INNOVATION
New products account for more than 25 percent of Beam’s growth. With a clear focus on flavor and premiumization, Beam’s innovation pipeline is a
key driver now of our business and the new products we introduce that appeal to longtime fans and new consumers alike.
Recent innovation highlights include:
• In January 2011, Beam released its first single-barrel bourbon in
Knob Creek® Single Barrel Reserve, which is carefully hand-selected,
barrel-by-barrel, to be a unique expression of Knob Creek’s rich,
mature flavor.
• Inspired by the essence of freshly harvested vine-ripened
cucumbers, EFFEN® Vodka introduced a new flavor option in 2011
with the launch of EFFEN Cucumber Vodka.
• In 2011, DeKuyper pulled from its flavor expertise to launch its first
Premium Orange Liqueur, JDK & Sons™ O3. Made from Brazillian
Pera oranges, O3 brings a sweeter, juicier flavor than the leading
orange liqueurs and at a more attractive price point.
• Taking bourbon innovation into “devilish” territory, Beam unleashed
Devil’s Cut™ in 2011 – a new, premium bourbon that is created using
a proprietary process that extracts the liquid trapped inside the wood
of the bourbon barrel.
• To further expand its presence in the dynamic flavored vodka
category, Beam launched Pucker™ Flavored Vodka in May 2011.
• In June 2011, Courvoisier continued to revolutionize the Cognac
category with the launch of Courvoisier Rosé, a first of its kind blend
of Cognac and premium French red wine grapes.

Cranberry Cosmo, Piña Colada and White Peach Margarita along
with Skinnygirl Wine and Vodka with Natural Flavors , all since

Jim Beam, Beam introduces Devil’s Cut® and Jim Beam® Honey to
international markets in late 2011.
• Teacher’s introduces super premium and luxury Scotch expressions
in December 2011 with the global launch of Teacher’s 25 Years Old
Blended Scotch Whisky and Teacher’s Highland Single Malt Whisky
from the Ardmore Distillery.
• In January 2012, Teacher’s gives Indian consumers a convenient way
to enjoy their favorite scotch with the introduction of Teacher’s RTD
in two variants – Teacher’s & Soda and Teacher’s & Cola.

award-winning portfolio in February 2012, boasting a daring, intense
flavor profile that stands out from the crowd and showcases a new
side of cognac.

two bold new Red Stag by Jim Beam® expressions: Honey Tea and
Spiced.

tang in two refreshing flavours, Apple Bite and Purple Twist, served
up in sleek and stylish ready-to-drink cans and bottles.
• Also in April 2012, Jim Beam introduced a unique new bourbon twist
with Jim Beam Lime Splash, the first ready to drink bourbon with a
new and trendy lime flavor.
• In the summer of 2012, Knob Creek® has introduced Knob Creek®
Rye to further round out its portfolio of super-premium offerings.
• DYC Whisky revolutionized the Spanish whisky category in July of
2012 with the launch of DYC Red One – a whisky based spirit with a
hint of natural black cherry flavoring.

Driving the cocktail craze, DeKuyper®, the best-selling line of cordials and liqueurs in the U.S., continues to define the category with nearly 60
flavors, including its best-selling Pucker® line.
BRAND CRAFTSMANSHIP
The stories behind the individual brands and how and where they are made are unique, but they all share the same exceptional characteristics of
quality, authenticity and craftsmanship.
Craftsmanship is at the heart of Beam’s operations. It starts with a diverse variety of natural ingredients which are harvested to form the core of
our brands, from rye, wheat, corn and malt to agave plants; it continues with the tools that we use to grind, mix, ferment, bake and store these
ingredients — from stills and steel casks to oak barrels. In all cases, we use the finest ingredients and time-tested methods in crafting our products.
Dubbed “partially science, partially art,” distilling is a combination of these two seemingly distinct skills. Our Master Distillers and Master Blenders
will tell you that science alone is not enough; the art of distillation comes into play through instinct, an acute use of four of the five senses — smell,
taste, touch and sight — and years of on-the-job experience. In some cases, that translates into centuries of knowledge that has been passed
down from generation to generation.
While each of our Master Distillers preside over different brands, they have the same things in common with one another: skill, passion, respect,
pride, discerning standards and patience.

