For virksomhedens
Formidlingen
Nye regler for afhentning
beregnet hammerslagsgebyr. Se købskonditionerne på side 514.

The main office has moved to Sundkrogsgade in Copenhagen
Furthermore, many of the auction house’s functions have been concentrated in Copenhagen’s Nordhavn. For
the company’s customers, this means that e.g. customer ser vice and the bookkeeping department will be
located at Sundkrogsgade 30. Likewise, the primar y valuation and consignment function has been moved from
Bredgade 33 to Sundkrogsgade 30 and Baltikavej 10. This means that valuation and consignment of items
for traditional as well as online auctions will now chief ly be handled in these two branches both of which are
conveniently located in relation to public transportation and luckily also have much better parking facilities
than the old auction house in Bredgade.
Sundkrogsgade will be the setting of valuation and consignment of both older and modern paintings, antiques,
furniture, design, jewellery and decorative art.
Bruun Rasmussen expands at Baltikavej in Copenhagen
At Bruun Rasmussen we have recently expanded our facilities in Copenhagen’s Nordhavn. The existing domicile in Utzon’s visionar y edifice at Sundkrogsgade 30 has been supplemented with an additional 4.000 square
metres of new spaces at Baltikavej 10 close by. The big blue building houses Bruun Rasmussen’s departments
of collectibles: Books and manuscripts; Stamps, postal histor y and postcards; Coins, medals and bank notes
as well as Wine and a storage facility.
At Baltikavej, the auction house’s experts will be ready to assist with non-binding valuations of collectibles.
Consignment of such items will also take place here.
The old auction house in Bredgade
In the old listed building from 1794 in Bredgade 33, Bruun Rasmussen has conducted traditional auctions of
countless art objects for more than sixty years. And we will continue to do so! The 10-12 traditional auctions
conducted annually will continue to be held in the auction hall in Bredgade 33.
To a limited extent it will still be possible to have both older and modern paintings, antiques, furniture, design,
jewellery and decorative art valuated and consigned at the same address.
New Jutland head office at Søren Frichs Vej in Aarhus
Bruun Rasmussen has also relocated its Jutland head office to Aarhus from Pedersholm Manor in Vejle. As
of April 1st, therefore, Pedersholm Manor will be used for something else. In Aarhus, the two large, modern
premises at Søren Frichs Vej 34D now house Bruun Rasmussen’s auctions in Jutland, henceforth conducted
exclusively online. The beautiful building, formerly the location of Aarhus Machine Works, is located a mere
2 kilometres from Aarhus city centre, ARoS and the motor road. Every week this new auction house will present
new paintings, f urniture classics, designer lamps, antiques and jeweller y, and it will be open daily for
valuation, consignment and preview. Items deemed better suited for a traditional auction will be transported
to Copenhagen and sold from the auction hall in Bredgade.
Bruun Rasmussen Properties
Bruun Rasmussen Properties has also been moved from Bredgade to Sundkrogsgade 30 in Copenhagen’s Nordhavn. Here we present choice properties, villas and countr y houses in Denmark and abroad. Real estate is a
natural extension of Bruun Rasmussen’s sale of art and furniture. The auction house ensures a select exposure
for the right circle of Danish and international clients.
New rules for claiming of items
Bruun Rasmussen has introduced new rules for claiming of auction items. Items bought at Action 801 must be
paid and claimed in Bredgade 33 by Monday, May 25th at the latest. Otherwise, they will be moved to Bruun
Rasmussen’s storage facility at Baltikavej 10 in Copenhagen’s Nordhavn at the buyer’s expense and risk. This
transportation will cost DKK 100 per item VAT included, and storage will cost DKK 100 per item per week VAT
included. If it is impossible for you to claim your items within this period of time, you can arrange transportation
or mailing by way of our website. Please note that this must also be done before Monday, May 25th.
Changes in the buyer’s premium
As of Januar y 1st Bruun Rasmussen has changed the buyer’s premium to 24 percent (VAT excluded). This
change applies for all purchases at Bruun Rasmussen’s auctions, whether traditional or online. As before, no
hammer price fees will be added. You will find the conditions of purchase at 516.

