Celebration Community Development District
The Celebration CDD (“District”) is very excited to announce it
has started construction on its new facility at 313 Campus Street,
located behind the West Osceola Branch Library. At a groundbreaking
ceremony held May 19 at 6:30 p.m., the Board of Supervisors officially
kicked off the construction project and celebrated the culmination
of years of discussion and recent months of intensive design and
planning.
The District selected Mr. Danny
Bumpus of Bumpus and Associates,
Inc. as its Architect after a formal
request for qualification process.
Mr. Bumpus has worked alongside
the District’s Engineer, Mr. Mark
Vincutonis of Hanson, Walter &
Associates, Inc. and Supervisor
Floyd McCollum, who is a Registered
Architect, as well as the District’s
Attorney, Mr. Michael Candiotti, the
District’s Manager, Mr. Gary Moyer,
and the District’s Field Manager,
Mr. Brian Smith. Through a public
bidding process, the District awarded
the construction contract to Arnco
Construction Inc., which has started
work on the facility. Construction is expected to be complete the end
of December 2015.
This new facility will include offices for all of the staff, including the
Enterprise CDD utility staff and customer service, as well as warehouse
space for the field staff to perform its various activities, such as
carpentry and painting. As a testament to the District’s commitment
to build an environmentally friendly
and sustainable facility, the project
goal is to be certified by the Florida
Green Building Coalition. Another
significant feature of the facility is
the large meeting room where the
District will begin holding its Board
meetings upon completion, and when
not in use, will be available for use
by non-profit organizations.

CeleService now available for download
Celebration Town Hall has announced that its
new application, CeleService, is now available
for download on Apple and Android devices.
Here’s how it works:
CeleService, the official app for Celebration,
Florida, allows users to directly submit service
requests (irrigation issue, potholes, light
repairs, dangerous conditions, park or
playground conditions, etc.), where it will be
instantly routed to the correct administrator
in the appropriate department. This means
your service requests will be responded to
quickly and efficiently, and you'll be notified
the instant they are resolved. The CeleService
application allows users to submit issues
quickly and efficiently, communicate directly
with parties handling submitted requests,
stay in the loop on breaking news important
to the community via push notifications,
access community calendar and get answers
to frequently asked questions.
2. Submit a service request and even attach
a photo.
1. See something that needs to be fixed?
3. Celebration Staff receive the request and fix
the problem!
4. You get notified when the service request is
completed.
For questions regarding CeleService, please
stop by Town Hall or call us at 407-566-1200.
Town Hall staff members will also be
available to answer questions and provide
a demonstration of the App during
July’s Food Truck Friday on July 10.

Celebration Youth Soccer scores
with community
By Michael Harford, District 1 County Commissioner
Central Florida is crazy about soccer.
Youth soccer has been popular for years. And back in the 1990s,
Osceola County played a part in the World Cup when the 1994
Moroccan World Cup Team practiced at Austin Tindall Park for
matches at the Citrus Bowl.
In Celebration, Celebration Youth Soccer has been in operation
for many years and offers youngsters the chance to play organized
recreational soccer on Saturdays during the Spring and Fall seasons.
AS WE GET into the hot days of the
summer to celebrate the 4th of July
and other outdoor activities with
families and friends, it is important
to be aware of the potential for
heat-related illnesses, such as heat
exhaustion and dehydration.
To avoid becoming dehydrated,
drink plenty of fluids, especially
water, even if you don’t feel thirsty.
Michael Harford
Geoff Worth, a professional youth
soccer coach from England was asked
to take on the task of providing soccer
coaching to improve the standard of
play – and therefore the enjoyment
of playing.
So through his Celebration Soccer
Academy and the help of the CYS
Board, Celebration FC was created to
offer the chance of players competing
at a higher level and playing in travel
tournaments against teams from different areas of Florida.
Initially, Worth was happy to subject
the teams to possibly better, more
established clubs just for the
experience alone. However, it was
not long before Celebration FC
began to show that all the hard work,
training and coaching was going to
show benefits sooner rather than later. Celebration F.C. displaying the 5 winners trophies won in the last twelve months.
The U14 team was entered into
the Orlando City Memorial Day
tournament and after some great
battles came away with the winners’
trophy, having beaten Orlando City
youth in the final.
Since then there has been emergence
of a U12 team with the same coaching
application. And it has been successful
in winning all three tournaments
entered, resulting in five winners
trophies out of six entered for the
two squads.
Coaches: Geoff Worth, center, flanked by Jen Lesnick and Lee Moore
Great credit must be given to Lee
Moore and the board for embarking on this venture.
Indeed Moore is a major influence with the teams and along with
new addition Jen Lesnick to assist with the coaching, the future of
Celebration FC looks bright – as does all of soccer in Central Florida.
GOOD NEWS on the tourism front as our “bed tax” collections
topped $5 million in March. That’s the best ever month and
Experience Kissimmee reports that so far the upward trends are
above forecasts for the year.
Warning signs of heat exhaustion include
heavy sweating, paleness, muscle cramps,
tiredness, weakness, dizziness, headache,
nausea or vomiting and fainting. If heat
exhaustion is untreated, it may progress
to heat stroke. If symptoms become more
severe or last longer than one hour, seek
medical attention immediately. If you
suspect you may have heat exhaustion,
take the following cooling measures: drink
cool, non-alcoholic beverages; rest in an
air-conditioned area; take a cool shower,
bath or sponge bath; wear lightweight
clothing.
AND DO remember to look out for children who may be out playing
now that school is out.
I hope you enjoy our area’s outdoor wonders, keep cool and take the
proper precautions to stay healthy this summer.
Please feel free to share any of your concerns, ideas or
information by calling my office at 407-742-2000 or by email
to [email protected].

