SPECIAL COLLECTION
FOR PERSECUTED CHRISTIANS
The number of persecuted Christians in the world has
topped a staggering 100 million according to a recent
report from Open Doors USA, an organization that assists persecuted Christians. Paying homage recently
to the courage of the Apostles and that of the first
Christian community, Pope Francis referenced the
“atrocious, inhuman and incomprehensible persecutions, sadly present in many parts of the world today,
often under the silent gaze of all”. Bishop Murphy
urges us to reach out and protect these victims who
are suffering, who are so often the targets of violence
and murder, and other ethnic and religious minorities. To that end, a special collection will be taken up
in our parish the weekend of August 1-2, 2015 to assist those who are suffering religious persecution in
Syria and Iraq and wherever needed. Please continue
to pray for peace and if you are able, to support this
special collection to assist for our brothers and sisters
in Christ.

OUTREACH CENTER
The Bible tells us that God provided it for Moses and
the Israelites during the Exodus with manna, or bread
from heaven. Whatever its precise nature was, and
there are several scientific theories about it, it
appeared in the path of the Israelites and sustained
them on their journey.
Have you ever seen manna? We have. Yes, we have
seen manna in Copiague! Several OLA Knights of
Columbus angels volunteer their time, gas and car
wear and tear to tirelessly pick up and deliver donated
Stop & Shop bakery goods to several places in need in
our community, including our Outreach Center. When
we can provide a cake or a loaf of bread to a mother
for her children, and we see the smile it brings to her
face to have something to sustain her family, or even
be a special treat, yes we say: this is truly manna from
heaven. God provides!
Pantry needs this week are: toilet paper, peanut
butter, jelly, dried cereal, Crayola crayons, B&W
Composition notebooks and pocket folders.
EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS are needed to visit and
bring communion to our homebound parishioners.
Current Eucharistic Ministers who would like to visit
the sick and the homebound or those parishioners
who would like to become an Eucharistic Minister
and be a part of this vital ministry, please contact
Deacon Mike at the Rectory (ext.30).

heaven. If anyone eats this bread, they shall live
forever, the bread I will give is my flesh, for the life

Registering for the First Time: Parents of students
MUST bring both the birth and baptismal certificates
of their children. If the child has already received First
Communion, the parent must also bring proof of this.
All of these requirements apply even if the
sacraments were received in this parish. They do
not apply to students who are re-registering.
NOTE: Parents of students advancing to Grade 7,
8 or Prep 6 will register in the summer, but must
return in September to meet with the Religious Ed
Director to receive Confirmation Requirement
forms and information. These interviews are
mandatory; students in these grades cannot begin
classes unless their parents have met with the
director.
Tuition must be paid at the time of registration. The
tuition fee for the school year 2015-2016 will be the
same as last year.

COLECTA ESPECIAL POR LOS
CRISTIANOS PERSEGUIDOS
El número de Cristianos perseguidos en el mundo ha alcanzado la
asombrosa cantidad de 100 millones según un informe reciente de
“Puertas Abiertas de USA”, una organización que ayuda a Cristianos
perseguidos. Recientemente el Papa Francisco, dando homenaje al
coraje de los Apóstoles y al de la primera comunidad Cristiana, se refirió
a “las persecuciones como horrorosas, inhumanas e incomprensibles,
tristemente presente hoy en muchas partes del mundo, y a menudo bajo
la mirada silenciosa de todos” El obispo Murphy nos incita a extender
la mano y proteger a estas victimas que sufren, quienes son a menudo
objetivos de violencia y asesinato, junto a otras minorías étnicas y
religiosas. Por tal razón, el fin de semana del 1-2 de Agosto se tomará
una segunda colecta para apoyar a todos aquellos que están sufriendo
persecución religiosa en Siria e Irak, y en donde estos fondos sean
necesitados.
Por favor continue orando por la paz, y si le es posible, apoye esta
colecta especial para ayudar a nuestros hermanos y hermanas en Cristo.

Według raportu organizacji wspierającej chrześcijan
prześladowanych na całym świecie (Open Door USA)
liczba prześladowanych chrześcijan wynosi obecnie
100 milionów. Oddając hołd odwadze Apostołów oraz
odwadze wspólnoty pierwszych chrześcijan, Papież
Franciszek odniósł się niedawno do “strasznych, nieludzkich i niewytłumaczalnych prześladowań , które
niestety nadal mają miejsce w wielu częściach świata,
często na oczach i przy milczeniu wszystkich". Biskup
Murphy zachęca nas, abyśmy docierali to tych ofiar i
bronili ich, gdyż często stają się one celami przemocy
i mordu, podobnie jak mniejszości etniczne oraz religijne. Specjalna kolekta w naszej parafii będzie
przeprowadzona w weekend 1-2 sierpnia. Dochód z
niej zostanie przeznaczony na wsparcie cierpiących z
powodu prześladowan religijnych w Syrii i Iraku i wszędzie tam, gdzie jest to potrzebne. Prosimy Was o dalszą modlitwę o pokój i jeżeli jesteście w stanie, to również o wsparcie naszych braci i oraz siostry w Chrystusie poprzez udział w kolekcie .

PROGRAM EDUKACJI RELIGIJNEJ
Nasz program pilnie potrzebuje nauczycieli katechezy na najbliższy rok szkolny. Potrzebni są także asystenci nauczycieli, osoby pilnujące porządku na korytarzach (hall monitors) oraz nauczyciele na zastępstwa
do wszystkich klas. Prosimy Państwa o rozważenie
możliwości poświęcenia swojego czasu i talentów na
przygotowanie naszych dzieci do przyjęcia sakramentów oraz na przekazanie im wiedzy na temat naszej
wiary katolickiej. Nauczyciel katechezy nie musi być
osobą, która studiowała teologię oraz Pismo Święte lub
która jest doświadczonym nauczycielem.
Otrzymają Państwo szczegółowe plany zajęć oraz
wszystkie potrzebne materiały. Jeżeli zostaną Państwo
nauczycielami katechezy, będzie to oznaczało, że
odpowiedzieli Państwo na Boże wezwanie. Podejmą

I AM THE BREAD OF LIFE
The readings for this week continue the
theme of God feeding his people, but today we
enter the heart of the matter. Last week Elisha
feed the Israelites, and Jesus fed the crowd with
five barley loaves and two fish.
This week, God feeds the Jewish people
with manna in the desert. This was not food that
they recognized, and so they asked “What is
this?” And Moses replied “This is the bread that
the Lord has given you to eat”. Finally in the
Gospel when the crowd asks Jesus to give them
this bread that comes down from heaven, He
tells them “I AM THE BREAD OF LIFE”. We know
that this statement caused many of Jesus’
disciples to leave him.
Our belief that Jesus meant what he said
is what differentiates Catholics from most nonCatholic Christians. For many the Eucharistic
bread is only a symbol of Christ. We believe that
the Consecrated Eucharistic Bread is the true
body, blood, soul and divinity of Jesus Christ. If
we do not believe this, we are not truly Catholic.