Velkommen til forårets internationale auktion
over ældre malerier og antikviteter
Blandt auktionens
Welcome to the international auction
of fine art and antiques in the spring
Danish Golden Age art is well represented with landscapes, marines and portraits. Christen Købke’s
portrait of his cousin, master baker P. Ryder, in relaxed posture and with a cigarillo in his hand,
merits special attention. Another Golden Age gem is Wilhelm Marstrand’s view from a window in
C.W. Eckersberg’s studio at Charlottenborg. The auction’s comprehensive selection of paintings
includes two fine light-blue moonlight pictures from Skagen by P.S. Krøyer. The auction also tempts
with a sketch for Krøyer’s famous painting of the Gentlemen of the Stock Exchange from 1895 which
is still located in the impressive building.
In the Russian section, we find a charming salt-cellar and a late Empire mirror, both former
possessions of Tsar Alexander III and Empress Dagmar in addition to Boris Mikhailovich Kustodiev’s
snow-clad cityscape from the year of the revolution and a fine collection of Russian drinking vessels
in silver and enamel – a so-called kovsh.
One of the highlights of the auction is the popular artist Bjørn Wiinblad’s private collection from the
”The Blue House” of blue-decorated Chinese porcelain and European faience. He was internationally
renowned for his decorative works with their distinctive imaginative expression. It is less wellknown that he was a passionate collector his whole life. From his collection, we present e.g. a rare
Yongzheng dish and two large Kangxi bowls. Read more about the Wiinblad collection page 516.
This time, the jewellery auction is held Monday, May 4th at 4.00 pm in order to accommodate a
request from our customers. It features rare coloured gems, e.g. a diamond necklace with South Sea
cultured pearls and an untreated Burma sapphire at 15.00 ct. in addition to a platinum ring with an
intense orange sapphire at more than 10.00 ct. Among the diamond jewellery, three diamond stars
are particularly noteworthy – they all derive from a diamond tiara from the 1930’s.
In the furniture section an oval mahogany table, ascribed to David Roentgen, assumes a crucial
position. It is no coincidence that Frederic the Great, Marie Antoinette and Catherine the Great were
all admirers of his excellent craftsmanship. He ranked as the quintessential cabinet-maker for the
princes of Europe, and Louis XVI of France gave him the title of ”Ébéniste-mécanicien du Roi et de
la Reine”, just as Frederic William II of Prussia later appointed him royal cabinetmaker.

Signed and dated J. Sonne 1835. Oil on canvas.
60 x 81 cm.
Thorvaldsens Museum, A Catalogue Raisonné of the
Works of Jørgen Sonne S 44.
Repetition of no. 35 in the Catalogue Raisonné. That
one dated Roma 1832 and exhibited at Charlottenborg
in 1833.
The subject was popular and was repeated by Sonne
four times. Two versions are today owned by the Thorvaldsens Museum, dated 1833 (no. 36 in the Catalogue Raisonné) and Den Hirschsprungske Samling
dated 1875 (no. 200 in the Catalogue Raisonné).
Hans Christian Andersen saw one version owned by
Bertel Thorvaldsen in an exhibition in Rome in 1834,
and he described it as: "Et smukt Bataillestykke", (A
beautiful battlefield).
The scene that takes place during the Napoleonic wars
depicts a Bavarian bivouac in the morning after the
battle with wounded soldiers. In Sonne's later war
paintings, one finds the same mood as in this early
work. He prefers to depict the quiet periods of reflection
after the battle rather than the actual battle scene.

