Why Digital?
Hearing Systems
The previous generation of hearing
aids utilised amplification systems
based on analogue electronic technology. These hearing aids
simply took the sounds and noises that they "heard" and
amplified them. That meant amplifying unwanted signals also.
It was possible to apply some limiting factors to the output
sound levels of these hearing aids but in general, although
they were an excellent solution for the patients, the opportunity
to use Digital Signal Processing was a huge breakthrough.

Digital Signal Processing allows us, the manufacturer, to do just
that:- "process" the signals that are received by the hearing aid.
This means that we can manipulate the incoming sound, and
transform it into what the user feels most comfortable with. We
can reduce unwanted noise, and concentrate on providing the
user with clearer speech signals.

Speech Management System
Adjustable compression ratio
The Speech Management System digitally manages environmental
sound in order to, for example, increase the clarity of speech in a
noisy environment such as a party. It will suppress distorting noise
and works independently in each of the AGCi channels.

these sophisticated instruments extremely versatile and suitable
for most users’ personal preference.

Feedback Manager
Feedback (whistling) is caused by amplified sound being fed
30-bit resolution
back into the hearing aid receiver, being amplified again, and
being fed back in again. This phenomenon normally happens
Electronic noise from the hearing system is
cancelled out by the MNR circuitry.
Microphone Noise Reduction
at the resonant frequency of the auditory canal (about 3 KHz.)
The feedback manager dampens this frequency (and
frequencies adjacent to it) to prevent feedback occurring.
In cases where the patient has a mild hearing loss, it is possible
that they will be able to hear the actual circuit noise generated in
the hearing aid in a quiet environment. MNR circuitry cancels out
this noise and provides the user with a quiet hearing aid.
