DIO SI FA UOMO PER NOI
Dalla lettera di san Paolo apostolo a Tito
Figlio mio, è apparsa la grazia di Dio, che porta
salvezza a tutti gli uomini e ci insegna a rinnegare
l’empietà e i desideri mondani e a vivere in questo
mondo con sobrietà, con giustizia e con pietà,
nell’attesa della beata speranza e della
manifestazione della gloria del nostro grande Dio e
salvatore Gesù Cristo.
Egli ha dato se stesso per noi, per riscattarci da ogni
iniquità e formare per sé un popolo puro che gli
appartenga, pieno di zelo per le opere buone.
«Noi camminiamo a tastoni, ciechi, rasentando un
muro: giacciamo come
morti nelle tenebre; urliamo come orsi e gemiamo come colombe in
attesa della salvezza». Così parlava Isaia.
Noi invece annunciamo una gioia grande: ecco il
nostro Dio. Oggi è nato il nostro salvatore, Cristo
Signore: questa è la nostra gioiosa certezza; anche se
molti uomini portano ancora incise nella loro vita le
parole di Isaia, nella notte profonda il nostro orecchio ha sentito: la stella del mattino si è levata, per
noi è nato un bambino. «Di qui sgorga un messaggio di speranza in questo mondo che rischia di non
sperare più; un fascio di luce in questo mondo che
sembra sprofondare nelle tenebre; un elemento di
novità in una società che talora ci appare decrepita.
Un bambino che nasce è un destino nuovo che si
apre, una speranza che si ridesta».

oggi vi è nato un Salvatore: Cristo Signore.

Dal vangelo secondo Luca
In quei giorni un decreto di Cesare Augusto ordinò
che si facesse il censimento di tutta la terra. Questo
primo censimento fu fatto quando Quirinio era governatore della Siria. Tutti andavano a farsi censire,
ciascuno nella propria città.
Anche Giuseppe, dalla Galilea, dalla città di Nàzaret, salì in Giudea alla città di Davide chiamata
Betlemme: egli apparteneva infatti alla casa e alla
famiglia di Davide. Doveva farsi censire insieme a
Maria, sua sposa, che era incinta.
Mentre si trovavano in quel luogo, si compirono per
lei i giorni del parto. Diede alla luce il suo figlio primogenito, lo avvolse in fasce e lo pose in una mangiatoia, perché per loro non c’era posto nell’alloggio.
C’erano in quella regione alcuni pastori che, pernottando all’aperto, vegliavano tutta la notte facendo la
guardia al loro gregge. Un angelo del Signore si presentò a loro e la gloria del Signore li avvolse di luce.
Essi furono presi da grande timore, ma l’angelo
disse loro: «Non temete: ecco, vi annuncio una
grande gioia, che sarà di tutto il popolo: oggi, nella
città di Davide, è nato per voi un Salvatore, che è
Cristo Signore. Questo per voi il segno: troverete un
bambino avvolto in fasce, adagiato in una mangiatoia».
E subito apparve con l’angelo una moltitudine
dell’esercito celeste, che lodava Dio e diceva:
«Gloria a Dio nel più alto dei cieli
e sulla terra pace agli uomini, che egli ama».

PRIMA LETTURA
Dal libro del profeta Isaia
Il popolo che camminava nelle tenebre ha visto una
grande luce; su coloro che abitavano in terra
tenebrosa una luce rifulse. Hai moltiplicato la gioia,
hai aumentato la letizia. Gioiscono davanti a te
come si gioisce quando si miete e come si esulta
quando si divide la preda. Perché tu hai spezzato il
giogo che l’opprimeva, la sbarra sulle sue spalle,
e il bastone del suo aguzzino, come nel giorno di
Màdian. Perché ogni calzatura di soldato che
marciava rimbombando e ogni mantello intriso di
sangue saranno bruciati, dati in pasto al fuoco.
Perché un bambino è nato per noi, ci è stato dato un
figlio. Sulle sue spalle è il potere e il suo nome sarà:
Consigliere mirabile, Dio potente, Padre per
sempre, Principe della pace. Grande sarà il suo
potere e la pace non avrà fine sul trono di Davide e
sul suo regno, che egli viene a consolidare e
rafforzare con il diritto e la giustizia, ora e per
sempre. Questo farà lo zelo del Signore degli
eserciti.