JIM BEAM® BOURBON
PRODUCT HERITAGE
ACCOLADES
Jacob Beam sold his first barrel of bourbon in 1795, laying the foundation for an enduring
family business that lasted through even the hardships of Prohibition – which led the family to
try growing citrus, coal mining and even running a lime quarry. After repeal in 1933, however,
the Beam family quickly returned to producing bourbon. In fact, at aged 70, James Beauregard
Beam, or “Jim” – the namesake behind Jim Beam® bourbon – personally rebuilt the family’s
distillery, by hand, in just 120 days.
Jim Beam®:
After seven generations and 30 family members of master distillers, the Jim Beam family tradition
continues on today. In 2005, Frederick Booker Noe III, the great-grandson of Jim Beam, filled the
10 millionth barrel of Jim Beam, keeping the tradition of Jacob Beam alive for the next generation
of bourbon drinkers.

JIM BEAM® DEVIL’S CUT®
PRODUCT HERITAGE
Jim Beam® Devil’s Cut® is a premium bourbon whiskey created using a proprietary process that
extracts the liquid trapped inside the wood of the bourbon barrels. The name Devil’s Cut plays
off the notion of “Angel’s Share” in bourbon-making. As Bourbon ages, a portion of liquid is lost
from the barrel due to evaporation—that’s the Angel’s Share. After aging, when the bourbon is
dumped out of the barrel, a certain amount of whiskey is left trapped within the wood of every
barrel—it’s that liquid, and the rich flavors from deep within the barrel wood it contains, that we
unleash and put back into our Bourbon to create Devil’s Cut®.
www.jimbeamdevilscut.com
Jim Beam on Facebook
PRODUCT ATTRIBUTES
• Devil’s Cut® is made by recapturing the rich bourbon and flavors previously trapped in the
barrel wood, and carefully adding them back into extra-aged, six-year Jim Beam® Bourbon to
create the finely-balanced, smooth 90 proof Devil’s Cut® Bourbon.
• The aroma of Devil’s Cut® showcases the deep notes of vanilla and wood pulled from the
extracted liquid of the barrel.
• By extracting the liquid trapped within the barrel wood, bold bourbon notes of wood, oak and
vanilla are unleashed and give Devil’s Cut® an intense but smooth flavor that separates itself
from other bourbons.
• Devil’s Cut® is available in more than five countries worldwide.
CONSUMPTION AND MIXING TRENDS
• Devil’s Cut® should be enjoyed neat, on the rocks, as a shot or mixed with cola. It’s great for
those occasions when you’re looking to unleash your spirit with a great night filled with the
makings of bold memories.
RED STAG BY JIM BEAM®
PRODUCT HERITAGE
RECIPES
Made in Kentucky by a true Kentuckian, Red Stag by Jim Beam Bourbon Whiskey brings flavor
to the Bourbon category. Created through a unique, artisanal process where flavors are infused
into our four-year-old Bourbon, Red Stag is true to our rich Bourbon heritage—only with a twist.
®
Red Stag Black Cherry by Jim Beam® was successfully launched in June ’09, and was both
the #2 Spirits innovation in 2010 and the #1 Bourbon introduction in the previous 10 years.
Since storming out of the gate, Red Stag Bourbon has helped spark a surge for new, innovative
whiskies infused with flavor. We are seeing this bring new consumers into the category who
previously had not considered brown spirits, and we a proud to have been the first whiskey to
acknowledge and address this trend.
In 2012, Jim Beam® has expanded its world-leading bourbon portfolio with two new Red Stag
expressions– Red Stag Honey Tea and Red Stag Spiced. Red Stag Honey Tea and Red Stag
Spiced, like their predecessor, use signature Jim Beam four-year-old bourbon – the world’s
number one bourbon – as a base, but instead of black cherry, the new expressions are honey tea
and cinnamon flavored. All three Red Stag Bourbon offerings provide a mixable, approachable
spin on America’s native spirit.

