We look forward to a great week of rugby with great contests between all teams. The tournament has a remarkable history that began back in 1921 and has evolved over the years as the premier competition within the Waikato for schoolboy rugby. Many who have played in the Gwynne Shield competition have gone on to be Waikato senior representative players and All Blacks. For many this will be the first experience of representative rugby and could lead to being selected for further honours with the Waikato team at the NRM Roller Mills Tournament, to be held this year in Whangarei during September/October. I wish to thank the Cambridge Sub Union for the offer to again host the tournament during the week and the Finals Day on Sunday. Thanks also to the Waikato Rugby Supporters Club and Waikato Rugby Union who are the generous sponsors of the tournament. This is a great opportunity for players to be part of a team where fair play and comradeship combine to create a memorable week on and off the field. Enjoy the occasion.
