alcoholic wife and the stressedout modern father figure, desperately trying to hold onto
the tatters of his outwardly affluent lifestyle. James taps
into modern issues and themes of masculinity and the
fragility of the human condition, while describing the
mundane and the ordinary – and the whole thing is so
readable! anyone of any age group or social background
could pick up this book and read it cover to cover. the
writer uses his intelligence as a communicative tool
to reach out to the reader rather than confuse us with
immense detail or narrative, which results in a book
you cannot put down.
For Peter James fans, there is clever use of plot
reference from the first Roy Grace book (reviewed
in Issue 10 of out north East) Dead simple, which
he uses to give motivation to the main protagonists
in this latest story. these references back to the
original story give the eerie impression that you were
actually there at the event or that you remember
hearing a character talking about it happening.
this is an uncommon technique in modern literature
and is used well here.
this is a brilliant and well planned addition to the
Grace novels and I would wholeheartedly recommend
it to anyone.

On Chesil Beach
Ian McEwan
Vintage, 2007
I was having a doze thinking about Gary Barlow again,
when who should pop up on the tV, but Ronan keating
of Boyzone fame! He’s advertising the nintendo Ds
nowadays (seemingly the Boyzone comeback isn’t going
as well as the take that tour and album spectacular).
there’s something very attractive about these stars now
that they’ve aged a little. Maybe distance does make the
heart grow fonder? or is it that I too am a little older? I
don’t want to think about that. the next book for review
is on Chesil Beach by Ian McEwan and unlike take that
it will never go in and out of fashion. Mr McEwan has
created a time less classic.
Each time I read an Ian McEwan novel I fret over how
it will be received. I worry about the slow and slightly
dislocated opening and the light and indirect way he
introduces his characters and their feelings. I panic that
readers with little patience won’t be able to follow the
meander of his writing as it weaves it’s tale. I wait every
time for it all to fall apart before my eyes, but each and
every time he pulls the story and the reader through to
a brilliant climax.
McEwan’s books are roller coaster rides of familiarity and
surprise. He details, like an artist, human emotions and
the way we react to our surroundings and the pressures
placed upon us by ourselves and by others. In on Chesil
Beach, McEwan deals with an experience we’ve (almost)
all had – that of losing our virginity.
as such, it has the potential of being a cringey and
embarrassing tale; and in the wrong hands could have
been a classic British farce complete with comedy
vicars and nervous maiden aunts. However, thanks
to McEwan’s intelligent characterisation and subtle
storytelling, we are presented with a modern classic.
though only 166 pages long, on Chesil Beach manages
to encompass rich historical detail, the uniquely British
obsession with class and the inner-most emotions of two
young people fifty years ago and yet is more enjoyable
and more readable than most literary classics.

The credit crunch
Two years ago ‘What would happen to
my deposit account in the event of my
bank becoming insolvent?’ was a financial
adviser’s exam question; one of those facts
you memorise for the exam and then forget
about it because, in real life, the question is
never asked. Now almost everyone knows
the answer! (The first £50,000 is protected
100%, although the rest could be lost).
the northern Rock, Bradford and Bingley and
Halifax Bank of scotland are all house hold
names where investors have had concerns
about the safety of their money, but there are
other risks associated with deposit accounts,
not just the risk of the bank’s insolvency.
Inflation risk can affect the real value of capital
over the longer term. If inflation is higher than
interest rates (and do not forget to deduct tax
as well) the purchasing power of your money
will fall. today, a Mars Bar costs around 50p,

Changes in taxation are also a threat to our

calculate the actual rate of return, tax should
be deducted from interest payments, 20 or