By Deputy Jerry Weiland, Osceola County Sheriff Office
July is Vehicle Theft Prevention Month. Thankfully auto theft isn’t
a huge problem in Celebration, but this type of crime can occur
anywhere, at any time of day and often when you least expect it.
To raise awareness and to help you and your vehicles stay together,
this month I thought that I would share some facts about auto theft
as well as some prevention tips.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
(NHTSA), a vehicle is stolen in the United States, on average, every
45 seconds. That’s about 700,000 vehicles stolen every year in the U.S.
84% of those vehicles stolen are passenger cars. Costs to the insurance
companies, and ultimately you in the form of rate hikes, are about
4.1 BILLION dollars each year. Crime statistics from NHTSA show
that Florida ranked second behind California for vehicle thefts in
2012. Other states on the list to round out the top 10 are Texas (3),
New York (4), Georgia (5), Illinois (6), New Jersey(7), North Carolina
(8), Ohio (9) and Nevada (10).
Vehicles are stolen for many reasons. Some are taken for their parts.
Older model cars with their parts no longer being made or harder to
get, are often targeted because the parts are worth more money after
being stripped, leaving the “shell” of the car behind. Others are taken
to fulfill “orders” by professional rings. These organized theft rings
ship vehicles overseas or to other states. Sometimes the vehicle is
taken out for a joyride and later recovered with significant damage
or totaled. Some are taken to help commit crimes. We often find
stolen vehicles that were used to ram through the front of a store to
commit a burglary or robbery. Some of the vehicles used in these
crimes are left at the scene or later recovered burned beyond
recognition or dumped into ponds.
A huge number, 40% to 50%, of vehicle thefts are due to “driver error”,
which is a nice way of saying that the vehicles were left unlocked or
with keys in them. I’ve mentioned many times before about how
easy it is to prevent crimes simply by locking your doors.
I put all these statistics in the beginning of my article to hopefully
make people think about losing their cars. Like computers or
smartphones, could you maintain your normal lifestyle without
your vehicles? If your car was burned, stripped or dumped in a pond,
would you really want it back? Most likely your answer to these
questions is a resounding NO. So, what can you do to help prevent
theft of your vehicles? While there is no 100% guarantee, if you
follow these tips, you will greatly reduce your chances of being
a victim of vehicle theft.
Sergeant Fred Hinderman and Detective Phil Shorette of the Osceola County
Sheriff ’s Office recently gave a presentation at Town Hall on social media,
touching on the latest trends and potential dangers that parents should be aware of.
Another presentation will be held in the coming weeks,
keep a look out for the date and time.
• Always take your keys – NEVER leave them in the vehicle,
even for a second.
• Always lock your doors and close your windows.
Also keep the doors locked while driving.
• Try to park in well-lit areas.
• Never leave your vehicle running unattended.
(This is also illegal to do)
• Do not leave valuables easily seen inside your vehicle.
• Protect your vehicle with an anti-theft system
or immobilizer device.
• Consider having the vehicle identification number (VIN)
etched on the windows. Thieves don’t want to lose money
by having to replace all the windows.
• Consider a professionally installed GPS tracking system.
• Don’t keep the vehicle title in the car.
This makes it easier to re-register the car.
• Park in your garage if possible.
Unfortunately even with all these safeguards being followed, if a
professional car thief wants your car, they may take it anyway.
Bad guys have even used tow trucks to take cars away while the car
alarm was blaring. All these tips are deterrents so that the potential
thief will see the extra levels of protection and go somewhere else
to do their crimes.
July happens to be the most active month for vehicle thefts. There are
many factors leading to the rise in vehicle thefts during the summer.
More people are out traveling or attending outdoor activities, often
leaving cars unlocked. Warmer weather allows for more people
roaming about at all hours looking for an easy opportunity.
Teens are also out of school and are
probably bored already with summer
and sometimes look to take cars for
joyrides. Whatever the reasons for the
theft, you have the greatest ability to
help prevent it from occurring.
I found only one vehicle theft reported
to us in the last year in Celebration.
Unfortunately that vehicle was left
unlocked and had the keys left inside.
Please lock up your cars and remember
to learn your “First Five”. That neighbor
you just met may be the person spotting
someone else taking your vehicle.
Please be safe and have a great summer!

by the lifeguards through multiple random unannounced aquatic
facility operational safety audits throughout the year. These
audits include undercover video surveillance of individual
lifeguards while they protect their ‘zone of protection
areas,’ in order to accurately evaluate their professional diligence. Additionally, individual and team
basic life support and rescue skills are evaluated,
along with simulated emergencies that measure
the effectiveness of established Emergency
Action Plans. The audit concludes with administrative, supervisory and facility evaluations.
The Celebration parks and recreation aquatics staff was recently
awarded the “2014 Gold International Aquatic Safety Award,”
by Jeff Ellis & Associates, Inc.
The lifeguards with the parks and recreation department consistently exceeded Ellis & Associates
criteria throughout the year-long review in 2014.
Only aquatic facilities scoring in the top 30%
of the audit criteria received this prestigious
award. Current parks and recreation manager,
Martin Brown, served as the aquatics director
during the review period. “I am extremely
proud of my team and the dedication and
work that they put forth,” stated Brown. “This
is a tremendous honor for our staff and for our
community.”
Jeff Ellis and Associates, founded in 1983, is
based on the aim of eliminating drowning events
through Proactive Aquatic Risk Management.
Ellis and Associates is considered by many to be the
“Gold Standard” within the field of Aquatics Safety.
This is largely due to their continuous accountability testing
procedures and innovative training programs, which are constantly
being improved and amended.
Information for the award was gathered from reviews
(audits) that were performed at Celebration’s aquatic facilities
by Ellis & Associates. The auditors would review performances