MAKER’S MARK® BOURBON
PRODUCT HERITAGE
ACCOLADES
In the early 1950s, Kentucky distiller Bill Samuels, Sr., founder of Maker’s Mark, set out to make a
better tasting bourbon whisky. What he discovered was that if you used winter wheat in the mash
instead of the traditional distiller’s rye, your bourbon whisky was smoother, less bitter and that has
made all the difference
“Established Growth Brand,” Cheers, 2009
Maker’s Mark® Bourbon is distinct not only for its unique flavor, but its iconic bottle as well. That’s
because each bottle is dipped and sealed by hand in red wax, emulating the antique cognac
bottles collected by Margie Samuels, Bill Sr.’s wife. Margie was also a collector of fine English
pewter, and the hallmarks made by the craftsman of those works inspired her to name her
husband’s masterpiece Maker’s Mark. The Samuels set high standards for handcraftsmanship
and quality, and for more than 50 years the distillery has continued to make Maker’s Mark exactly
as they did.
In 2010, the first new product ever for Maker’s Mark, Maker’s 46™ Bourbon was introduced.
Maker’s 46 Bourbon is created by removing fully matured Maker’s Mark bourbon from its barrel,
affixing ten seared oak staves to the inside of the original barrel, then putting the Maker’s Mark
back in and aging it several more months. 46 is the number assigned by the barrel maker to the
process he created specifically for this project. This launch contributed to double digit growth of
Maker’s Mark’s in both the U.S. and international markets, and helped the brand to crack one
million cases sold in 2010.
The Maker’s Mark Distillery in Loretto, Ky. was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1980,
becoming the first distillery in America to be so recognized, and was decreed as “The oldest
operating bourbon distillery in the world” by the Guinness World Records Book. Maker’s Mark is
one of the Commonwealth of Kentucky’s most popular tourist destinations, attracting more than
100,000 visitors each year.
PRODUCT ATTRIBUTES
• Made in batches of less than 1,000 gallons, or just 19 barrels, at a time.
• One of a few Bourbons made exclusively with iron-free limestone spring water.
• Maker’s Mark propagates its own yeast with some of the cultures dating back to the preprohibition era.
• Maker’s Mark is aged in white oak barrels which are air dried for nine months and charred
inside (adds caramel flavor and amber color) before use.
• Barrels of aging Maker’s Mark are rotated in the warehouse from top down to take advantage
of temperature variations. Each barrel is sampled for taste before being moved.
• Every bottle is hand dipped in the signature red wax, hence no two bottles are alike.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
• 2011 marked the first year Maker’s Mark advertised on TV.
• Maker’s Mark has a strong commitment to the environment and strives to be the leader in
eco-friendly practices. Maker’s Mark is the only whisky distillery in North America to utilize an
Energy Production Facility that uses byproducts stemming from the production process to
generate renewable energy.

EFFEN® VODKA
PRODUCT HERITAGE
ACCOLADES
Beam acquired EFFEN® Vodka, a super-premium vodka whose name means “smooth, even and
balanced” in Dutch, in 2009. Made from premium Dutch wheat, EFFEN Vodka uses a continuous
distillation process, along with all-natural ingredients to create a smooth taste on the palette. As
the only vodka created by bartenders, for bartenders, EFFEN Vodka not only offers a world-class
liquid but a sleek, form-meets-function design with a rubber sleeve that acts as a grip and an
insulator to keep the vodka consistently cold. In addition to EFFEN Vodka, the brand line also
features EFFEN Black Cherry Vodka, EFFEN Dutch Raspberry Vodka and, our latest introduction,
EFFEN Cucumber Vodka.
EFFEN Vodka: Gold, 2011 San Francisco World
Spirits Competition
Known for its innovative flavor choices, EFFEN Vodka is ahead of the curve once again with the
launch of EFFEN® Cucumber Vodka. With the essence of freshly harvested vine-ripe cucumbers,
this new vodka creates a refreshing take on classic cocktails. It pairs well with melons such as
cantaloupe or watermelon, can provide a crisp twist to a traditional martini and also mixes well
with soda water, tonic or lemon-lime soda to create a cool, refreshing taste.
PRODUCT ATTRIBUTES
• ef - fen\e-,’fen\adj. Dutch: 1. smooth, 2. even, 3. Balanced.
• EFFEN Vodka is based on a century-old Dutch recipe, which includes premium wheat from
Northern Holland. Of all base materials used to make vodka (grapes, potato, corn, soy grain,
rye), wheat contains the purest kind of starch, resulting in EFFEN’s silky, smooth liquid.
• The flavors in EFFEN Black Cherry, EFFEN Dutch Raspberry and EFFEN Cucumber are
all-natural, with no artificial flavors or preservatives, and are created by
distilling fresh ingredients through a process similar to that of distilling
alcohol.
• EFFEN’s distilling process, achieved through a proprietary vacuum
process, is done at a much lower temperature than other vodkas as a
means of avoiding caramelization.
• EFFEN Vodka is filtered through peat, which is more effective at removing
impurities than charcoal.
• The water used for EFFEN Vodka is filtered through reverse osmosis to
strip away impurities. Since 80-proof vodka is actually 60 percent water,
we take great care in creating the purest water needed for world-class
vodka.

