Walk down landmarked streets; visit Prospect Park, peek into the Park Slope Food Coop, the nation’s largest owner‐run coop; experience hip‐and‐happening 5th Avenue and Brooklyn style stoop sales; see the historic Montauk Club, Brooklyn Conservatory of Music and Squad 1 Firehouse, an elite FDNY facility that lost 12 men on 9/11. N‐WT‐4 BEAR MOUNTAIN MUSHROOM HIKE Forage for fungi with mushroom maven Gary Lincoff, parent of sophomore Noah, world‐renowned mycologist and author of the most widely used mushroom field guide in North America. The walk is relatively easy, proceeding from the Bear Mountain Inn to an old deserted village (Doodletown) set deep in the woods. Wear walking shoes or boots. Bring rain‐gear, just in case, and a basket or container to collect mushrooms in. Bring a lunch and a drink. $20 – Sunday, May 22. N‐WT‐5 MORNINGSIDE HEIGHTS: Visit neighborhood landmarks including Riverside Church, Grant’s Tomb, Columbia University, Cathedral of St. John the Divine, and, of course, Tom’s Diner of Seinfeld and Suzanne Vega fame. N‐WT‐6 A TOUR OF THE CHINESE SCHOLARSʹ GARDEN, Snug Harbor Cultural Center, Staten Island. Learn about Chinese architecture and philosophy with a tour of the Chinese Scholars’ Garden led by Barbara Tepper, parent of junior Sam. Take the 9:00 am ferry from Whitehall, and Barbara will meet you at the Staten Island Ferry Terminal. Tour includes a light snack at a restaurant in Snug Harbor. Time permitting, it will also include the Staten Island Botanical Gardens and the grounds of Snug Harbor, originally created as a retirement home for sailors. INDOOR ACTIVITIES N‐OC‐1 MONOPRINT MAKING WITH HITOSHI NAKAZATO ‐‐ Hitoshi, an artist and professor of Fine Arts at the University of Pennsylvania, as well as the father of sophomore Gene – has been featured one‐man and group shows in New York, Tokyo, Seoul, Taipei, Italy, Israel and Australia. Monoprints are an immediate and direct printmaking process for professional artists, art teachers and non‐artists alike. Workshop participants will be able to use Hitoshi’s recently acquired 36” X 60ʺ bed Charles Brand Press, and enjoy working with this innovative and provocative artist and teacher. Dear Friend,
On behalf of the Stuyvesant High School Parents' Association, we invite you to join with
us in supporting our students.
The Second Annual Lunar New Year Feast Benefit will be held on Friday, February 4th
at Jing Fong Restaurant in Chinatown. This event is a celebration of our community and
a tribute to the hopes and aspirations of our students. Last year nearly 500 people
attended the inaugural event helping us to raise funds to provide services to our
students as they prepare for college, services that the school budget and many families
are unable to provide. Monies raised support college tours informational programs for
students and parents, college counseling, and translation services to a significant
number of parents who are not English speakers.
This year’s event will feature a Silent Auction. Your or your organization’s donations to
the auction would be greatly appreciated. They can be in the form of certificates for
services or merchandise, which can be redeemed after the event by the winners, or the
actual merchandise itself, which will be on display. You may also contribute to the event
by helping to underwrite the cost of the dinner, thereby enabling more proceeds of the
dinner to go to the college services fund. You or your organization will receive a letter
acknowledging your contribution and recognition of you support in our Parents
Association Bulletin which is mailed to the homes of each of our 3,200 students.
Underwriters of the dinner will also be acknowledged in the event program.
If you are able to help us, please complete and sign the attached "Donation Certificate."
Also, please attach any certificates or brochures that you or your business requires, to
our form. If you wish to help underwrite the dinner, a check should be made out to
Stuyvesant PA. A Stuyvesant parent will happily arrange pickup of items. Also, feel free
to mail donations to our office at the address above, to the attention of Peggy Harvey.
We hope that you will find a way to help us help all of our students fulfill their potential.

Be part of a new Stuyvesant High School tradition. Please join the Parents' Association College
Committee and other Stuyvesant families in a banquet dinner to benefit college services.
New to the school? Get acquainted. Already have a group of Stuyvesant friends? Gather them
together for this evening. Invite grandma and grandpa. There will be food, entertainment, and an
opportunity to bid on gifts and services provided by our families and our neighbors. Proceeds
from the event support college tours, information sessions for students and parents, counseling
support, and translation services.

Solicit or contribute donations for the auction
Here’s a sampling of some of the wonderful items on the auction wish list. Our college-bound kids
and college office need you!
• Host a walking tour of your neighborhood, including tea or lunch. From Astoria to
Hell’s Kitchen, what better way to celebrate the thrill of our city while getting to know
other Stuyvesant families?
• Donate services! If you have a talent or know someone with one, then there’s surely a
buyer for these services and more: simple will preparation, installation of a computer or
sound system, college counseling, dentistry, picture framing, cooking lessons, interior
decoration consultations…
• Arrange lunch with a celebrity. Do you know a chef, a performer, a scientist, an author,
an artist who’d be willing to support our school?
• Involve the teachers. Fund an afternoon at the movies with a popular teacher.
• Let your creativity soar – make a gift basket. Popular themes include books,
chocolate-related, and even socks!
• Donate jewelry, accessories, and electronics. Unneeded holiday gifts will find a new
home at the auction!
• Solicit gift certificates from hair salons, stores and other supporting merchants.
• Promote the cuisines of NYC – ask your favorite restaurants to donate dinners or
gift certificates.
• Donate tickets to choice events – sporting, theater, musical.
Underwrite the night.
Whether or not you can be with us that night, consider underwriting the event. Your support in
advance of the dinner allows every dollar we raise to go toward supporting college services. A
$25 contribution allows a school staff member to attend as our guest. $100 helps us get the word
out. $200 will underwrite a portion of our entertainment. Sponsor an entire table for $425.
All contributions to our auction or underwriting efforts will be gratefully acknowledged in the
Benefit Program and in the PA Bulletin.