Celebration makes a splash
at World’s Largest Lesson
Celebration residents and Summer Breakout campers took
the plunge at Spring Park Pool on Thursday, June 18, as they
joined a global team attempting to set a Guinness World
Record by participating in the World’s Largest Swim Lesson
(WLSL).
109 attendees took part on the local level, as attendees
of our Summer Breakout Camp also joined in the fun.
The 2015 event marked Team WLSL’s sixth Guinness World
Record attempt for the largest swimming lesson ever
conducted. The international team, made up primarily
of kids, worked together to prevent childhood drowning
by participating in a global swim lesson to spread the vital
message Swimming Lessons Save Lives™.
Team WLSL set its fifth Guinness World Record on June 20,
2014 with 36,564 participants from 22 countries.
Since its inception more than 120,000 people have
participated in WLSL lessons generating more than
150 million media impressions.
Swimming is a life-saving skill for children and a vital
tool to prevent drowning, the second leading cause of
unintended, injury-related death for children ages 1-14.
WLSL was created to serve as a platform to help local
community aquatic facilities and the many different
national, regional and state wide water safety and
drowning prevention organizations work together to
tell this important story on a local and national level.

The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation

On Tuesday June 3, representatives from
the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers

memory of a fallen 9/11 firefighter, paid
a special visit to Rick Winner & Carpet

generous support of the Foundation’s
Building for America's Bravest (BFAB)
program.
The BFAB program builds hi-tech “smart
homes” for service members returning
from war who have been catastrophically
injured. Carpet One Floor & Home, and
its manufacturing partner Mohawk, have
committed to providing flooring materials
and installation for 46 of these “smart
homes.” Each store's customers are invited
to share information about the program
with others, and make a personal
contribution at the store site. The goal is
to collect a donation of $10—or more—
from each customer, to ultimately enable Osceola Fire & Sheriff with Mike Fitz
the building of at least two more “smart
homes.”

Healthy mouth, healthy body:
snoring or sleep apnea?
By Christopher Russo, DDS
Many people have taken turns sleeping in the spare bedroom or on
the couch due to a snoring partner. Snoring is most simply the sound
which is made due soft tissue blocking an airway to varying degrees.
While sometimes caused by a temporary condition like allergies or
a cold virus, quite often it is a more serious issue. Simple snoring can
be affected by the position of the head/neck, body weight, alcohol,
or medication.
However, in cases
of obstructive sleep
apnea, (OSA), a
snoring sound is
accompanied by
shallow breaths,
or an actual stoppage
in breathing altogether,
from several seconds
to over a minute.
Obviously, not
breathing repeatedly
over many hours every day is not a
healthy situation. Just the interruption
of the body’s sleep cycle can have
significant effects on one’s life due to
fatigue, decreased alertness, hormone
Christopher Russo, DDS
imbalance, weight gain, and a compromised immune system. But OSA is also linked to a greater risk of
heart problems, cancer,
diabetes, high blood
pressure/stroke, and
even sudden death. If
any of this sounds like
you or a loved one, see
a dentist or a physician
for further evaluation
or treatment; it could
greatly improve the
quality of life, or maybe
even save it.
Half a century of help with Medicare
By Chris Graves, Social Security Manager in Kissimmee, FL
On July 30, 1965, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed Medicare into
law with these words: “No longer will older Americans be denied the
healing miracle of modern medicine. No longer will illness crush and
destroy the savings that they have so carefully put away over a lifetime.”
For 50 years, the Medicare program has provided essential health
care services for millions of people who are age 65 or older, disabled,
or have debilitating diseases. Without Medicare, many people would
not be able to pay for hospital care, doctor’s visits, medical tests,
preventive services, or prescription drugs.
Your Medicare card is the most important piece of identification you
own as a Medicare beneficiary since medical providers will request
it when you seek their services. If you need to replace a lost, stolen,
or damaged Medicare card, you can do it online with a my Social
Security account at www.socialsecurity.gov/myaccount.
Requesting a replacement card through
my Social Security is safe, convenient,
and easy. Going online saves you
a trip to your local Social Security
office or unproductive time on the
phone. Request your replacement
Medicare card the easy and
convenient way — online — and
you’ll get it in the same amount of
time as you would if you applied
in an office or over the phone —
in about 30 days.
Fifty years ago, Medicare didn’t have as many options as it does today.
As the largest public health program in the United States, Medicare includes four parts to keep you covered:
• Part A is insurance that covers inpatient
hospital stays, outpatient care in nursing
facilities, hospice, and home health care.
• Part B includes medical insurance for
doctor’s services, medical supplies,
outpatient care, and preventive services.
• Part C is a Medicare advantage plan that
allows you to choose your health care
coverage through a provider organization.
You must have Part A and Part B to enroll
in Part C. This plan usually includes
Medicare prescription drug coverage
and may include extra benefits and
services at an additional cost.
A recent survey to Medicare beneficiaries asked: Why do you love
Medicare? One person stated, “It gives peace of mind not only for
seniors, but for veterans and disabled as well.” Another satisfied
recipient replied, “I most likely wouldn’t be alive today without
Medicare.” These are just two of the millions who endorse
Medicare’s half-century strong success story.
• Part D is prescription drug coverage.
There is a separate monthly premium
for this plan; however, people with low
resources and income may qualify for the
Extra Help with Medicare prescription
drug costs from Social Security. Visit
www.socialsecurity.gov/prescriptionhelp
to see if you qualify.
For more information about Medicare, visit www.medicare.gov.
As Medicare celebrates 50 years, Social Security commemorates
80 years. Learn more about Social Security’s 80th anniversary at

