MIRACLE-EAR
S
ue Hunt, who works in the front
office of Miracle-Ear in the
Capitola Mall, understands the difficulties that come with hearing
loss because she is a hearing aid user.
“I really do understand what people who
come in here are dealing with,” she says. “I
do struggle sometimes when I answer the
land line … I’m getting people on the line
who cant hear all that well, and I’m saying to
them, ‘You’ll have to bare with me because I
wear a hearing aid. They understand about
hearing loss, and instead of being impatient
because I cant hear, they're friendly because
we’re having the same experience.”

Hearing is essential to full enjoyment and
participation in life. Unfortunately, today 1
in 10 Americans — over 30 million people —
experience some degree of hearing loss.
Hearing loss is the third leading chronic
health condition among Americans, after
arthritis and high blood pressure.
When you arrive at Capitola’s Miracle-Ear
hearing center, employees realize you've also
arrived at an important decision in your life;
the decision to reconnect with sounds and
voices that make life fuller and richer.
Miracle-Ear’s staff understands that straining
to hear and repeatedly asking, "Could you
repeat that?" can be exhausting. That is why
they offer a wide variety of digital hearing
aid packages to combat hearing loss.
vidual-oriented.
“The holidays are coming up and we’ve had
a lot of people call in who either want to try
hearing aids for the first time, or have their
hearing aids cleaned and tuned up because
they haven’t gotten around to it,” says Hunt.
“They call because they’ll be around relatives. They plan to have people over or go
out of town, or they want to come in before
their grandchildren come to visit.”
“The owner is so patient and caring with all
of the people who come in. He really wants
to see their hearing improve,” says Hunt. “I
think the reason I accepted a job here and
I’m happy waking up and coming to work
everyday is because I’ve never seen such
good customer service and support.”
Hunt says she understands the feeling of
trying to talk to younger people, or multiple people at once, and becoming frustrated
trying to keep up with conversations and
fill in gaps.
“You’re watching facial expressions and
trying to read what their lips are saying,”
says Hunt. “Your brain does a lot of filling
in for those sounds that you’re missing.”
Miracle-Ear is dedicated to helping your
hearing improve. They do not see you as a
mere customer, but as a person for whom
they can revive the gift of sound.
“Probably 80 to 90 percent of people who
come into Miracle-Ear are in 70s, 80s and
90s,” says Hunt, who has spent time with a
number of hearing aid locations throughout
the Bay Area and finds the atmosphere of
Miracle-Ear in Capitola to be far more indi-
Miracle-Ear offers a free hearing test and
consultation to all. The test will help you
decipher which level of hearing loss you
are experiencing, and choose a hearing aid
package that is right for your particular
needs. The Miracle-Ear staff are happy to
help you sift between the numerous packages until you find one that fits perfectly.
Hunt says in her previous business career,
when her hearing became worse, it affected
her participation in business meetings and
interactions with colleagues.
“You can’t function well in business meetings because you can only hear people next
to you, and can’t catch people who talk too
quickly or have a certain type of voice. It
becomes very important for people to get
hearing aids. Some of them have to overcome emotional concerns, like ‘Will the
hearing aid be noticeable, or affect my
dealing with other colleagues.’”
Hunt says in 40 years of wearing a hearing
aid, nobody has noticed hers until she mentions it to them. Hearing aids are far less
noticeable than glasses, for instance, and if
anything they make you a sharper businessperson. Over the past decade, hearing aid
technology has become smaller and better.
Today, many hearing aids are virtually invisible and still deliver outstanding performance
in challenging listening environments.
If you want to reconnect with the voices
and sounds that make for a complete,
happy life, call the local Miracle-Ear inside
Sears at the Capitola Mall today, speak with
Sue Hunt, and set up your free hearing test
and consultation.