Wilhelm Marstrand
b. Copenhagen 1810, d.s.p. 1873
“View through a window in the study of C. W.
Eckersberg at Charlottenborg”. C. 1829. Unsigned. Oil on canvas. 31 x 23 cm.
Provenance: Johannes Thiele married to the writer Anna Elisabeth Dorothea Thiele née Wedell-Wedellsborg to
Gjorslev. The grandparents of the claimant.
"View through a window" is one of the earliest paintings known by the hand of Marstrand. When Marstrand was 15 years old, he was admitted to the Academy of Fine Arts. C. W. Eckersberg, his first professor,
writes in his diary entry of August 7th 1826: Wilhelm
Marstrand has started his studies.
The young future painters had lessons in Eckersberg's
private study at Charlottenborg.
Gitte Valentiner, "Wilhelm Marstrand. Scenebilleder"
View of Bredgade from the study of Eckersberg was one
of the first paintings by Marstrand: The caretaker in a
red dress, the boys playing in the shadow of the building, several men speaking in one corner; in the sunshine a mother and child, and a dog jumping in front
of a carriage.
The intention was to
practice the young apprentices in "The Perspective" a
topic that was very dear to Eckersberg.
At ABR auction 673, 2000 no. 329 a painting with a
similar subject by Christen Købke dated 1829 was sold
for 2.500.000 Dkr. to Ny Carlsberg Fondet, today it resides at the Glyptoteket.
The painters and very good friends, Marstrand and
Købke, must have been working at the same view at the
same time because many details can be recognized in
both their paintings.

Henry Tuxen, who made the list of the paintings by
Petzholdt is a descendant of the painter. Petzholdt was
the brother of Tuxen's great-grandfather.
44
Tuxen registrated the paintings owned by the family,
and G. Collin owned more than 42 paintings, that were sold after his death in 1886.
At a very young age Petzholdt decided to become a
landscape painter.
He was taught by C. W. Eckersberg, and in Petzholdtz's early paintings the inspiration from the master
is evident.
The lots 30, 31, 34 and 37 are painted in Italy between 1832-1836, where he especially painted cliffs
and old trees in the Sabine Hills. These quick sketches
reveal just how talented he was. His way of painting is
often compared to that of Corot's, who was in Rome at
the same time. We do not know if they ever met.

The present City Hall in Copenhagen was built between 1893-1905. A retrospective exhibition of Danish
54
art was held during the building's construction, in
1901, under the leadership of the painters Karl Madsen, Theodor Philipsen and Kristian Zahrtmann. The
exhibition was a great success, and for some of the surplus, Krøyer was asked to paint a group portrait of the
leading men behind the construction of the City Hall:
The architects Martin Nyrop, Emil Jørgensen and the
Chairman of the Bricklayers Heinrich Krone. That
painting is still today in the City Hall's library. The
present painting is a finished study.

Edvard Eriksen
b. Copenhagen 1876, d.s.p. 1959
"Den lille Havfrue". The Little Mermaid. Signed
and dated Edvard Eriksen 1910. Patinated plaster sculpture. H. 50 cm. Book by Egon Eriksen:
"Edvard Eriksen og den lille havfrue" (Edvard
Eriksen and The Little Mermaid) is included.
Provenance: Stucco Worker Anker Constantin Nielsen,
who according to information from the present owners,
received the sculpture from Edvard Eriksen in the late
1920s. Anker Constantin Nielsen worked for Eriksen.
The present version of the famous and much loved
sculpture is unique being the earliest known draft of
the work. The Little Mermaid on Langelinie in Copenhagen dates from 1911 and was placed there in 1913.
The Mermaid here is dated 1910. In December 1909
Brewer Carl Jacobsen was filled with enthusiasm by Fini Henriques's ballet "Den lille Havfrue" playing at
Det kongelige Teater (The Danish National Theatre).
In early 1910 Jacobsen asked Edvard Eriksen to create
a sculpture of the Mermaid. A clay version of the sculpture from spring 1910 is known from a photo. The clay
sketch does not exist anymore and therefore the present
plaster sculpture is likely to be the earliest draft. Both
the clay and the plaster sketches are characterized by depicting the Mermaid after her change, with human feet
and without the Mermaid's tail. That was the way
Eriksen wanted to portray her, whereas Jacobsen preferred fins, or else she would not be a Mermaid. The two
disagreed on that central point for a while. Finally Jacobsen decided to leave it to the artist who then yielded
Jacobsen's wish and changed the feet into fins; a choice
with which he ended up being quite pleased. A plaster
version with fins from 1910 is thus also known. (Literature: Egon Eriksen, "Edvard Eriksen og den lille
havfrue" (Edvard Eriksen and The Little Mermaid),
1998, p. 7-18).