Servicing Celebration With Pride…
We handle required Celebration ARC applications
A New View
Strike up the band – it’s good for you!
By Eileen Crawford, LMHC
What do lawn chairs, coolers, and a big trombone have in common?
They combine with fireworks, family and friends to define one of
the very best parts of Independence Day. Even before I started
school I knew that the 4th of July meant bicycles on parade and
loud, pounding, joyous patriotic music. To celebrate the greatest
moments in our lives without music would be unfathomable to me.
As Maria von Trapp
herself once observed,
“Music acts like a magic
key, to which the most
tightly closed heart
opens.” And there’s
a woman who should
know!
What is it about music
that makes it, arguably,
the most universal language of all the arts?
Look no further than
your own brain to understand music’s grand power over you. It reduces anxiety, and is often
more effective than medication in doing so. It is highly beneficial
for newborns and premature babies, relaxing them and stimulating
their nursing and bonding with Mom. A Northwestern University
study indicated that participation in
creating music (by singing or playing
an instrument) helps the brain learn to
process language, particularly important
during the elementary school years.
Music literally lights
up the brain. It
stimulates the
amygdala - which
assists in processing
emotion - and the prefrontal cortex –
involved in abstract decision-making.
It ignites activity in the nucleus accumbens,
where dopamine (the brain’s “feel good”
chemical) is released, and where expectations
are formed. Music helps people feel united
by enhancing movement planning, memory
and attention. In short, music is nothing less
than a neurological necessity.
So, as you celebrate life’s big moments, feed your brain.
This Independence Day, when you gather your family and
set up your chair, don’t forget to clap your hands, tap your feet,
and sing your heart out. It’s good for you!

The Celebration Veterans Club hosted its annual Memorial Day
Ceremony on Saturday, May 23 at Founders’ Park. The event serves
as an annual remembrance of the men and women who gave their
lives while serving in the United States Armed Forces.
George Young served as the master of ceremonies for the event, which
included a floral dedication to honor the memories of Jason Burnett,
Michael Licalzi and Matthew Pucino. Bill Pelaia offered up a Memorial
Day message, touching on the need to assist in helping our veterans
adapt following deployment and support for military families. The
Celebration Community Chorus, under the direction of D. Cole
Forehand, provided the musical backdrop for the ceremony, which
included a moving rendition of the national anthem as Forehand
was joined by Ashley Richards and Kelsey Forehand for an a cappella
version.
The semi-annual changing of the flag was handled seamlessly by
Boy Scout Troop 125, Cub Scout Troop 125 and the Girl Scouts.
Pam Smith represented the Garden Club of Celebration, as a patriotic
wreath was placed in the park to honor our veterans. A special thank
you also goes out to all those who assisted in this year’s ceremony,
including Chaplain Gary Garofalo, bugler Kim Lenaway and the
members of the Color Guard.

Scholarship presentation highlights Garden
Club’s end of year luncheon
By Tricia Alesbury
At our spring luncheon in
May, the Garden Club of
Celebration presented our
annual scholarship to
Mayuko Mitzutani, a senior
at Celebration High School.
Garden Club is sponsoring five girls to attend summer camp at
Wekiva Youth Camp. The camp is a residential nature camp for 3rd
through 8th grade students sponsored by the Florida Federation of
Garden Clubs and accredited by the American Camp Association.
The goal of the camp is to instill a love of nature and respect for
REAL Florida in our youth through nature study. We hope they have
a great time!
Lyn Berelsman, Garden Club’s
community advocate, says
that Mayuko was selected
because of her strong academic
achievements and her long
standing passion towards
environmental sciences. She
will be attending the University
of Florida in Gainesville to
study Environmental
Engineering and Global
Communications. She hopes
Lyn Berelsman, community advocate,
her degree will help develop
presenting our scholarship to Mayuko
a way to reduce existing air
Mitzutani
pollution and find alternative
ways for developing countries to
industrialize without damaging the
planet, while preserving a future for
children all around the world who
would like to play outside.
Mayuko scored the highest possible
scores in both the IB and AP
Environmental Systems and
Societies exams. Her science teacher,
Lorie Thuesen, says that Mayuko
challenges her to be a better teacher
by doing some of the best work she
has ever seen in her teaching career.
Garden Club is delighted to be able to sponsor
these girls and we
thank the community
of Celebration for supporting our fund raising events, such as the
Fashion Show and pine
straw sales, which generated the funds to
enable us to do this.
Our work at Give Kids
the World is continuing
and a number of members are volunteering to
weed, prune and tidy
the butterfly garden

throughout the summer. Garden
Club received a vote of thanks for
our efforts in getting the garden
into great shape from Richard
Boturla and Philip Torres from
Give Kids the World at our April
meeting.
Our Garden Club year finished
with a wonderful spring luncheon
at the Melia Hotel, many thanks
to our hospitality chair Judith
Rankine and her team who created such a fun event.
We have a great program planned
for next year; more details will be
forthcoming in future editions of
Celebration News and on our website www.celebrationgardenclub.org. We will be kicking off the year
on September 16 at 9:30 a.m. at Heritage Hall. Membership in the
Garden Club is open to all residents of Celebration, for more details
please contact our membership chair Lorna Sauter at

