getting the most out of your vacation
S
So, you’ve just seen the sun rise in spectacular fashion over the
Atlantic Ocean. Now what? We’re glad you asked. First, check our
Calendar to see if a major event is within reach. From the world-class
to the local highlights, it’s all happening here.
Pack a picnic lunch and watch and listen as the waves crash
against the surf. Frolic in the water, do a little surf fishing, watch
the surfers challenge the sea or build a sandcastle. Fish inshore or
offshore, from a dock, in the surf or navigate the best fishing spots by
boat. Golf on a variety of courses that represent all sorts of challenges.
Get warm and fuzzy with nature at one of the many parks dotted
throughout the area. Bring your binoculars and discover over 400
species of birds or watch as dolphins play in the surf.
Daytona International Speedway offers daily track tours
year-round, which include a preview of the NEW $400 million
DAYTONA Rising front-stretch redevelopment project. In addition,
guests will be able to get up close to the NEW 2015 DAYTONA
500 champion car of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Joey Logano.
Then head over to one of our go-kart tracks or amusement
centers. Remember to save some time to visit a few of our historical
landmarks and museums. Now at Congo River Golf, you can feel,
hold and take pictures with live alligators. Visit the ballpark where
Jackie Robinson played in the first integrated Major League spring
training game in 1946 or head over to an old sugar mill and get a
glimpse into the lives of Florida’s early pioneers. Of course, one of the
best things to do in Daytona Beach is absolutely nothing. Grab your
beach blanket, sit back and enjoy the view.
Be sure to mention to businesses and friends that you saw some
fun ideas in the SEE Daytona Beach Insider’s Guide. Contact us on
our website www.SEE-DaytonaBeach.com or on Facebook and let us
know if you have new ideas for us, after all there is so very much to
see and do in the area!

Driving
Driving on the beach is one of the fun things that makes the Daytona
Beach area stand out from other beaches.
Our “World’s Most Famous Beach” covers 23 miles of hard-packed sand.
That same sand that welcomed in the first automobile and motorcycle
racing that began back in 1902.

on the
In an effort to conserve our natural resources, beach access is limited to
specific sections of the beach, weather and tide permitting. Be aware of
your surroundings and watch for sunbathers, pedestrians and even
wildlife. Maximum speed of 10 mph, headlights on and windows
down for safety.
There is a small fee for driving on the beach and the toll booths are your
entry way to fun in the sun! $10 for a daily pass, $25 for a permanent
county resident annual pass, and $100 for a non-resident annual pass.

A fun, noisy and
educational experience!
We glided with
exhilarating speed into the
backwaters of the marsh!
From the unique
perspective of my seat, I
had the opportunity to see
many species of birds,
including large blue herons
and majestic bald eagles.
Not only were there
alligators basking in the
sun, but I even saw a cow or

SHOPPING
a shopper’s dream
N
No vacation would be complete without some serious
shopping, “retail therapy”. So, whether you’re in the mood for
strolling through sophisticated boutiques and galleries or bargain
hunting, we’ll help you find what you need.
Our shopping destinations come in all sizes and price ranges:
from the little beachside souvenir shops to stores that sell the finest
in Florida fashion. Indulge in a flattering new swimsuit; pamper
yourself with beachwear in every hue or fancy footwear.
You’ll have no problem finding important accessories like tote
bags, hats and beach towels. Also, while looking good is important,
make sure you have a pair of sunglasses and plenty of sunscreen,
as well. Once you’ve taken care of the basics, it’s time to find
something to wear for stepping out onto the town. But remember,
this is Florida and you’ll never be out of fashion in tropical prints or
breezy silks. Why not make your fashion statement with a Panama
hat, Hawaiian shirt and sandals?
Our downtown historic shopping district has pleasant palmlined streets that identify the Historic Downtown Daytona Beach
shopping area. Meander the streets of this intriguing neighborhood
of art deco and neoclassical architecture to find antiques, home
furnishings, top fashions, jewelry, art and collectibles.
At all Maui Nix Surf Shop locations, NEW
styles in
swimwear, jeans, hoodies and shorts arrive daily for guys and
gals! Sweaters, wraps, flowery skirts, plus cell phone and gaming
headphones, make great gifts too.
Looking for a souvenir for someone special? You’ll discover
unique selections here. Pick up a one of a kind creation or purchase
a giant conch shell to provide a constant reminder of your vacation
as you listen to the sounds of the ocean.
Many of our shops will ship your items back home for you.
Don’t know where to start? Just flip through these pages and we’re
sure you’ll see something you like.

DINING
a world of dining choices
I
If you’re like us, your vacation experience begins and ends
with where you’re going to eat. You’re in luck because the Daytona
Beach area is home to restaurants that serve up everything from the
freshest seafood to traditional Southern-style cooking. We suggest
you start with our seafood. Our charter fishing boats bring it in fresh
every day from the bountiful waters of the Atlantic Ocean.
specifications. If it’s ethnic foods you long for, you’ll discover specialty
restaurants from traditional Italian to more exotic Thai or Indian.
Food is so very appetizing when dining while watching
a sunset from a dock, enjoying a beach scene, or catching the
breeze on a deck above a marina on the river. Our favorite
starters are clams, oysters and jumbo shrimp fresh from Florida
waters. Add a cold beer or a glass of chilled white wine to
celebrate being here!
Be sure to sample the RiverGrille on the Tomoka’s brand
menu and check out all of the renovations. Coming,
summer of 2015,
NEW Indoor-Outdoor Watering Hole.
Sample succulent alligator bites, delicious fried pickles or
mouthwatering calamari, accompanied by a tangy lime sauce. Devour
freshly caught grouper or a sumptuous filet mignon, cooked to your
Boondocks Restaurant located on the river next to Adventure
Yacht Harbor Marina is under NEW ownership. Oh my, they are
better than ever. My favorite is their fish Reuben sandwich, but that’s
just me.

In the Daytona Beach area, you can start your day with
breakfast while watching the sunrise at an oceanfront restaurant.
End the day viewing a spectacular sunset while dining on the
river. Tell your waitress you saw their ad in SEE Daytona Beach,
Insiders Guide and leave a nice tip! You are guaranteed not to go
home hungry. Food! Glorious food!
