Yankee Peddler Festival Association August 2015 News Release The Yankee Peddler Festival: Preserving the Past for a Better Present Today Headliners: Highland Reign: Sept. 12-13 Cody Gibson: Sept 19-20 Next Best Thing: Sept. 26 Tom Fries Trio: Sept. 27 Children’s Weekend Sept. 19-20 “Best in the Nation” Sunshine Artist Magazine Featured in RandMcNally Ultimate Road Atlas & Vacation Guide If you are looking for a place where you can discover and celebrate all the good that we, as humans, can do and be, then join the over two million intrepid souls who have visited the Yankee Peddler Festival for past 42 years. Yankee Peddler is a delightful world in which people really do smile at one another, share a quiet stroll through lovely wooded glens, and make and tailor lovely art and crafts to fit your needs and specifications. It is a world that gives you a chance to rejuvenate your spirit and give hope to your soul — an antidote to many of the negative moments of life that one can encounter in our modern world. For four decades, the Yankee Peddler Festival has invited visitors to immerse themselves in America’s early Republican past, a time when the pace of life was much slower and relaxed, a time when people lived and worked for the purpose of sharing with one another, a time when everyone made their own household objects rather than buying them off a shelf in a big box store filled to the gills with goods made by robotic arms in a far-off factory. For three weekends every year, the Yankee Peddlers come to Clays’ Park Resort in Canal Fulton, Ohio, to re-create this unique period of history. There are over 250 consummate artists and crafters from all over the United State and even Europe who set up rustic shops in which they make their wares and share their special knowledge with visitors. Cooks roast, fry, and bake foods over open fires and blend refreshing drinks from scratch to provide a wholesome taste treat that is thankfully very distinct from the bland, plasticized flavoring of microwave food. Performances all-day by bands, soloists, magicians, and puppeteers can be discovered around every bend of the trails through the 75 acres of Festival grounds. The militia, mountain men, and wagon train are on hand to share their knowledge of living off the bountiful land. The Yankee Peddler Today Festival, now in its 12th year, runs alongside the original Yankee Peddler. Yankee Peddler Today builds upon the past to bring the public a lovely, inspirational world of contemporary art and crafting, entertainment, and outdoor foods. Visitors who have not been to the Yankee Peddler Festival for several years will discover a whole new side of human creativity and inspiration built upon the foundation of excellence of the original Yankee Peddler. The Today artists and crafters create a present-day full of the same qualities found in our wholesome Republican past. Last year, Festival promoters intro- duced the first Children’s Weekend, two days with a special emphasis on activities for the youth who will become not only the artists and crafters of the future, but also the consumers of the future. The first Children’s Weekend was such a success that it will be back bigger and better than ever on the weekend of September 19-20. Not only can children meet with a militiaman and a mountain man, hold and learn about butterflies in the gazebo, and learn how to paint and weave, among the many activities. But they can also partake of Jim Volkert’s Children’s Theatre production of “The Princess Who Couldn’t Laugh,” puppets and marionettes, a nifty magician who asks children to help with her act, and lots of musical entertainment. You needn’t buy a thing at Yankee Peddler, although it is hard to resist the lovely crafts and the great food. You can just take in all the entertainment and demonstrations on the grounds. But whether you do purchase something or not, when you leave the world of the Yankee Peddlers to go home, you will also take with you all that is good about people! And that is worth much more than the price of admission! The Yankee Peddler Festival and the Yankee Peddler Today Festival will take place on the weekends of September 12-13, 19-20, & 26-27, at Clays’ Park Resort in Canal Fulton, Ohio. Gates will open rain or shine from 10:30 am to 6:00 pm. Admission at the gate is $10 for adults, $9 for seniors, and $3 for children (6-11).
