U9 Grey – Weekly Update
Coach’s Report
Round 1: Sunday April 12 – Lysterfield Grey v Mitcham
Well we were finally here. Our first competitive match after 6 weeks of training. Everyone was very
excited & couldn’t wait to get out there & show what we had learned & been working on at training.
In our first season of home & away football we travelled to Mitcham which is an outstanding surface
to play on. We used the change rooms for the first time which was a real buzz for the boys.
Led out by our captain for the day Cooper Fisher we started a little scrappy & kicking into a slight
breeze was making the going a little tough. But to our boys credit they kept to our simple game plan
& with a great goal from one of our new players Luke Stephens there was nothing in it at quarter
time.
The second quarter was all ours. Dominating out of the middle with great ruck work from Noah Linke
who gave our on ballers such as Kyle Taylor & Cooper Fisher every opportunity to clear it out &
deliver to our forwards. Cooper Wolk was outstanding up forward kicking 2 great goals and running
into space as instructed, along with two more new boys Zach Tulloch & Jack Stephens who also
snagged there first of many goals for the mighty wolves. Christian Johnson also a new boy showed
good desperation diving on the ball & giving a handball to a team mate in better position.
The third quarter was again a struggle with the wind picking up but with great defensive work from
Kyle Taylor, Flynn Tapp & Denver Clarke who were all rock solid & desperate holding the charging
Mitcham boys to only 2 goals. Flynn Rendell was tenacious as always throwing his body on the
bottom of every pack & never giving up on the contest. Max Berry was everywhere running hard &
straight the only way he knows how. Which was great to see after coping a nasty boot to the face in
the first quarter. Alec Keisoglu was also great taking several strong marks & showing off his silky
skills.
The final quarter was again a great team effort with Charlie Watt running hard & fast, showing great
intent to the contest & never giving up on the footy. Darcy Truin had a great game, winning his own
footy, using his pace to burst through packs & kicking the sealing goal. Overall a fantastic effort. The
boys showed great team work throughout the match & with so many new boys in our team we are
only going to get better with time. Couldn’t be happier with the boys & are really proud of the way
they played today. Congratulations to Zach Tulloch who won the medal for a fantastic 4 quarter
match, dominating all over the ground in every position I played him.