at Charlottenborg, Copenhagen, 1896. A photo of the painting hanging in that exhibition can be seen in the exhibition

Kunstforeningen, "Arbejder af Vilhelm Hammershøi", 1916
no. 111.
Provenance: Bought by Kunstforeningen in 1894. Later in
the collection of Alfred Bramsen, the painter's dear friend
and Patron.
In an interview given to the magazine "Hjemmet" (Home)
in 1909 Hammershøi states: "If people would only recognize
that a few good pieces of furniture in a room gives a far more
beautiful and fine look than do many mediocre things". And
further: "And if you could just get rid of all the 'rubbish' what a gain it would be for the look of the homes!". (Paul
Vad, "Hammershøi", 1988, p. 402-403). This 'matter of
fact' statement does not at first reveal any deep metaphysical
reflections concerning the interior decoration of Hammershøi's home. However the 'naked' lack of ostentation is an essential component in the fascination that Hammershøi's art
arouses. In a Hammershøi, it is as if time has stopped and
the moment is in a trancelike state.
Hammershøi has been famous internationally for a long time. Recently the British Comedian, Actor and Globetrotter
Michael Palin has been searching for the key to understanding Hammershøi's art. ("Michael Palin and the Mystery of
Hammershøi", BBC 2005). Along with so many others Palin is fascinated with the “mysterious” silence in Hammershøi's paintings.
In 2008 The Royal Academy of Arts, London and The National Museum of Western Art, Tokio exhibited more than 70
paintings by Hammershøi.

Vilhelm Hammershøi
b. Copenhagen 1864, d.s.p. 1916
Job, a study. C. 1887. Unsigned.
Oil on canvas mounted on board. 63 x 42 cm.
In the Catalogue Raisonné of the Works of Vilhelm
Hammershøi, written by Sophus Michaëlis' and Alfred
Bramsen, are listed 4 paintings with Job, painted by
Hammershøi: A finished work, which was later destroyed,
and three sketches. This indicates how much Hammershøi
worked with the motif. A religious painting by
Hammershøi is rare and exceptional. The "Book of
Job", in the Old Testament, describes him as a very religious and wealthy man. Suddenly he had been robbed
of all his money and thereafter he got very sick. The
story about Job is raising the question about, why
or-thodox and good people sometimes have to suffer, –
why life is sometimes unfair.

won with little effort, the Sirens were punished for their
daring by having feathers plucked from their wings by
the Sirens who wore these on their heads as a sign of

A known study for the present painting (no. 103 in the

the part of the country at Scheelenborg. Philipsen spent
the summer and autumn of 1872 at Hindsholm and
the manor Scheelenborg. He did many sketches and
studies of the landscape in order to qualify for the Neuhausen Award. Philipsen had tried to win the award
twice before and he finally succeeded with the present
work. The owner of Scheelenborg, Christian JuelBrockdorff, Baron, became Philipsen's friend and his
Patron, which proved to be of great importance to Philipsen.

Bruun Rasmussen
vinder pris...
the art"-løsning ...
... Kampagnen har været ekstremt
målrettet og rammer plet."

§ 1. Budgivning
budgivningen.
For at kunne byde på online auktioner kræves forudgående
registrering af byders betalingskort- / kreditkortoplysninger.
§ 2. Betaling
oplyse deres SE-/CVR-nr. (moms-nr.), da dette skal anføres på de
fakturaer, hvor varen købes i fuld moms.
For visse udenlandske købere gælder der særlige regler for
afgiftsfritagelse jvf. § 4.
at overstige forfalden gæld.
godkendt speditør, fritages for afgift.
§ 5. Afgiftsbetaling
BRUUN RASMUSSEN bredgade AUcTION 801
§ 6. Udlevering
§ 8. Kunstnerafgift til Copy-Da n
CD
som ville have været uforholdsmæssigt omkostningskrævende
eller uigennemførlige uden beskadigelse af den pågældende
effekt.
omstændigheder kan gøre noget krav gældende over for Bruun

opnåede pris, hvilket betyder at købet bliver hævet for køber.
BRUUN RASMUSSEN bredgade AUcTION 801
KOMMISSIONER
givne oplysninger ikke kan gøres til genstand for reklamationer;
her henvises til beskrivelsen.
FRITAGELSE FOR DANSK FULDMOMS

