Customer Service Does Matter
Did you know the number one reason people continue to shop with a business is because the business
has quality customer service? The number one reason businesses close is because of poor customer service.
Customer service does matter and this is why the Chamber puts a lot of effort in to making sure our members offer quality customer service. That’s why we offer PRIDE Training. We want your business to be successful. Please sign up your employees for our next training on how to offer quality customer service to be
held on Thursday, March 26, from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at the Chamber office. The training and lunch are
offered to our members at no cost. We have limited seating so you must RSVP by phoning 765-4400. Call the
Chamber today to reserve a seat!

International Chamber Executive!
The Ponca City Area Chamber of Commerce will host another international Chamber
executive in April. This exchange program is a project of the U.S. Chamber. This is the 3 rd
time Ponca City has been asked to host an international Chamber executive. The other two
executives we have hosted have been from Zimbabwe and Serbia. This time our Chamber will
host Moges Bekele with the Ethiopian National Chamber of Commerce. Moges has a B.A. in
Political Science and International Relations from Addis Ababa University. He is currently
working on his BED in Civics and Ethical Education. Moges’s career includes: Ministry of
Science and Technology as Protocol and Liaison Officer; International Relations and
Cooperation Department as Higher Officer of Technical Support of Cooperation; and since
May 2014 he has been working with the Ethiopian Chamber of Commerce and Sectorial
Associations as Public Relations and Protocol Officer. He has responsibilities with media
activities, is the liaison from the Chamber with external entities, and supports events to be
conducted by the Chamber. Moges enjoys working with people, listening to music and playing
musical instruments. He is very excited about this opportunity to visit Ponca City and learn
ideas and new projects from our Chamber.

Oklahoma Scholar Program
The Education and Workforce Development Committee of the Ponca City Area Chamber of Commerce will
present the importance of getting a high school diploma to all East 8 th Grade students on Wednesday, March
25th. This program, called the Oklahoma Scholars Program, shows the importance of doing well in high school
and getting your high school diploma. The program shows how much having a high school diploma can help
with the rest of your life. In the program, we show, on average, what an individual can expect to make at
different levels of education as well as what the cost of living, on average, is in Ponca City. This is an important
effort by the Chamber of Commerce to lower the dropout rate in Ponca City and show the importance of a high
school degree. This is the 9th year the Chamber has offered this program to 8th graders.
Ponca City Day at the State Capitol
Ponca City Day at the State Capitol is Wednesday, May 6 from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. on the 4th Floor Rotunda. We
are inviting our tourist attractions to have a table and promote their attraction. Please contact Austin Unruh if
you would like to participate. This day really makes a huge impact on the Capitol and helps Ponca City in so
many ways. Not only do we fill the 4th Floor Rotunda with our attractions, we visit every office in the Capitol
and give them our Ponca City Visitors Guide and a sample bottle of Head Country BBQ.
Seeking Summer Activities for Kids
Smart Start Kay County is joining forces with members of the United Way of Ponca City, Ponca City Chamber of
Commerce and Phillips66 to prepare a publication promoting summer activities and services that will be
available for young children and youth in our area. Copies of this publication will be sent home with Ponca City
students near the end of this school year. Electronic and paper copies of this publication will be made available
to families in surrounding communities.
There is no charge for organizations, businesses, agencies, churches, schools, etc. to submit information for
this publication. If you are planning summer activities, services or assistance of any type for families of children
under 18 please e-mail details to Dianna Gemmill, Summer Guide Coordinator, no later than March 20th to
[email protected]
In addition to describing the service or activity you will offer, please include details such as the age group you
will serve, fees that apply, dates, and times. Also include contact information for parents who have further
questions. If you don’t have all the final details, send what you do have. An opportunity for proofing and
editing is possible before printing.
Smart Start Kay County is an agency of United Way of Ponca City and supports families in their efforts to raise
children who are safe, healthy, eager to learn, and ready to succeed in school. Safe, educational and fun summer
activities for young children and youth are an important factor in meeting this goal, said Lilly Freeman, Smart
Start Kay County Coordinator.
Questions about this publication, may be directed to Dianna Gemmill at the email address listed above or by
calling the United Way of Ponca City, 580-765-2476.
