MESSAGE
I laud the La Pieta International Prayer
Groups as you come up with a beautiful prayer.
This project is very significant since the Church
aims to deepen our evangelization and mission. The
year 2001 is the beginning of the new millennium
and the Holy Father is asking us to truly deepen
our faith commitment. Your participation in this
group should lead you toward a better and clearer
understanding of the faith and its connection to
our practical lives. We who profess to believe
and follow Christ are invited to incarnate that
same love and compassion, especially in our various apostolates and
ministries. We must continue to become Christ’s presence at all times
and at all places.
May your prayer gatherings be an occasion to renew your faith,
hope, and love in God. I pray that you may inspire more courageous
people to be of service to God and his Church so that we may truly
have a dynamic and participative community of believers.
May you always discover and experience God’s mercy and love!

La Pieta
Pieta, an Italian word meaning “pity,” “compasssion,”
“sorrow,” is derived from the Latin pietas, signifying “loyalty
to the highest degree... a profound love that neither life nor
death can destroy.”
The classic meaning of the word pieta is the whole- soul
abiding in the Divine Will, but it is also the name traditionally
given to works of art representing the dead body of Christ
in the arms Of His Mother.

COME HOLY SPIRIT
Come Holy Spirit. Fill the hearts of Thy faithful and kindle in them the fire of Thy
love. Send forth Thy Spirit, and they shall be created and Thou shall renew the
face of the earth. Let us pray.
O God on the first pentecost, Thou instructed the hearts of those who believed in
Thee by the Light of the Holy Spirit. Under the inspiration of the same Spirit, give
us a taste for what is right and true and a continuing sense of His presence and
power, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
ACT OF CONTRITION
O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee. And I detest all my sins
because I dread the loss of heaven and the pains of hell, but most of all because
they offend Thee, my God, who art all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly
resolve, with the help of Thy grace, to confess my sins, to do penance and to amend
my life. Amen.
PRAYER GIVEN BY ST. JOSEPH
O Dearest Jesus, Lamb of God most meek. I, a miserable sinner, render homage
and worship to the wounds upon Thy shoulder made by the heavy cross Thou didst
carry. Its weight tore Thy flesh and bared Thy shoulder bones, which caused Thee
sufferings more than did Thy other wounds. I adore Thee, O grieving Jesus; I praise
and thank Thee for Thy adorable and most painful wound. Vouchsafe to grant me,
through the excessive pain and unmeasured weight of the cross, to have mercy on
me a sinner. Forgive my mortal and venial sins, and guide me on to heaven through
the way of the cross. Amen.

THE APOSTLES’ CREED
I believe in God,

THE FIVE JOYFUL MYSTERIES
(Monday and Thursday)
First Joyful Mystery
THE ANNUNCIATION
I desire the love of humility. Think of the humility of the
Blessed Virgin when the angel Gabriel greeted Her with these
words: “Hail full of grace.”
Second Joyful Mystery
THE VISITATION
I desire charity toward my neighbour. Think of Mary’s
charity in visiting Her cousin Elizabeth and remaining with
Her for three months before the birth of John the Baptist.
Third Joyful Mystery
THE NATIVITY
I desire the love of God. Think of the poverty, so lovingly
accepted by Mary when She placed the infant, Jesus our God
and Redeemer, in a manger in the stable at Bethlehem.
Fourth Joyful Mystery
THE PRESENTATION
I desire a spirit of sacrifice. Think of Mary’s obedience to
the law of God in presenting the child Jesus in the temple.
Fifth Joyful Mystery
THE FINDING IN THE TEMPLE
I desire zeal for the glory of God. Think of the deep sorrow
with which Mary sought the child Jesus for three days, and
the joy with which She found Him in the midst of the teachers
in the temple.