§ 1. Bidding
The buyer shall be the highest bidder at the “hammer price”. Any
person bidding on behalf of a third party shall be liable in surety
for completion of the sale.
At the request of Bruun Rasmussen Kunstauktioner (hereinafter
called Bruun Rasmussen), all bidders, whether they wish to make
bids in person at the place of auction or commission bids by letter or fax or direct telephone bids, should be able to document
their ability to pay and be able to provide proof of identity at
any time. Bruun Rasmussen is entitled to refuse to accept a bid
if, when requested, adequate security or adequate payment on
account has not been rendered.
Bids should be made by the bidder in person at the place of auction or by written commission. Telephone bidding is possible
within certain conditions made out by Bruun Rasmussen. Bruun
Rasmussen is not to be held responsible for any errors that may
occur using this service. The auctioneer shall have absolute discretion as to the increment of the bids. The auctioneer will also
make decisions in all cases of doubt regarding the bidding
Credit/debit card information must be registered with Bruun
Rasmussen before bids can be submitted at our online auctions.
§ 2. Payment
The purchase price is the hammer price plus 30% in buyer’s premium, including VAT, for lots sold subject to the special VAT
scheme for sales of Works of Art, Collectors’ items and Antiques,
and secondhand goods by Public Auction (hereinafter called Special VAT).
Certain lots are sold in accordance with specific rules on normal VAT arrangement (hereinafter called normal VAT), so that
the purchase price is the hammer price plus an additional 24%
in buyer’s premium and VAT of 25% levied on both the hammer
price and the buyer’s premium. The lots subject to Full VAT are
indicated as such in the catalogue with an asterix (*).
Danish VAT registered buyers shall provide Bruun Rasmussen
with documentation of their SE-/CVR-number (VAT No.) as this
has to be quoted on the invoice for goods bought at full VAT.
For some foreign buyers, specific VAT-exemption rules apply (cf.
Article 3). VAT-exemption does not apply to private buyers from
the EU who are considered as Danish buyers (cf. current Danish
legislation on Special VAT Scheme for Sales of Works of Art,
Collectors’ items and Antiques by Public Auction).
The purchase price falls due for payment when the goods have
been knocked down. Payment may be made in cash up to DKK
100,000, by Dankort, banker’s cheque, traveller’s cheque, Visa-,
Master-, Diners Club- or Eurocard. Personal foreign cheques may
only be used for payment by prior arrangement.
Payment may be made during or immediately after the auction.
Under all circumstances payment must be made no later than
eight days from the date of the invoice. With online auctions,
payment takes place when the items are prepared for dispatch
(circa 12 hours after the purchase has been made) using the
banking details (credit/debit card and bank account) submitted by the purchaser. At the same time an invoice and dispatch
information will be sent to the purchaser.
Should the purchase price not be paid by the due date, interest
at 1.5 % per new month will be charged.
If the purchase price and interest are not paid within eight
days after Bruun Rasmussen has sent its demand to the buyer,
Bruun Rasmussen shall be entitled to rescind the sale and resell
the goods at a Bruun Rasmussen auction or privately, and to
demand reimbursement of any related losses from the defaulting
buyer. Any further profit on the sale shall be payable to the person who had deposited the goods for sale by auction.
If the defaulting buyer is entitled to proceeds from a sale of goods
by Bruun Rasmussen, Bruun Rasmussen shall be entitled to set off
its receivables against its payables to the defaulting buyer.
If the defaulting buyer has deposited other goods for sale,
Bruun Rasmussen shall be entitled to sell such goods at a Bruun
Rasmussen auction without being bound by the reserve stipu-
516
lated by the defaulting buyer. The defautling buyer shall not be
entitled to demand the surrender of goods deposited for sale as
long as the debt payable to Bruun Rasmussen has not been discharged, regardless of whether the value of such goods may be
deemed to exceed the debt payable.
Bruun Rasmussen shall be entitled to refuse a bid made by a
buyer who is in default in respect to his payment obligations
to Bruun Rasmussen, as well as a bid made by a third party on
behalf of such a defaulting buyer. Bruun Rasmussen shall further
be entitled to demand a deposit as a condition of accepting any
future bids from such a purchaser.
§ 3. Money-back guarantee
Online purchase of items by private individuals is subject to Danish
consumer law, which extends 14 days of money-back guarantee.
The purchaser is liable for any costs related to the transport of
returned items.
Should a purchaser seek to avail himself or herself of the moneyback guarantee, Bruun Rasmussen will refund the payment on
receiving the returned items. Please note that the date on which
accounts are debited is subject to the policy of the purchaser’s
bank/credit card company.
§ 4. Exemption from VAT
Foreign buyers who fulfil the conditions stated below shall pay
20% of the hammer price in buyer’s premium and shall not be
subject to Danish taxes and duties:
A. Buyers residing in another EU Member State:
Buyers are exempt from paying Danish VAT as long as they
have provided Bruun Rasmussen with documentation of their
VAT registration. The VAT number will then be quoted on
Bruun Rasmussen’s invoice.
B. Buyers residing outside the EU:
1Dispatch through forwarding agent: Lots exported through a
forwarding agent approved by Bruun Rasmussen are exempt
from VAT.
2 Export as personal luggage: Goods may be exempt from
Danish VAT when the buyer personally takes the goods out
of the country as luggage, provided the following conditions
have been met:
The invoice must have been paid and the Danish duty of 25%
of the invoice amount must have been deposited with Bruun
Rasmussen.
a Buyers residing in Norway will be refunded the Danish VAT
as soon as the invoice of sale has been returned to Bruun
Rasmussen endorsed by the customs authorities of the country in question or by any other authority with jurisdiction
over matters of purchase tax with respect to official imports
of goods into the country in question if the purchase price
exceeds DKK 1,200.
b Buyers residing in other countries outside the EU will be
refunded the Danish VAT after the goods have been presented for customs clearance in connection with the departure of the buyer from the EU. The exporter’s form should be
returned to Bruun Rasmussen after being endorsed with the
customs authorities’ export certificate if the purchase price
