FROM THE PRINCIPALS
After an extremely busy first term the school holidays
are just a day away. I would like to congratulate all of
the students for the fantastic effort that has been put
into both classroom learning and playground antics. It
really has been a lovely start to the year and I’m sure
all of our new students and families are now feeling
like they have been part of the school community
forever!
A very sincere thank you to the parents, students and
staff who helped out at our recent Busy Bee. As
always a huge amount was achieved and we are all
enjoying the benefits of new bag hooks, painted
benches and beautiful gardens – THANK YOU!
We wish you a very safe and relaxing holiday break
and look forward to welcoming everyone (staff and
th
students) back to school on Monday 6 May.
Alison Robb and Annabella McKern

We are asking for any donations/loans
of crowns, tiaras, swords and anything
medieval.
Also, old dresses that would be suitable or
could be adapted for princesses or queens. In
addition knights, wizards, witches and warlocks, so
anything would be greatly appreciated.
Please contact Penny Anderson 0414 579 181 or
[email protected] if you think you can
help. Beginning of next term we will be asking for all
those who sew to help out!

JAPANESE NEWS
Konnichi wa! My name is Fiona Blair but you can call
me “sensei”. I have been teaching Japanese to the
Year 3’s since the beginning of this year and have
thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the sugoi students
in those two classrooms.
Next term I will be taking over from Ino
Sensei to teach the Year 4-7 students
as well. I’m looking forward to
getting to know many more of you
(and your teachers) as the year
progresses. I will be at Mosman
Park on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Please say konnichi wa to me if you
see me around the school.
Arigatou!

METRO BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT
The Mosman Park Primary School Boys and Girls
Basketball teams performed extremely well in the
recent Association Cup Basketball Tournament held
at the State Basketball Centre, Perry Lakes.
MUSIC NEWS
"Oh What a Knight", well what a Saturday afternoon!!!
I could not attempt to name all the parents and
helpers who contributed to our busy bee. The Music
room is looking very stylish and cool. I am also very
grateful to the parents who started sorting out
costumes for the musical. I hadn't even got that far,
now that I’m the Friday Kindergarten teacher. What a
beautiful community, I have always been such a
proud teacher of our school and now I feel so
privileged to be a family member.
I am so excited about next term.... It is going to be
great fun and hard work and I could not do this alone
without all the passionate, smart and creative team
we have on the task.
What makes Mosman Park Schools so great, is we
get in and do it.... we do it for the amazing children we
have. They are the inspiration, heart and soul of this
community...It warms my heart when I look up on the
oval and see a variety of age groups, from one to
seven, combining, guiding and enjoying each others
company.... This is what sets us apart....
The Boys’ Team finished third overall with some
outstanding performances especially against one of
the more fancied teams, Sutherland Dianella Primary
School. The boys played extremely well in all games
and deserved the third place finish.
Please feel free to contact me via email.
The Girls’ Team also performed extremely well and
achieved great results against other schools. They
finished fourth in their competition. The Girls’ team
gained some valuable experience playing against
some of the stronger teams in the competition.
LOST AND FOUND
We have quite a few pairs of prescription
glasses that have been left behind and
brought to the office. If you have lost a pair
recently, please come and check with us.
Thank you to Mrs Miller and Mr B for helping coach
the teams on the day.
Term 1 closes tomorrow. Please take the time to
check the lost property bin for items belonging to you.
Items of uniform which are not collected are donated
to the uniform shop for re-sale.

CHAPLAIN’S CORNER
Hi Parents/Carers,
I have just attended the YouthCARE Annual 3 day
Conference, returning with lots of great information,
so I thought I might share something of interest with
you. Here is some food for thought leading up to the
holidays. The latest neuroscientific research has
found that ‘Words can change your brain, and the
right words spoken in the right way can generate
mutual rapport with others. The right words can
enable cooperation, while the wrong words can
generate conflict in less than a second. Words
generate thoughts, and thoughts change the way you
perceive the world. Positive thoughts generate
feelings of peacefulness and serenity, whereas
negative thoughts generate anxiety, fear and doubt.
Recent studies have even shown that gazing at a list
of positive words makes you feel better.’ This is an
excerpt from ‘Change your words, change your world’
by Andrea Gardner.
Also, I have placed the ‘Rainbows Grief & Loss
Program’ letter to parents containing the permission
slip, on the webpage under School Services / School
Chaplain. If these are of any interest to you please
download, fill in and return to me by the first week of
next Term.
The Netta Netball information/permission slip is on the
webpage as well for easy access. Please return to me
also at the beginning of Term 2 as both these
nd
programs will begin on Week 2 of 2 Term.
P & C NEWS
Hi Everyone! I have survived my first term as
President, and I wanted to thank everyone for their
support. In particular, I wanted to thank all those who
turned up for the Busy Bee on Saturday. Everyone
who came worked like an absolute Trojan and it was
fantastic.
The bench seats under the Fig Tree look great,
courtesy of Dulux who donated the paint. The Frog
Bog is restored to its former glory, there are new bag
hooks in place and the ones outside the Year One
classrooms have been lowered.
Lots of new trees and shrubs have been planted and
old ones pruned.
The veggie patch has been
revitalized and the new garden near the stairs
(designed by Year One student, Hugo Silbert) looks
amazing. And don’t forget to have a look inside the
music room –very stylish with the wall paper panels
and new paint!
I hope that everyone enjoys their holidays and comes
back refreshed and ready to help us get ready for our
whole of school musical to be held in Term 3!
Many thanks,
Bridie Pestell, P & C President

MOSMAN PARK POET CORNER
18 April 2013
Here are some poems written by budding poets at Mosman Park Primary School.
PERSONALITY LAYERS
To strangers on the street I’m a tiny, young, curious 6 year-old, ordinary boy
To other kids at school I’m apparently really cute.
To my friends I’m a really creepy, random clown.
To my really close friends I’m a tiny cricket-playing video-gamer.
To my friends I knew before I’m a fun, annoying punching-bag.
To myself I think I’m pretty cool.
To my family I’m the little baby brother.
In My dream I’m a Pro-fisherman.

LIFE AT MOSMAN PARK PRIMARY SCHOOL
Close, close to you at Mosman park primary
Life is out there
Do kids scream and shout
Or do they sit there quietly working out?
Life is out there
Do they run like chickens to canteen every Friday?
Do they have wonderful class?
Life is out there
Do they have a teacher like a bear?
Do they have really bad hair?
Oh life is out there
Katie Jackson
LIFE ON MOSSIE
Far, far away in the middle of Mozzie
Life is somewhere out there.
Do the leaves blow?
Or do we grow,
Life is out there.
Does the wind go,
Because we should know!
Life is out there.
Is it true it’s a great place?
Of course it is, so have a happy face!
Life is out there.
Is it true there’s a great big tree?
Absolutely now where could it be?!
Life is out there.
