WEEKLY NEWSLETTER
SENIOR PRODUCTION
OLIVER TWIST
A spectacular production and an overwhelming success enjoyed by all, boys
and staff were still heard to be humming the tunes around the school days
later!
Don’t forget to order your DVD - a show well worth keeping on film. Order
forms are available in the office, if you haven’t got one, they need to be
completed by the end of the first week back at school after Easter.
Photos from the performances are also available for viewing and can be
purchased at ChrisBphotography.co.uk - password Oliver! There will also
be a souvenir book available from their website during the Easter break.

Staff v Pupil Music Challenge
The Staff v Pupil challenge assembly was sandwiched in between the two Oliver performances and with the
older boys feeling fatigued I thought the lower years might take the opportunity to grab some much
needed points. The 3 team captains: Olisa Aghadiuno (Years 3-5), Elvin Pepra (Years 6-8) and Staff
(Mr C. Jones) chose 5 representatives each. The challenge consisted of correctly decoding a musical
message played on a Djembe. The first round was a knock out round to see which contender was the best
for each team and the successful 3 who reached the final were Lucas Wan, Teshan Seneviratne and
Mrs Turner.
They were all excellent but Mrs Turner came out on top with the scores as follows:
Lower School - 10, Upper School - 15 and Staff - 24. For the first time ever we go into Easter with the staff
clearly in the lead.

Cadogan Hall
On Sunday 22 March, Andrew Ah-Weng and I went to Cadogan Hall, London, to participate in an
Annual Concert run by London Suzuki Group (LSG). We both played in different cello groups. My
group performed 'Gavotte' by David Popper and 'Andante' by Handel. Performing in a group
requires a lot of listening skills as well as precise timing. However, when performing solo, you
also have to have good concentration as you are on your own. I am looking forward to next year as
it is going to be even bigger! We will be performing in the Royal Albert Hall.

The Royal Festival Hall
In the same week as the Oliver performances and the night before two of them flew to
Barbados, Michael Ifalore, Arjun Gobiraj, Mihir Gandecha, Bobby Akeya-Price and Matthew
Olukoga sang at The Royal Festival Hall with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Whitgift
Chamber Orchestra. An amazing experience for all of them and another venue to add to the growing
number that they and other Cumnor Boys have performed at this year. Well Done!

CCF CHAMPIONS' LEAGUE CHESS
The Cumnor House Chess Team gave
an incredible performance at the CCF
CHAMPIONS' LEAGUE CHESS
qualifier event. This event is fiercely
competitive and twenty teams from
Surrey East and Sussex competed to
qualify for semi-finals and finals.
The team which was made up of Aditya
Jain- 6R, Robert Akeya-Price- 4B,
Matthew Hoy- 5B and Aaron Mohindra3M, played a strategic and masterful
game, blazing to first place! As a result,
this win has automatically qualified
the team for a place in the upcoming
and prestigious final.
Well done boys!
MATHS CHALLENGE
We entered 60 boys into the Primary Maths Challenge.
Over 79,000 pupils in 2,035 schools entered! Of these pupils, 1184 pupils scored 21 or
more and were invited to take part in the Bonus Round in February.
Three of our boys from the 11+ class fell into this category: Rohan Amte, Junaid Ali and
Joseph Epsom. Joseph Epsom was awarded 22 out of 25 and was one of 153 boys receiving
a silver medal. Junaid Ali was awarded 17 out of 25 and was one of 327 boys who received
bronze. Rohan narrowly missed out on receiving a medal by just one mark.

On 26 April 2015, I'm running in
the London Marathon 2015 for
the Samaritans. It's a charity
place and as they only had 30
such places to allocate, I was
delighted when they approached
me in the summer.
Clearly the work is now on - both to train for this event and to fundraise. The
facts are staggering and essentially it's what drove me to accept this
challenge, as I'm not a runner by any stretch of the imagination!! Every 60
seconds the Samaritans receive a call
from someone with suicidal feelings.
Last year they had 5.1 million calls for
help. Their reach also extends beyond
the phone lines - they also provide help
and support in schools, hospitals, prisons
and they work closely with the railway
companies and the homeless.
We all know that depression can affect
anyone at any point in their lifetime regardless of age, gender, ethnicity,
social class or even celebrity status.