exceeds DKK 300 This also applies to the Faroe Islands and
Greenland.
§ 5. Payment of taxes and duties
A. Buyers with VAT-registration in other EU member states who
do not wish to make use of Article 3 may instead choose to
purchase items subject to Special VAT/Normal VAT in the
same manner as private buyers. Bruun Rasmussen must be
notified of this before 10 a.m. on the following auction day.
B. Buyers with VAT-registration in Denmark may choose to purchase subject to Normal VAT at 25% of the hammer price
plus premium. Bruun Rasmussen must be notified of this
before 10 a.m. on the following auction day.
BRUUN RASMUSSEN bredgade AUcTION 801
§ 6. Collection of purchases
The purchase price must be paid in full before the purchased lot
can be passed over to the buyer. From the time of the lot being
knocked down to the buyer, until its collection, the purchased lot
will be held at the buyer’s own expense and risk.
A storage fee will be charged for lots which have not been collected
within 14 days after the time of the lot being knocked down. Goods
which have been paid for but not collected within 1 year will be
resold at auction or privately at the buyer's expense.
§ 7. Dispatch
Should Bruun Rasmussen undertake the packaging and for
warding of purchased goods, this shall be done at the buyer’s
own expense and risk. Bruun Rasmussen shall thus not be held
liable neither for any damage caused to purchased goods during
dispatch nor for any missing consignments.
§ 7. Droit de Suite
Pursuant to current Danish legislation on Copyright, an artistic
royalty shall be collected on works of modern art by all Danish and
some foreign artists. Bruun Rasmussen will from the buyer collect
the royalties required on behalf of the artists’ organisation CopyDan for any work of art subject to this law. These works are identified in the catalogue by CD for Copy-Dan, marked beside each
relevant lot number.
The artistic royalty will be calculated as follows for each work of art,
when the hammerprice exceeds DKK 1,802:
• 5% of the part of the hammerprice ranging from DKK 0 to
DKK 300,472 plus the buyer’s premium (24% excl. VAT)
• 3% of the part of the hammerprice ranging from DKK 300,472
to DKK 1,201,887 plus the buyer’s premium (24% excl. VAT)
• 1% of the part of the hammerprice ranging from DKK
1,201,887 to DKK 2,103,302 plus the buyer’s premium (24%
excl. VAT)
• 0.5% of the part of the hammerprice ranging from DKK
2,103,302 to DKK 3,004,718 plus the buyer’s premium (24%
excl. VAT)
• 0.25% of the part of the hammerprice lying above DKK
3,004,718 plus the buyer’s premium (24% excl. VAT)
The artistic royalty cannot exceed DKK 93,146 for each work of art.
§ 9. Export licence
Applications for an export licence must be made to the Danish
Cultural Assets Committee when required in accordance with
current Danish legislation on the protection and preservation of
cultural assets in Denmark. Where such a licence has not been
obtained, the foreign buyer will be informed thereof immediately after the lot has been knocked down to the buyer. Anot
her application will subsequently be sent to the Danish Cultural
Assets Committee by Bruun Rasmussen on behalf of the buyer,
now that the price is known. Should an export licence not be
granted, the Danish Cultural Assets Committee would be obliged
to acquire the purchased lot at the purchase price, and the buyer
would thus not be bound to the purchase.
§ 10. Cataloguing
All lots are sold in the condition in which they are found when
knocked down and as described in the catalogue with subse
quently published changes and modifications. Cataloguing is
done according to the best of Bruun Rasmussen’s knowledge
and on the cataloguing principles stated.
The lots auctioned are often of some age or of a kind which
makes it possible that they may contain defects, deficiencies, or
may have been subject to restoration or damage not necessarily
stated in the catalogue. Catalogue pictures are for identification
only and cannot be used for an evaluation of the condition of
the goods.
Any person who wishes to bid at an auction should therefore
sa-tisfy himself of the condition of the lots for which he intends
to bid by personal inspection at the preview held prior to the
auction. The catalogue description is an indication of the prevai
ling oppinion of scholars and expert at the time of the printing
of the catalogue. If any doubts should arise after the purchase
regarding the genuineness of the purchased lot or its confor
mance with the catalogue description, Bruun Rasmussen should
immediately be informed thereof.
Should the purchased lot be proved to be a forgery, or if the
catalogue description contains material errors which lead to
a considerably higher hammer price than that which a correct
catalogue description would presumably result in, the buyer shall
be entitled to cancel the purchase, after which the buyer shall
be reimbursed for the total purchase price paid plus buyer's premium and VAT, when applicable.
For material errors in the catalogue description in respect to
measurements or weight, compensation shall only be paid on a
percentage basis in proportion to the difference.
The right of cancellation of a purchase in pursuance of the
present conditions can only be exercised by the party who has
bought the lot in question at Bruun Rasmussen and shall be subject to the presentation of a claim for cancellation in writing to
Bruun Rasmussen within 2 years of the purchase date and to the
purchased lot being returned to Bruun Rasmussen in the same
condition in any and all respects which the purchased lot was in
at the time of the lot being knocked down to the buyer.
In the event of cancellation the buyer shall not be entitled to
claim payment of interest on the purchase price nor shall the
buyer be entitled to claim compensation for any other expenses
or loss incurred, including any possible loss of profit in connection with reselling.
It shall not be possible to state cancellation of a purchase in
pursuance of the above provisions if:
a the catalogue description on the day the lot was knocked
down to the buyer was in accordance with the then generally
accepted opinion of scholars and experts;
b the only way of establishing whether the lot was a forgery
at the time of the publication of the catalogue was the
implementation of scientific processes, the validity of which
was only acknowledged after the time of publication of the
catalogue, or which would have required a disproportionate
amount of cost, or which would have been impossible to carry out without damaging the lot in question.
In addition to the time-limits stated above, all purchases are
subject to the Statute of Limitations stipulated by Danish law
by which Bruun Rasmussen is under no circumstance liable for
purchases after 5 years from the date of purchase.

