News from the faith community
New service
Jones Memorial United
Methodist Church is offering
an early morning Praise and
Worship service at 8:45-9:30
a.m. on Sundays. This new
service is designed as a “come
as you are” praise service with
a blend of classic gospel and contemporary worship music. The early schedule allows families to worship
before going to Sunday
school, which begins at 9:45
a.m., and spend the remainder of the day together building those precious memories
that last as children grow. The
condensed message offered
will be a prelude to Pastor
Buddy’s full 11 a.m. service
and include scripture readings from both the Old and
New Testaments. Jones Memorial UMC is at 648 W. Park

Special sessions
Pastor Mike Macdonald of
Broad Street UMC will be presenting one more session on
“Confronting the Difficult Issues”. On May 18 the topic will
be “Prayer in the Schools”. The
session will be-gin at 5 p.m.
The public is invited to attend.
Contemporary service
Broad Street UMC invites
the public to its contemporary worship service at 8:45
a.m. every Sunday. Casual
dress is acceptable. There will
be a praise band including
drums, keyboards and guitar,
along with praise and worship music. The service will
last approx. 45 minutes.
Yard sale
The Baptist Men of Berea
Baptist Church will sponsor a
church yard sale on May 17
beginning at 7 a.m. Priced
items may be brought to Faith
Hall on May 16.
Ministry fair
Harbor Presbyterian will
present its first Ministry Fair
on May 18.
Celebrate Recovery meets
each Thursday at Southside
Baptist Church beginning
with a meal at 6:30 p.m. in the
fellowship hall. Childcare is
provided. This is a ministry to
those recovering from alcohol
or drugs, or those living in an
environment with others who
are struggling with addictions. God’s healing power is
celebrated through the “Eight
Recovery Principles”. Dedicated Christian workers who
lead in both small and large
group activities provide guidance for the group. It is supported by many groups at
Southside who provide help
with childcare and meals.
Family day
Mt. Mourne Church of
God, 1447 Mecklenburg hwy.,
will sponsor a Family Fun Day
on May 17 from noon-6 p.m.
Everyone is welcome to
attend and enjoy the kids
games, sno cones, funnel
cakes, hamburgers, hot dogs,
drinks, volleyball, horseshoes,
and more. There is no charge
for the any of the events.
Health fair
Faith UMC, 430 Patterson
Ave., will sponsor a health fair
on May 10 from 10 a.m.-2
p.m. There will be blood pressure checks, cholesterol
screening and information
provided about diabetes
and much more. Information
on the free clinic for the uninsured will also be available.
Everyone is invited to attend.
Gospel music
“His Ministry” will be in
concert at Laura Memorial
Church of God, 2173 Charlotte Hwy., Mooresville. Scheduled for May 10, the musical
program will begin at 6 p.m.
The public is invited.
Appreciation service
The 4th Appreciation Service for Assistant Pastor Chavis and Tosha Maxwell will be
held on May 9-10 at New
Beginning Church of God,
1124 Thomas Ave., Kannapolis. On May 9 at 7 p.m. Rev.
Jones of United Baptist
Church, Kannapolis will be
the guest speaker. On May 10
at 11 a.m. guest speaker will
be Evangelist McManus of
First Baptist Church in Kannapolis, and at 7 p.m. Pastor
Caldwell of New Piney Grove,
Kannapolis will bring the

Car show
On May 17, the United
Methodist Men of Rehobeth
United Methodist Church,
4054 McGee Point Road,
Terrell, will be sponsoring the
4th annual Car and Truck
Show at the Connor Recreation Center. Registration
begins at 8 a.m., with plaques
awarded at 2 p.m. Early registration is $20, and on the day
of the show the cost will be
$25. Along with the cars and
trucks, there will be music,
food, door prizes and a silent
auction. Barbecued chicken
will be served from 10 a.m.-2
p.m. and plates, at a cost of
$8, will include ½ chicken,
slaw, beans, roll and drinks.
Tickets are available in the
church office or from any
member of the United Methodist Men. All proceeds benefit the mission projects of the
Rehobeth United Methodist

Blood drive
Williamson’s Chapel UMC
will be sponsoring a Red
Cross blood drive on May 15
from 3-7:30 p.m. Appointments are not necessary, but

Recovery group
Trip planned
St. James Episcopal is
organizing a trip to see the
production of “Cotton Patch
Gospel” on May 11 at 2:30
p.m. in the Old Courthouse
Theatre, Concord. This religious comedy was scored by
Harry Chapin and based on
the book, “The Cotton Patch
Version of Matthew and John”
by Clarence Jordan, civil
rights leader and founder of
Koinonia Farm. This play is a
re-telling of these two Gospels, using rural Georgia as
the setting and country music
songs. Tickets are $15 individually, but reduced to $10 a
ticket for groups of ten or
more. Ticket orders must be

Fundraiser planned
The First Baptist Church—
Mooresville Preschool will
host a yard sale fundraiser on
May 17 from 7 a.m.-noon at
the church, 150 S. Church St.
There will be a wide variety of
items including furniture,
clothing, household items