standard rate tax payer will earn 4% net of

travel
tokyo
By Dr Mark Casey
Have you ever seen Lost in Translation? Its focus is the sheer confusion (and mid
life crisis) of its central character played by Bill Murray during a work trip to Tokyo?
The magic of the film is that it catches the city of Tokyo - all its absurdity and sheer
brilliance perfectly. Heading to Tokyo to meet up with my best friend who was
travelling around the globe I had no idea what to expect, but I just had hope beyond
hope that this trip would blow me away. Tokyo did not fail in doing this
28.Out NorthEast
www.outnortheast.com
At the time the flight to Tokyo was the
longest I had ever undertaken and one that
gripped me with fear, but all that evaporated
as I met my friend Andy on the other side
of the world and jumped onto the daunting
Tokyo underground to find our hotel. Now the
thing is - the underground makes the London
Tube seem like Newcastle Metro, barely
anybody speaks English (and we didn’t speak
Japanese) and the streets and roads do not
have names. All together making for a long
and frustrating search for our hotel.
Once we eventually found it (3 hours later)
we dumped our bags and headed out for
real Japanese food. We found a great shonky
building serving the most amazing cuisine for
very little cost. We sat on floor whilst the food
was cooked at our table. The restaurant (if I
can call it that) was packed with Japanese
business men and students unwinding after
their long days. Eating there was something
that will stay for me forever.
Now this was a flying trip, we only had
eight days, but once you get the grip of the
underground which is like a city itself, you
can whiz around the city pretty easily. The
city is huge, greater Tokyo has around 35
million inhabitants, so personal space is nonexistent, but you soon get used to jostling
for your position in stores, at road crossings
and on the underground. For shoppers Tokyo
is a must. There are many great districts,
but some of the key areas are Shibuya and
Shinjuku offering everything clothing wise
you could ever dream of and presenting the
spectacle of thousands of uber stylish young
Japanese people milling around looking too
cool for school.
Both Andy and I are shopaholics and we
spent a small fortune whilst in Tokyo on some
great clothes, with men’s stores being just
as good as the women’s shops - something
British retailers could learn from! If you go in
the heart of summer, which can be horrific,
shop in the late evening with most stores
open until 10pm. What you will also notice
in Tokyo is how polite and kind everyone
appears to be. Crime in Tokyo is very low
compared to most other countries and we felt
very safe walking through the streets at 3, 4
or 5am each morning. Whilst walking along
the streets so late make sure you do not trip
over the endless business men asleep on the
pavement, briefcases as pillows, who have
missed the last train home after a late night.
Can you imagine that in Newcastle or
Middlesbrough?
There is a gay scene in Tokyo, although
much of it is very low key. The bars are tiny,
literally big enough to fit about 8-10 people
in, making them very cosy. Most of the bars
and clubs are located in the Shinjuku Nichome district which is very welcoming and
friendly. Andy and I got terribly lost, although
coming to our rescue came 3 amazing Tokyo
drag queens literally dragging us through
the streets of Tokyo for 20 minutes until they
delivered us at our desired location, and off
they disappeared into the night.
Tokyo is not cheap and nor is getting there,
but if you want a trip that you will never
forget its worth saving for. Tokyo and its
sheer absurdity and kindness will stay with
you forever, lasting much longer than many
of the clothes you will splurge on!

Miss Trixie
Hi Boys and Girls.
It’s that time again were I try to sort out the worlds problems in
one page. I can’t believe that Christmas is just around the corner
and the winter is now well and truly here. Were did our long hot
summer go to? The news is all bad and if I here about this credit
crunch anymore I think I will rob a bank and spend the lot. Ha
ha. Well let’s see what letters are in my sack this month and let’s
hope you get the answers you want.
Hi Trixie
I am a 27yr old gay man and live with my partner. I lost my
farther 3 yrs ago and it was a very hard time for me and my
family. My partner of 6yrs helped me and gave me all the
support i needed to move on and rebuild my life without the
farther I loved very much. After 2 yrs my Mam met another
guy and now seems very happy and I’m so pleased she has
found someone else to share her life with. That’s great I hear
you say but and there is a big BUT. Her new partner is very
anti gay. He will have nothing to do with me, when I phone my
Mam and he answers he puts the phone down on me. He has
moved in with my Mam and told her he will not have me in
the house. I never get to spend anytime with my Mam. If I do
see her it’s for a quick coffee in town when he is at work. She
lies to him to see me and I can’t bear to think I have lost my
Mam to. What can I do to get her away from this man?
Well first of all I don’t mean to be rude about your Mam but I
would have thought she would have stood up to him and said
if you don’t like my son he is part of the deal so sod off. You
say that she is happy with this man, well; if she is then there
is not much you can do about him. She seems to want the best
of both worlds her man and her secret meets with her son.
The only person who is not happy here is you, and I can totally
understand why. You seem to have a very nice partner and the
next bit might hurt but it’s the truth. You build your life with
the man you love, and let your Mam build her life with the one
she loves. Tell her the next time you meet for coffee how much
this is hurting you and you’re not happy. If she is not gong to
understand and sort this mess out then you need to tell her
you don’t want to see her anymore. She has made her bed so to
speak. Leave the door open for her, and tell her you will always
be there if she needs you. I’m sure in time a true mother will
see the light and tell this guy to put up, shut up, or get out. Good
luck love Trixie

Am I wasting my time? I’m currently in an open relationship, but
I adore my partner and want us to stop seeing other people. We
meet and sleep together twice a week. I stay at his house and he
stays at mine. I do see other guys, meet them for fun, but they
mean nothing to me. I’m sure my boyfriend knows I adore him
and there is no one else for me, but I want him to feel the same. I
just feel that I am being used for sex and I want more.
Maybe its time to call his bluff. He seems quite happy living
this life, why? Because you let him! He needs to know what he
might be losing if you weren’t around. Tell him a little lie that
someone else is really keen on you and that he has a bit of
competition. That may kick him into gear and get him to make
some commitment. If he doesn’t fall for that one then you got
two things you can do. Carry on unhappy or dump him and find
a new bit of meat. Love Trixie. xx
What can I do? I’ve made a big mistake and I don’t know how
to get out of it. I am a single lesbian. I went out two weeks ago
with my boss after work for a drink. (She is a lesbian and has a
girlfriend) we got totally drunk and she came back to my house
for a so called coffee. YES we slept together and she then got a
taxi home. I woke up and went to work the next day and felt
really bad about what happened. She called me into her office
and told me she enjoyed last night and wanted more. I did not
know what to say. It was a big mistake and I don’t want to repeat
it again, I just want to get on with my job and forget about it. She
won’t leave me alone and keeps touching me and rubbing past
me in the office all the time. I want and need my job but she is
upsetting me so much I don’t know what to do.
You may have been a silly girl getting drunk and having sex with
your boss, but that was outside of work. In work you have rights
and you don’t have to put up with this harassment. Yes that’s
what it is. You need to make it clear to her to leave you alone or
you will have no other option but to report this to her boss or to
go via the company disciplinary procedures. I’m sure she would
not want this to get out to the other workers and also don’t
forget that she has a partner. I’m sure she has not told her about
her romp with the girl from work. Be honest tell her to back off
and if not then take the gloves off and let her fight her way out
of the hole she is in. best of luck xxxx
Well guys and dolls, that’s about it from me for this issue and this