CANADIAN CLUB® CANADIAN WHISKY
PRODUCT HERITAGE
ACCOLADES
Canadian Club was founded by Hiram Walker in 1858. Walker’s uniquely smooth whisky quickly
gained popularity in the late 19th Century Gentlemen’s Clubs throughout the US and Canada
and became known as “Club Whisky.” The popularity of “Club Whisky” caused American distillers
to petition Walker and the U.S. Government to add the word “Canada” to the name to make a
clear distinction from competing American whiskies. The name was changed to Canadian Club®
Whisky. The famous Whisky played a major role in history as the “unofficial” Whisky of Prohibition.
Located just over the border in Windsor, Canada, Canadian Club was able to continue legally
producing whisky between 1920 and 1933 when the sale of beverage alcohol was prohibited in
the United States. It is rumored that CC quickly became a favorite of Al Capone who operated a
lucrative business smuggling the spirit across the Detroit River to thirsty Americans.

PRODUCT HERITAGE
RECIPES
Teacher’s can trace its roots back to the 1850s, when a Victorian grocer named William
Teacher began selling whisky in Glasgow, Scotland. As an immensely successful brand, the
company hedged its sales during the First World War by distributing to its customers ration
coupons, which entitled them to only five glasses of Teacher’s per week. When the war was
over, business resumed, and the company was able to fulfill growing demand from its ample
supply.

Scotch whisky.

• A minimum of 45% of the content of Teacher’s blend is Malt whisky, amongst the highest
proportion of any blend and a signifier of its quality Teacher’s is made using only traditional
distillation methods.

HORNITOS™ TEQUILA
PRODUCT HERITAGE
ACCOLADES
The Hornitos story begins with a revolution. Don Francisco Javier Sauza (or Don Franco)—
descendant of Don Cenobio Sauza, founder of La Perseverancia Distillery and the man who
coined the name “tequila” in 1873— was determined to bring tequila to a new height of respect
and renown. As an ambassador extraordinaire for the spirit, Don Franco not only worked with the
Mexican government to proclaim Jalisco, Mexico (the state where the town of Tequila is located)
as the exclusive origin of genuine tequila in 1974, but also transform standards for his beloved
family business. With Hornitos™ Reposado, Don Franco introduced the use of 10,000 gallon
oak barrels called “pipones” to serve as aging vessels for his fine tequila. The pipones gave the
tequila less contact with the wood, bringing out a pure agave flavor and a delicate pale gold color
unique to the Hornitos Reposado. In his travels around the world, Don Franco shared his favorite
creation freely, making tequila internationally famous as a taste of Mexico with the smooth, pure
flavor of Hornitos tequila.
Hornitos™ Plata
Today, the Hornitos™ family of tequilas keeps Don Franco’s legacy alive, using the same high
standards to cultivate the best and most flavorful agaves and mold them into premium tequila to
enjoy whether creating “Hornitails,” our version of the traditional cocktail, or savoring on its own.
