Survival Guide lligent anager BEST Summer Course Chisinau “IT-lligent manager - How to lead” 06.07 - 15.07 Welcome This survival guide is aimed to help foreigners that intend to visit Moldova, especially Chişinău. Read this guide carefully and you won’t get lost on your way to the Summer Course in Chişinău. Print this guide and take it with you. All participants will be met by the organizes. How to reach Chisinau Europe Moldova Chişinău By car Moldova has right-hand traffic. There are no specific traffic rules or signs, so feel free to travel by car. The quality of the roads is bad, therefore please take this into account. Tips & Tricks Prices for petrol and diesel are 25-40% lower then in Europe (~1.05euro for 95 petrol as for February 2014). By train Moscow, Kiev and Chișinău are linked by two express trains that run in the day and one night train that is slower. The journey takes about 13 hours on the express trains and 17 hours on the overnight train. It is possible to reach Chișinău by taking the night train from Bucharest. Generally prices are a bit higher than for buses and they deliver average quality. For schedules look here: http://railway.md/ro/schedule Trains arrive to Central Train Station. By bus Moldova is well served by buses connecting Chişinău with Kiev, Bucharest, and key cities in Romania and Ukraine. Border crossings take time, so journeys may be as long as 10 hours. From Romania: There are about 5 or 6 bus trips from Bucharest every day and plenty of connections to Iași, Galați, Brașov, Constanța, and Suceava too. Do ensure you route yourself via a border that has a non stop visa issuing office. Tickets cannot be bought online, so contact a booking office for tickets. From Ukraine: Buses run between Kiev, Odessa and Moldova, with the trip from Kiev taking around 11 hours and that from Odessa about 5. The Lvov bus takes 17 hours and has just 1 run a day. Again, tickets cannot be bought online. Try and route via the Palanca Moldovan-Ukrainian frontier and avoid Transnistria crossing. Moldova also has connections with different European cities via bus routes. Please check your local bus companies, in order to find out about the available routes to Chișinău. International buses usually arrive to: North, South or Central bus stations. For additional information about the way to the final arrival place, please check the Public Transportation section. By plane The only international airport in Moldova is located very close to Chișinău. All possible direct flights are listed here: http://airmoldova.md/destination-en The only cheap flights to Moldova are form Italy (Rome and Venice) via Wizzair. You can also check on this site all possible flight companies that provide services to Moldova. The lowest prices can be found for flights routed via Italy, Moscow, Bucharest. Tips & Tricks There are three ways (bus, minibus and taxi) to get from airport to the city center. For additional information about the way to the final arrival • The Chisinau airport has a free WI-FI zone (3 hours). • Exchange offices inside the airport usually have high exchange rates. If you absollutely need to, you may exchange a small amount of money. Its area is 120 sq. km with a population of ~670 thousands. For more details go to: http://chisinau.md/ The weather Temperatures during summer average about 25°C, although they may increase to 40°C. Summer rainfalls are usually warm and short in duration, but sometimes they may be heavy and ferocious. Languages The official language of Republic of Moldova is Romanian. The type of the sockets are European standard or Russian standard (non-grounded with 2 narrow round ends). If your plug doesn’t match one of these types, you can buy a plug adapter. Time Zone Moldova is using EET (Eastern European Time) in the winter and EEST (Eastern European Summer Time) during the summer (whih is GMT+3). Standard time zone is UTC/GMT +2 hours. Tips & Tricks • The transportation fare is paid directly to the conductor (in buses and trolleybuses) or to the driver (in minibuses) during the ride. There is no possibility or necessity to buy tickets in advance. • Don’t hesitate to ask people about the directions, routes or transportation to the final destination. • Don’t bother about the routes within the city as long as organizers team insures to meet you at the airport, train or bus station. Practical information Internet In Chișinău most of the cafes, pubs, restaurants have a free WI-FI zone. Moreover public places such as parks also provide free wireless Internet (connect to StarNet).