Hang Gliding in Central Florida
By Willow Michie
Recently, a few members of Celebration Venture Crew 125 participated
in a very unique and extraordinary experience, hang gliding in Central
Florida at the Wallaby Ranch.
Wallaby Ranch is unique within the hang gliding world. Instead of
leaping from a high altitude location to soar through the sky, an
ultra-light plane aero-tows you and your instructor from the ground
up to the correct altitude where it then detaches, allowing you to
begin a slow, graceful decent back to earth.
During a recent visit, all four participants were new to this experience
and were apprehensive, not knowing exactly what to expect. After
spending the morning with the friendly instructors at an amazingly
beautiful property and having a great time flying in the air, we
realized just how incredible this experience truly was.
Each crew member described their time hang gliding as a relaxing,
picturesque trip that gave the feeling of floating. There were no rough
spots that might lead to
motion sickness, only the
sensation of serenely moving
through the sky. Most
importantly, a feeling of
safeness was felt by all four of
us, even when the instructor
gave us control of the hang
glider. There was never a
moment of fear. From the
sky, the view was absolutely stunning
as the ground below us looked like a
model town and you could see farther
than imaginable. A cool feature offered
to all the gliders was the chance to have a GoPro record their flight.
After everyone was finished flying, we all headed over to the Wallaby
Ranch's artisan-style canteen for a brunch that was made from scratch.
The food was absolutely amazing, fresh and unique. The display of
homemade cooking was something you would expect to see on
Pinterest. Not only did the food look delicious, but it tasted even
better. Next to the canteen, there is an area for children to play that
includes a trampoline, shallow pool, and playground.
While talking over brunch, we met an interesting hang gliding fan,
an 80 year old woman. She drives from Tampa monthly and had
put in enough flight time to go up solo. She mentioned that one of
the most amazing things she had experienced while hang gliding,
was flying above a flock of birds.
After experiencing hang gliding and the great brunch, we left
extremely satisfied, and are making plans to return soon with more
of our crew. If you too would like to experience what it is like to
fly with the birds, give Malcolm or Lori a call at Wallaby Ranch
(1-800-Wallaby) or even better, take a ride out and check it out for
yourself. After all, it is only 15 minutes from Celebration in nearby
Davenport. Make sure you drop our name... Celebration Venture
Crew 125. You can visit Wallaby Ranch online at www.wallaby.com.
Thirteen different boys. Some were classmates.
Some were teammates. Some were strangers to
one another. Some were from Brazil or Scotland.
Some were from England or Germany, the United
States or Greece.
They all had one thing in common… soccer.
Brought together by a love for the game and a
desire to compete on an advanced arena, they
were gathered, one by one. A team was born.
The multicultural group with a homegrown spirit
became Celebration United. Their goal: to succeed
on a highly competitive level and represent their
small town in a special way.
You probably notice them on many afternoons,
suited up in half-sized uniform replicas of their
soccer heroes: Messi, Ronaldo, Neymar. The sports
fields of Celebration have seen them run countless
miles. Dribbling, passing, trapping, sprints. They
follow the instruction, not because they have to,
but because they want to. The end-of-practice
scrimmage is greatly anticipated,
almost like a treat for a training
session well done.
Practice never ends at its scheduled time.
Everyone lingers. The boys want to take
more shots on goal; they try out being
goalie. Their idea of fun is even more
practice. The families laugh together
about parenthood, soccer, life. The sun
sets, and all reluctantly leave, but only
because dinner has to be eaten or
homework has to be finished. No one
goes without a hug or a friendly kiss
on the cheek. It’s become a family –
with a big purpose.
Those practices aren’t just for fun
they’re a training ground for excellence –
at statewide U8 soccer tournaments.
Celebration United has traveled distances to Palm Beach, Palm Bay,
Plant City, and Miramar, where the competition is strong. Travel
around Florida is exciting for the boys, but can be costly. As a fully
self-funded team, the families are responsible for all expenses from
transportation, accommodations, and tournament fees to food,
uniforms, and equipment. To help offset some of the costs, the team
held a fundraising car wash in January, which was enthusiastically
embraced by the town. The team also seeks sponsorships and
partnerships with local businesses that can help them reach their
big soccer dreams.
The team recently had the opportunity to play in a tournament in
their own backyard, in Disney's Memorial Day Soccer Shootout at
the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. After a pregame meal at
the Celebration Golf Club’s Windmill Restaurant, the squad made
the short drive over I4 to compete in the event, which included
their first ever night match.
Thirteen different boys, now teammates, friends, brothers.
They are Celebration United.

Democrats set to welcome State
Representative John Cortes
by Stephanie Garber
The Democrats of Celebration remain busy planning for upcoming
elections. The club meets the fourth Wednesday of each month,
January-October, from 7 – 8 p.m. There are no
meetings in November or December. We meet
at Town Hall, 851 Celebration Ave. and individuals are free to attend whether they live in
Celebration or not. There are no dues.
State Representative John Cortes (District 43)
will be the featured speaker at our July 22
meeting. His entire district is in Osceola
County and stretches from Buenaventura
Lakes southward through Kissimmee to
Poinciana. Popular for being “local, vocal
and approachable,” Rep. Cortes welcomes
all to his District office at 231 Ruby Avenue,
Suite A, Kissimmee 34741.
Rep. Cortes challenged Ricardo Rangel in the Democratic primary
in 2014 and in a “major upset,” defeated Rangel, winning 52% of the
vote to Rangel’s 48%.
In the General Election, Cortes raced former
Kissimmee City Commissioner Carlos Irizarry,
by whom he had previously been defeated in
his 2004 city commission campaign. In the
general election, Cortes defeated Irizarry
handily, winning 66% of the vote to Irizarry’s
34%.