Jørgen Byriel, officially appointed external supervisor
COMMISSION
Bruun Rasmussen undertakes to execute commission bids for
bidders who are unable to be present at the auction. It is a
prerequisite that Bruun Rasmussen receives the commission
24 hours before the start of the auction for the bidders’ credit
to be checked, if necessary. Bruun Rasmussen is not to be held
responsible for any errors that may occur using this service.
CONDITION REPORTS
Bruun Rasmussen undertakes to provide further information
about the state and condition of the lots if possible. This is
regarded as a service for customers who are unable to make a
personal inspection of the lots at the preview. Bruun Rasmussen
stresses that the information given cannot be used as the basis
for complaints; complaints can only be based on the catalogue
text.
Exemption FROM VAT
Buyers shall, according to § 2, pay full VAT on lots marked with
an asterix *.
No Danish VAT is to be paid when VAT registered companies
from other EU countries buy at Bruun Rasmussen and resell
to private buyers, The private buyer then only has to pay VAT
according to the rules in force in the country where the foreign
company is VAT registered. For further information please consult your local authorities.
The above is an English translation of the Danish version of the Conditions of Purchase. In case of dispute, only the Danish version of the present Conditions of Purchase of Bruun Rasmussen is valid.

For the conversion from DKK into Euro,
Bruun Rasmussen has used the official rate