THE FIVE SORROWFUL MYSTERIES
( Tuesday and Friday )
First Sorrowful Mystery
THE AGONY IN THE GARDEN
I desire true repentance for my sins. Think of our Lord
Jesus in the garden of Gethsemani, suffering a bitter agony
for our sins.
Second Sorrowful Mystery
THE SCOURGING AT THE PILLAR
I desire a spirit of mortification. Think of the cruel scourging
at the pillar that our Lord suffered: the heavy blows that tore
His flesh.
Third Sorrowful Mystery
THE CROWNING WITH THORNS
I desire moral courage. Think of the crown of sharp thorns
that was forced upon our Lord’s sacred head and the patience
with which He endured the pain for our sins.
Fourth Sorrowful Mystery
THE CARRYING OF THE CROSS
I desire the virtue of patience. Think of the heavy cross, so
willingly carried by our Lord, and ask Him to help you to
carry your crosses without complaint.
Fifth Sorrowful Mystery
THE CRUCIFIXION
I desire the grace of final perseverance. Think of the love
which filled Christ’s Sacred Heart during His three hours
agony on the cross, and ask Him to be with you at the hour
of death.

(Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday)
First Glorious Mystery
THE RESURRECTION
I desire a strong faith. Think of Christ’s glorious triumph
when on the third day after His death, He arose from the
tomb and for forty days appeared to His Blessed Mother and
to His disciples.
Second Glorious Mystery
THE ASCENSION
I desire the virtue of hope. Think of the ascension of Jesus
Christ forty days after His Glorious Resurrection, in the
presence of Mary and His disciples.
Third Glorious Mystery
THE DESCENT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
I desire zeal for the Glory of God. Think of the descent of
the Holy Spirit upon Mary and the apostles under the form of
tongues of fire, in fulfilment of Christ’s promise.
Fourth Glorious Mystery
THE ASSUMPTION
I desire the grace of a holy death. Think of the glorious
assumption of Mary into heaven when She was united with
Her Divine Son.
Fifth Glorious Mystery
THE CORONATION
OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY
I desire a greater love for the Blessed Virgin Mary. Think
of the Glorious crowning of Mary as Queen of Heaven by Her
Divine Son, to the great joy of all the saints.

PRAYER TO THE LORD
Lord, we want You to know that inspite of our sins
and shortcomings, we submit ourselves into Your
power. Please hear us Your children. Here we are, we
who are fulfilling Your Divine Will. Grant us Your
everlasting love and the forgiveness we seek for all
the sins and shortcomings that we commit. We pray
for Your unending forgiveness.
Lord, our God, in Your goodness, spare us sinners.
Show us the path away from sins.
Through Your power, we plead for You to give us the
wisdom to know right from wrong. If by chance we
should forget because of all the temptations in life,
please grant us Your pardon. You are the only one
who could bring out the goodness You want to see in
us. We submit ourselves to You for the reassurance of
Your mercy.
Lord, show us the way to peace and a new life. May
the light of hope that You have given us stay aglow
wherever we may be. Again, we thank You Lord for
the time You have given us to repent our sins. We hope
that before judgement day, we have done our penance
and received Your forgiveness so that we may share
eternal life and peace with You, Almighty God.
Thank You for the gift of light which allows us to
enjoy the beauty of the universe. Forgive us sinners.
You are the light of our life, now and for ever. Forgive

ST. MICHAEL THE ARCHANGEL
St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our
protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him we humbly pray, and do thou,
O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the power of God,
thrust into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who wander
throughout the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

LET US PRAY
Lord Jesus Christ, Who has said: “Ask and ye shall
receive; seek and ye shall find; knock and it shall
be opened unto you,” mercifully attend to our
supplications, and grant us the gift of Thy divine
charity, that we may ever love Thee with our whole
heart and with all our words and deeds, and may

O Lord Jesus Christ, Most Merciful and Tender, Loving
God. I a miserable sinner, consecrate my entire being
without reserve to your Sacred Heart. I consecrate to you
this poor heart of mine that it may love only You. Inflame
me in the fire of Your Love. I lay down before your Sacred
Heart, all my failures, faults, weaknesses, and negligence
to be repaired by Your Divine Love.