On May 31, 2015, Celebration Boy Scout Troop 125 was proud to
present to four of its very own scouts the rank of Eagle Scout.
Connor Fazekas, William Harris, Tyler Seegers and Chase Sigur,
received their rank of Eagle at the Court of Eagle ceremony held at
Celebration Town Hall. Presented with the honor in front of friends,
family, mentors and fellow scouts, these boys bring the number of
scouts in Troop 125 to reach Eagle to 30. As part of their earning the
rank of Eagle, each Boy Scout must create, plan, manage and complete
a Service Project for the community at large. Congratulations to
Connor, William, Tyler and Chase for a job well done!
Interested in joining our ranks? We are waiting to hear from you!
Contact our scoutmaster, Brian Coakley at [email protected].
Eagle Scout Service
1. Approximately 8.13 million hours of service has been reported
in 2014 by Eagle scouts.
2. Almost $300 billion of service was provided by Scouts and
leaders to communities across the United States, $183.3 million
of that was just from Eagle Service projects.
3. The total number of members in scouting since 1910 have
exceeded 104 million.
4. Total number of merit badges earned is 40,029.
5. Total number of individual scouts who earned heroism awards
were 240.

7. 18 current U.S. governors participated in Scouting as a youth
and/or adult volunteer. 4 (22%) are Eagle Scouts.
8. Only 4% of all Scouts meet the requirements necessary to earn
the Eagle Scout rank.
9. Eagle Scouts are 92% more likely than non-Scouts to be active
in environmental protection groups.
10. The average age of an Eagle Scout is 17.1 years old.
The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) is one of the largest youth
organizations in the United States, with 2.7 million youth members
and over one million adult volunteers. Since its founding in 1910 as
part of the international Scout Movement, more than 110 million
Americans have been members of the BSA.
The BSA’s goal is to train youth in responsible citizenship, character
development, and self-reliance through participation in a wide range
of outdoor activities, educational programs, and, at older age levels,
career-oriented programs in partnership with community
organizations. For younger members, the Scout method is part
of the program to inculcate typical Scouting values such as
trustworthiness, good citizenship, and outdoors skills, through
a variety of activities such as camping, aquatics, and hiking.
Eagle Scout Statistics
The Eagle Scouts are comprised of over 2.7 million youth
members and one million volunteers. The following statistics
outlined the current state of Eagle Scouts as according to
Scouting for All resources.

A game so easy a rocket scientist can play it!
By Teddy Benson
When asked about a quick and easy, but different card game to learn
and play, I turned to the uniquely different card game called Fluxx.
In this card game the rules are incredibly simple – you draw a card,
you play a card, sort of. You see, the rules are constantly in, well, in
“flux,” as a card is played, the rules change. This is a fast paced, weird
and silly card game designed by two NASA scientists, and proves
that rocket scientists do have a sense of humor.
and this has all of that and more. In the space theme version it has
an additional card called “creepers”. These cards attach themselves
to other cards, specifically “keeper” cards and change those cards
either by adding or removing abilities or special things that can
occur during the game. They add a whole level of card play since
they can be beneficial, play on your cards, a bane, or play on an
opposing player.
The basic rules are very simple, you get
a card and you play a card. When you
play a card, you can change the rules
currently in play which constantly keep
changing with every played card.
So how do you win you might ask?
You win the game by placing keeper
cards in front of you. But you don't
know which keeper cards are going to
be used to reach the winning goal for
the game as it is constantly changing.
So the keeper cards are worthless until
a goal has been established from a goal
card that has been drawn and played by a player. But don’t get too
attached to this goal, because it could change on someone’s next
turn as they draw and change the rules by playing a new goal.
Does it sound all confusing? Don't worry because in the moment
the rules will change yet again!
This is a quick game to learn, and well, I am not sure if you can
master it – it changes so much. But in the end it is a great group card
game to play. Oh, and I almost forgot! One of the best things about
this game is that you can combine the cards from one of the other
themed sets. This means you could play a game of zombie pirates
Fluxx, or maybe zombie pirates from
outer space on a holiday Fluxx; the
combinations are almost endless!
Now players also have another card that they can play, an action card.
Playing an action card during your turn allows you to do common
and special things that could help you throughout the game. There
is also a surprise card which can be played out of your turn and are
used mainly to, well, from stopping the other player from winning
to generally just mess with them in the game.
Out of all the Fluxx themed card games, (space, pirate, zombie, Oz,
Cthulhu, Monty Python, Regular Show, and Holiday); I have enjoyed
the Space theme the most. Why? Well, I like space, and Sci-Fi,
So pick a copy of Fluxx, available at
Amazon, Wal-Mart and most local
comic stores, and let the card playing
fun commence!
Did you hear? We did an open game
night at the June Food Truck Friday

We will have expert gamers on site to teach and play during the event.

