Tech Tip: Conversion 6V to 12V
We recommend that virtually any vintage scooter rider who would regularly
like to use his vehicle without a breakdown converts the on-board electronics from 6 V to 12 V. Firstly, the convincing advantages compared to the 6V
breaker ignition of the old Vespas are firstly wear-free characteristics and
therefore greater reliability. The high-voltage ensures a considerably better
light output and thus more comfort and safety. The supply of replacement
parts is considerably easier and time-consuming and expensive service intervals become a thing of the past. Adjustable ignitions such as Parmakit or Ves-
patronic ensure a cooler combustion with their variable ignition timing and
greater torque, both of which are well appreciated for touring scooters or
tuned vehicles. There are 2 different starting positions for conversion requiring different outlay for the installation. We offer the matching conversion
wiring looms so that conversion can be carried out without any problems
and with a reasonable outlay by any practised DIY-er.
An engine with an electronic ignition should be installed in an old
Vespa, e.g. a. Vespa PX 200 engine in a Vespa VBB.
An old Vespa should be converted with the original engine or an
engine without ignition parts to electronic ignition. For this, there is a choice between VESPATRONIC and PARMAKIT.
Required products - existing ignition:
• PX engine with stator plate, flywheel and electronic unit
(e.g. used)
• Voltage regulator part no 16163900
• Brake light switch “shutter“ e.g. part no 18163700
• All bulbs / festoon bulbs in 12V
• Conversion wiring loom SERIES PRO, e.g. part no 8613400
In addition to the brake light switch, the horn which must also be changed from “opener“ to “shutter“. We have prefabricated light switches
with a “shutter“ horn for many models such as part no. 6009290. But no
great effort is needed for the retrofitting of the existing light switch either. Bend both lateral contact latches from the horn switch up, allow the
horn contact to slip and bend down the contacts again – and you’re done!

PARMAKIT / VESPATRONIC required products:
• PARMAKIT / VESPATRONIC ignition complete including stator plate,
flywheel, CDI, voltage regulator e.g. part no 75043220
• Brake light switch “shutter” e.g. part no 18163700
• All bulbs / soffits in 12V
• PARMAKIT conversion wiring loom, e.g. part no 86135251