30% AUCTIONEERS’ MARGIN SCHEME
1. januar 1995 trådte nye love i kraft i EU vedrørende
As of 1 January 1995 new EC regulations came into
effect regarding the sale of secondhand goods, works of
art, collector’s items and antiques; these items may now
be traded under the Auctioneers’ Margin Scheme.
pris. I auktionsomkostninger er indregnet ikke fradragsberettiget moms.
Under the Auctioneers’ Margin Scheme the premium
only is subject to VAT, i.e. the hammer price is exempted
from VAT. The buyer’s premium of 25% will thus henceforth include non-refundable VAT.

1.Danish VAT registered buyers may choose to pay
the 24% buyer’s premium + 25% VAT on the total
amount (Full VAT). The buyer may have the total VAT
refunded and thus pays 24% in buyer’s premium only.

2. VAT registered buyers in other EU countries may
avoid Danish VAT by using their VAT registration
number and thereby pay a buyer’s premium of 24%

i hammerslag.
ninger.
Angiv katalognummer.
Angiv beløbet De ønsker at byde.
“Max” i kolonnen.
auktionens start.

It is possible to leave commission bids if you can not be
present at the auction yourself. This service is free of
charge.
When leaving a commission bid, you are instructing our
customer service to bid up to a specified amount on your
behalf.
The situation can occur that another buyer has already
bid the same as you were prepared to. Are you then willing to bid further? If not the lot will be sold to another
buyer.
If you do not wish to exceed your bid then write “Max",
for maximum, next to the amount. You can also allow us
to raise your bid by approx. 15% or approx 25%.
The hammer price may be higher or lower than the estima
ted price, so it is possible to buy below the estimate.
Bruun Rasmussen will always buy at the lowest price possible, as if you yourself had been present at the auction.
All commission bids are strictly confidential.
Commission bids must be submitted no later than 24
hours prior to the start of the auction.
How to make a commission bid:
Complete the commission form with all pertinent
information.
Indicate the lot number.
Indicate the amount you are prepared to bid.
Should this amount be the absolute maximum, please
write “Max” in the appropriate column.
You can also allow us to bid by up to approx. 15% or
approx. 25% more by indicating so.
Sign the commission form and make sure that Bruun Ras
mussen receives it 24 hours prior to the start of the auction.
If the information should be insufficient, Bruun Rasmussen can abstain from bidding. Bruun Rasmussen can not
be held responsible for error in bidding or failure to execute bids.