Celebration Church
celebrates 10th
anniversary
By Jim Siegel
Corpus Christi Catholic Church,
Celebration’s largest faith community,
recently celebrated the 10th
anniversary of its founding.
Nearly 800 parishioners packed the Church on June 6 as Orlando
Diocese Bishop John Noonan celebrated an afternoon Mass, after
which attendees mingled over light refreshments reminiscing about
the past ten years and chatting with Bishop Noonan and Pastor
Richard Trout.
In early 2005, then Orlando Bishop Thomas Wenski, in response
to the petitions of a small, vocal group of Celebration residents,
founded the parish. Recalled Father Gregory Parkes, appointed by
Bishop Wenski as the pastor, “We began with nothing, literally
nothing, except faith and a group of very dedicated individuals
who were willing to do whatever it took to start this parish church.
That really brought us together as a parish community.”
Corpus Christi held its initial Saturday evening and Sunday morning
services at the K-8 School cafeteria beginning in May 2005, moved
to the larger high school cafeteria within six months, and within

another year started an active building campaign. Just in time for
Christmas 2009, they moved into their new church building, located
on a 4.3 plot where East, South, and West Villages converge at the
corner of Celebration Avenue and East Lawn Avenue.
When Father Gregory was appointed Bishop of Pensacola-Tallahassee
in 2012, Father Richard Trout succeeded him as pastor. Said Father
Richard at the June 6 Mass, “We thank all the parish members who
have made our parish such a viable and sharing community, but
especially those who helped found and nurture Corpus Christi
during its early years.”

at the Orange Lake Resort.
Organizations receiving checks included Habitat for Humanity of
Osceola County, Celebration 34747 Cares, Fairways for Warriors,
Meals on Wheels, the Celebration Foundation, Johnny Pineyro

By Chandler Cunningham,
Senior Patrol Leader BSA 125
On Behalf of Celebration Boy Scout Troop 125, I would
like to thank the Celebration Foundation for their generous
donation. The grant will be put to good use, helping fund
our annual summer adventure at Camp Woodruff in the
North Georgia Mountains. Summer camp has long been
an integral part of the scouting experience and helps scouts
achieve important merit badges and learn important life
skills in a beneficial environment. This year we intend to
focus on leadership at camp, teaching scouts how to plan
ahead and work with people effectively.
In addition, a portion of the money will go toward scout
scholarships. Sometimes unfortunate events can leave a
scout unable to pay for the typical expenses of scouting.
This donation will help those who need monetary
assistance to continue in scouting unhindered by financial stress,
allowing the individual to participate in summer camp, campouts
and activities we have to offer.
BQ Carpet Cleaning Isn’t Just
About Great Equipment!
Why Use Us:
Our state-of-the-art rotary cleaning system eliminates carpet dirt better than
bi-directional manual extraction methods! Here at BQ Carpet Cleaning,
we make use of a rotary carpet cleaner with high torque motors that rotate
360 degrees to pull up dirt and remove tough stains that traditional manual
wand cleaners miss.
Most of our competitors use bi-directional manual extraction wands
that can only go back and forth, leaving behind more dust and dirt even
after hundreds of cleaning passes. Our rotary cleaners on the other hand,
clean from all directions and require less cleaning passes to remove dirt
in carpeted and upholstered areas. In addition, manual equipment like
bi-directional wands rely much on the strength of the user, as opposed
to rotary cleaners, which have high-power motors that do the job so the
user will not tire easily. Rotary cleaners can also remove tough stains and
deep-seated dirt and grime that most manual cleaners leave behind.
With high-power tools such as our rotary cleaners, we can do the job
better and faster than your typical carpet cleaning service. We do not
only clean your carpets, we restore them like new!
When it comes to choosing a carpet cleaning company, finding the
place with the best equipment won’t necessarily give you the best results.
It takes more than great equipment to properly clean carpets–it takes great
people, too! These complex machines don’t run themselves. That’s why
we hire people who are customer service focused to run our machines,
and then we give them the best training possible so they can take on
any carpet cleaning challenges they might face in your home.
When you bring someone into
your home to clean your carpets,
you want to be sure you are totally comfortable with them. Our employees
are friendly, professional, and they’ll work efficiently to get your carpets
cleaned. Our teams are trained to take care of your home better than if it
was their own. They’ll remove any evidence that they were ever there, with
beautifully restored and spotlessly clean carpets. You’ll appreciate their
service, and want to call us every time that you need your carpets cleaned.
Our goal is to give you such amazing service that you never call a different
carpet cleaning company in Orlando. We want to be your first and only call
for carpet cleaning! Between our fleet of top-of-the-line machinery and the
amazing people running it, we know we can win your business. Give us a call
today or visit our website for a free quote. You’ll be amazed at how affordable

Robert Steuteville, Better! Cities & Towns
Part 2
Reprinted with permission from Better! Cities & Towns
where it first appeared in March 2015
These articles are submitted by the Celebration Foundation’s
New Urbanism Committee to help fulfill their mission to educate
residents about New Urbanism Communities.
The postwar suburbs hold the most potential, especially when
affordability is a paramount concern. Twenty-six million houses
were built from 1946 to 1965, most single-family, according to June
Williamson, coauthor of Retrofitting Suburbia. These early postwar
suburbs were built with mostly connecting streets and fading
commercial strips lying fallow nearby.
Phase 3: New Urbanism is suburban retrofit,
also known as sprawl repair. Planning books
have described this growing trend in considerable detail. New urbanists have been trying
to turn “grayfields” into urban places for a
long time—Mashpee Commons and Mizner
Park are just two of the mixed-use town
centers that have been built on former
suburban shopping malls—a transformation
that got under way in the late 1980s. Sprawl
is vast, however, and such projects are still
isolated and pioneering. Phase 3 will take
the spotlight when automobile-oriented