In the New Beginning
MERRY CHRISTMAS!
From the Deacon’s desk…..
Peace of Christ!
The birth of Jesus marks a new
creation, the start of a new
heaven and a new earth (see
Isaiah 65:17; 2 Peter 3:13).
That's why the first words of
today's Gospel reprise the Bible's first words - "In the beginning" (see Genesis 1:1).
On behalf of myself and the men of Old Colony
Correction Center, I want to thank the Sacred Heart
Parish Family for their great generosity! We collected a huge amount of gift items for those at the
facility.
The priority of your generosity will be those inmates,
who are truly in need. So many have no family
support for their personal needs – the Sacred Heart
Family has now allowed those men to have the basics, that are essential for their every day living.
Please know your generosity will be remembered in
our prayers on Christmas Day!
Jesus is the Word that God
spoke when He said, "Let
there be," and all things came to be (see Genesis
1:3,26). The Wisdom through whom all things were
made (see Proverbs 8:22-31; Wisdom 7:21-27), Jesus
is also the mighty Word by whom God sustains all
things.
Baby Bottle … A Woman’s Concern
Please remember to return your Baby Bottle!
The Word of God (see Revelation 19:13) has become
flesh. This is the mystery we sing of in today's Psalm the revelation of mankind's salvation in the sight of the
nations.
The money received through the Baby Bottle Drive
will support the pro-life activities of A Woman’s
Concern located in Revere. To those of you who
have already turned in your Baby Bottle –

The Word comes as God and king, we hear in today's
First Reading. Enthroned at God's right hand (see
Psalm 110:1), He is the royal Son who has received all
the nations as His inheritance (see Psalm 2:8).
UN BAMBINO È NATO PER NOI
Per riconquistare gli uomini, per sollevarli verso di
sé, per parlare con loro, Dio è venuto quaggiù come
un bambino, come un balbettio che è facile soffocare. E molti effettivamente lo soffocano. Lo soffocano facendo del Natale la festa del consumo, dello
spreco istituzionalizzato: festa dei regali e dei lustrini,
della tredicesima e del panettone, festa di una certa
poesia di generale bontà, di un sentimentalismo che
si vernicia di generosità e commozione.
The Word comes, too, as a heavenly high priest, as
we hear in today's Epistle. Through His blood, He
accomplished atonement and purification from sin
(see Exodus 30:10; Hebrews 6:20; 10:3-7, 11-13).
And by this, He has made it possible for each of us to
live as children of God, as "new creations” (see 2 Corinthians 5:17; Galatians 6:15).
Altri soffocano Dio-Bambino impedendogli di
crescere: Dio rimane bambino per tutta la loro vita:
una fragile Statuetta di terracotta, relegata in una scatola, che si depone nella bambagia una volta
all’anno:, solo una scusa per dare un certo «colore»
religioso alla grande baldoria del natale pagano. Le
parole che questo Bambino ha portato agli uomini
non sono ascoltate: sono impegnative ed inopportune mentre un cristianesimo-caramella è molto più
comodo.
In the beginning, God made men and women in His
image (see Genesis 1:27). In the new creation, He
brings that divine image to perfection in Jesus, who is
the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all
creation, and the firstborn from the dead (see Colossians 1:15, 18).
Let us resolve this Christmas to give Jesus rule over
our hearts, to ever more mold our hearts in the image
of our Creator - that the Christ-child may be the firstborn of a worldwide family of God (see Colossians
3:10; Romans 8:29).