of love, fun and happy times. i will have a drink on Christmas day

aries
March 21st - april 19th
You are seeking to broaden your horizons. But it might mean
putting something or someone on hold for a while. Follow your
heart on this one. People at work will be queueing up to offer
advice but you will ultimately be drawn by the words of wisdom
from a trusted friend. But you are in for a fun time with this
change, so go out and enjoy!
taurus
april 20th - May 20th
things are on the up for you at the moment! You derive a lot of
pleasure from the little things in life. any new romance beginning now is likely to be long-lasting. You are the life and soul of
the party too, and friends are lining up to spend time with you.
Colleagues will share secrets with you as you appear very trustworthy. Popularity-wise, it doesn’t get much better than this!
Gemini
May 21st - June 20th
You will be spending a large proportion of your time on your
career in the coming weeks. this will leave little time for social
activities. But don’t be afraid to dream! If nothing else don’t lose
touch with friends: the odd text or phone call won’t go amiss.
Beware of a proposition that looks too good to be true. test the
water with it, but don’t jump in with both feet until you are
absolutely sure.
Cancer
June 21st - July 22nd
You might have been having a hard time with a partner, a work
colleague or a situation lately. But whatever the problem, it is
sure to be a storm in a tea-cup! things are set to improve, and
you will find particular solace in the company of a special friend
or lover. You may find that your social and business worlds will
soon collide, but there will be benefits, and your career might
start heading in a new direction!
leo
July 23rd - august 22nd
Good times are ahead! Family and friends will feature strongly
in activities over the next few weeks and fun will be had by all!
You might find a spark of romance in an unlikely place - at work
maybe. Whilst in good spirits it might be a good time to indulge
in some DIY or home improvements - your creativity is overflowing and your positive motivation will get the job done in half the
time.
Virgo
august 23rd - september 22nd
You’re in a dreamy state of mind, and you’re keen to make some
of these ideas real! share your thoughts with a close friend and
you’ll increase the chances of making them happen. things are
going well for you socially - use your friends to bounce ideas off
too. listen to their comments and take heed of any advice. Workwise you are likely to find that it gets busier, but keep those
dreams foremost in your mind and focus on making them work
for you!
september 23rd - october 22nd
there may be one or two loose tongues at work, and idle
rumours could soon spiral out of control. keep a lid on your personal plans and be careful who you trust. and don’t believe any
gossip you hear either! Cost cutting will also become a priority
for you in the near future. Maintain a grasp of your spending
and don’t let it get out of control. keep your pennies in your
pocket now and you’ll have some left for Christmas!
scorpio
october 23rd - november 21st
You might be feeling down in the dumps over an aspect of your
life - maybe it’s at work, at home or romantically. It is time to
take stock and make a critical decision on your future. You will
need to consult with loved ones, but have the courage of your
own convictions and make the first bold step yourself. Money
shouldn’t be a problem, you might find a little extra this month.
Invest it in making the change.
sagittarius
november 22nd - December 21st
You’re being driven mad at work. You need a time out. If you can
work from home - do it! Focus your thoughts as there may be some
pressing issues to deal with over the next few weeks. Discretion
will be key. a friend may want to share a secret with you, so give
them your confidence. Your love life is on the up - and if you are
looking for love then watch out in the most unlikely places!
Capricorn
December 22nd - January 19th
You may have reached boiling point in a friendship or relationship. a difficult decision might be required. If you have to move
on then don’t look back - if, however, you think you can work
it through, then lay down a few ground rules to set you on an
even keel, and agree to communicate with each other. Your
business matters are looking rosy though, and a closing deal
will prove fruitful!
aquarius
January 20th - February 18th
You might well need to illicit the support of others to achieve your
aims. Use your natural charm to win people over! the project will
depend upon their input, but if you use the resources correctly,
then you will earn the plaudits. there may be some travelling on
the horizon for you as well. look out for opportunities in the next
few weeks. It may mean though that you have to move on from a
romantic liaison. Decide carefully.
Pisces
February 19th - March 20th
You are in the mood for booking some time off. Deal with pressing matters at home first and then concentrate on finding that
perfect break. Your positive energy will soon make you forget
about anyone or anything that has upset you recently. Brimming with confidence, you will return from the break refreshed
and inspired. this mood will rub off on friends and family and
you’ll find yourself high in the popularity stakes!