a much grander scale.
When that happens, sprawl repair will take pressure off historic
neighborhoods. A new supply of walkable places will emerge in
the suburbs.
Parking lots on these strips could
support millions of new residential units.
Phase 3 New Urbanism can revitalize
languishing first-ring suburbs, but first,
multilane arterials must be narrowed,
redesigned, and made walkable. This
outcome still seems hard to imagine,
despite the success of the complete
streets movement. Yet the formidable
transportation industrial complex, the
biggest impediment to Phase 3 New
Urbanism, is showing signs that it will
yield to pressure. Change will come
sooner or later.
The Final Phase
Phase 4 is when we come full circle, and street grids are as normal
as they were 100 years ago. These grids don’t have to be rectangular
like most of the 19th Century grids—they need only be connected,
internally and externally.
The normalization of new street grids may be decades away, but
extensively connected street networks are the natural way to develop
communities, absent the obstruction caused by automobile-oriented
transportation engineering and street policies. The transportation
field must be fully reformed before Phase 4 takes effect. This is why
the techniques that I associate with Phase 3 must come first. Expect
to see early pioneering efforts in reestablishing new street grids that
connect to larger thoroughfare networks.

Phase 4: New Urbanism will not mean an end to drive-only suburbs
any more than the last century meant the eradication of historic cities
and towns. Drive-only suburbs will always be with us—they continue
to grow today due to zoning laws and the infrastructure that supports
the separate-use mode of development.
The New Urbanism is emerging slowly, in phases. We are only part
of the way through a change that will take generations. On a long
journey, it helps to know where we are going. We are now immersed
in the revitalization of cities, and many elements will play a critical
role in this trend—architecture, building types, finance, and codes
included.
That work is crucial but it is not the end-game: the way we design
and layout streets will ultimately be the most permanent foundation
of our physical communities.
New Urbanism was founded by architects, and we have learned much
from them. But transportation planning and street design will set the
course for the future.

By Jasmine Haddaway, Celebration Foundation Intern
On Saturday, May 16, the Celebration Community Presbyterian
Church was transformed into a candle-lit setting for a beautiful
concert and conversation. In an intimate
musical performance, Kellie Haddock,
sponsored by the Celebration Foundation’s
WINGS (Women’s Initiative Nurturing
Girls’ Strength) Program shared her story
of loss, hope, family, and faith.
Eleven years ago, Kellie, her husband, and
14-week-old son, Eli, were involved in a
horrendous car accident that killed her
husband instantly and sent her son to
Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital with
little chance of surviving. Kellie was told
by Eli’s doctors that if he lived, he was not
expected to be able to talk, walk, or show
any emotion. Her son’s medical team at
Arnold Palmer worked tirelessly to save
his life and after one week, Kellie was
miraculously able to take Eli home from
the hospital. Today, Eli is a healthy and
happy child filled with joy and life.
In 2014, the 10th anniversary of the car
accident, Kellie wanted to thank the medical
professionals at Arnold Palmer Children’s
Hospital for saving her son’s life. She partnered with a local film
company and arranged a meeting with each of the first responders,
doctors, and nurses where she thanked
them, updated them on Eli’s health, and
invited them to a celebration in their
honor. The video recording of these
reunions, called “The Thank You Project,”
went viral, reaching over 4 million views
on YouTube and encouraging others to
seek out ways to show gratitude.
It was through the help of Kellie’s family,
friends, and faith that allowed her to
navigate widowhood, single-parenting,
remarriage, and her son’s healing. She
turned these experiences into songs that
shared her joys and sorrows throughout
her journey, looking to inspire others and
help them to look for the beauty in their
own stories.
Kellie Haddock with WINGS Celebration K-8 Students
At the concert, Kellie opened up her heart
and led the audience through her story
with her music. Her songs were heartfelt
and vulnerable, yet conveyed a deep sense
of resilience and empowerment. It was
an emotional and powerful night!

15,000 Osceola children with food insecurity
will receive snack bags
By Gloria Niec, Executive Director, Celebration Foundation
In February of this year, at our Mardi Gras 2015 gala, we held a Paddle
Call and asked for donations to help feed hungry children in Osceola
County. The Paddle Call raised $22,500.
On May 15, $22,500 worth of food was delivered to Celebration Town
Hall to be used for the Snack Packing event the following day.
Additional donations were received from individuals throughout the
County. $22,500 worth of food is a LOT of food…15,000 cans of
Vienna sausages, 15,000 boxes of raisins, 15,000 applesauce cups,
15,000 peanut butter crackers…you get the idea. Eight pallets of food,
two pallets of boxes and what seemed like a ridiculous amount of tape
was opened, unpacked, sorted and packed into 15,000 snack bags by a
wonderful group of over 300 volunteers made up of both residents
and non-residents to help our hungry kids in Osceola County.
Friends from crisis food pantries throughout Osceola County brought
their vans, trucks and cars and 7,500 snack bags were donated to these
pantries. The following Monday, the Osceola School district sent their
30’ truck and needing to make two trips, delivered 16 pallets of snack
bags to the district warehouse so that teachers and counselors could
have something to hand to a child who is hungry.
We thank everyone who contributed, through donations or through
their time, for the unmeasurable amounts of love and support poured
into this event.

Competing against more than 5,000 students in grades 1-6,
FLIS swept almost 30% of the gold medals awarded.
Competing in the competition for the first time, FLIS students
were judged in segments that included, listening, reading and

Twenty-one students entered the contest through the initial written
