Last week I stepped out of my comfort zone as the Year 12 Manager and became the Acting
Principal and Assistant Principal of the College. I often talk to the Year 12 students about
the courage that taking any kind of first steps takes but this time it was my journey. I was
privileged to talk to staff about how we are supporting our students with engaging
curriculum and watching passionate teachers talk about their growing success with
students in the classroom. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to staff and students talking about
their own journeys and the pride they have for our College exemplifying our values of
respect, learning and working together.
Last week we celebrated our multicultural assembly which showcased the depth of talent
in the school with students representing their cultures through dance and song. This has
always been a highlight of the College and a much anticipated event. The audience
embraced the performances and it was especially pleasing to see our Junior School students
taking active roles. Well done to the staff and students on a very special assembly.
Our Year 11 students have been undergoing Unit 1 exams and on my visits to the exam
room they have been hard at work. I have been very impressed by their focus and
determination.
The General Achievement Test (GAT) will run on Wednesday the 10 th of June for all
students completing Unit ¾ studies this year. For many this will be their first three hour
exam and I encourage them to be prepared, well rested and have eaten a nutritious
breakfast.
Congratulations to the Year 9 Drama students on their performance on Tuesday 2 nd June at
the Drama Victoria Theatre Festival Event hosted at HPSC. The students created their own
work and their performance was outstanding. Many thanks to Ms Lingard and Mrs van
Heerwaarden for their work in securing this event.
VCAL interviews are underway with Intermediate completed and Senior to start this week.
Students have been organised and well prepared by their teachers. Although some may
have been a little nervous, the interview process is vital for progress feedback to ensure
success.
The new decked area outside of Senior School has finally been completed and looks great.
The students and teachers have been enjoying the new space.
It has certainly been a busy time at HPSC and we are looking forward to ‘Night of the
Notables’ and the Year 12 formal on the last day of term. Thank you to the students, staff
and parents for supporting me during the last week, I have thoroughly enjoyed the
opportunity of working with you all.

Hi everyone,
Please check out the 12 Dreamtime Animations that
have been placed on Compass Newsfeed. These are to
acknowledge National Sorry Day/Reconciliation Week
and emphasise the importance of Aboriginal Literature/
Art/Music for all Australians regardless of their
cultural origins.
It is especially important that our recent arrivals from
other lands learn about Aboriginal culture regularly so
it is fitting that we celebrated Multiculturalism last
week and that our assembly featured some indigenous
performances. I have attached one of the animations
and its accompanying study guide if you want to check
it out. It is my favourite of the twelve! The animations
and study guides will be on the newsfeed until the end
of this week!

LATER YEARS EXPO EVENING
The Later Years Expo will be held on Wednesday 17 th June, 2015 starting in the CRC at 6:00pm. This event provides all Year 10
students, and those in Year 9 who wish to accelerate into a VCE subject in 2016, an opportunity to meet with subject domain teachers
and tertiary providers to discuss the range of learning pathways available to them in 2016-2017. The expo will be followed by a short
presentation from the careers team in the River Gum Performing Arts Centre (RPAC) at 7:00pm.

SENIOR BOYS AFL
On Thursday 14th of May, the Senior Boys AFL teams along
with Mr Marks and Mr Ware attended Berwick Springs
Recreation Reserve to participate in division AFL. The boys
played 4 games on the wet and windy day.
Our campaign kicked off against Alkira Secondary College
and despite eventually going down 6.4.40 to 2.1.13 the
boys put in a spirited performance by never giving up.
There were several good passages of play by the boys.
Better players included Cam Lemke-Parr, Mark Stadnikov,
John Vongphone, Tristan Palmer-Dodd, Jay Vailoaloa and
Jeremiah Leilua. Jacob Tavae was the only goal scorer
snagging 2.
In the second game we played against Lyndhurst
Secondary College. The boys got off to a flying start kicking
5 goals straight in the first quarter. Again, the boys played
team footy by getting everyone involved and managed to
have 6 different goal kickers in the 7.1.43 to 2.2.14 win.
Better players were Brandon Campbell, Jesse Jones, TK
Isamaela, Cam Lemke-Parr and Mark Stadnikov. Goal
kickers were Jacob Tavae with another 2 goals, Florian
Kauffman- Lepre, Jesse Jones, Nipuna DeAlwis, Mark
Stadnikov and John Vongphone.
Financial Assistance Information for Parents
Our third game was against a very polished Koo Wee Rup
Secondary College. The boys worked hard all game on the
big ground and had limited opportunities to score. The
boys went down 8.5.52 to 0.0.0 however, the score-line
could’ve been much worse if they had of given up in any
stage of the match. Better players
were Robert
Taylor, Namat Bahrami, Mark
Stadnikov,
Jeremiah Leilua and Kyle Frith.
Our fourth and final game was against Cranbourne
Secondary College. Unfortunately, we were the walking
wounded by the last game with several players
succumbing to cramp and other minor injuries. The boys
were in front for the whole game apart for the final two
minutes when Cranbourne took the lead and went on to
win by 11 points. Full credit again to the boys who
continued to play good footy even with the fatigue.
Overall, the boys should be very proud of their efforts and
special mentions to the year 12’s who may have played
their last games of interschool sport for the College.
