First, the Lord Jesus directs him and the others how and where to fish. They succeed greatly—a Messiah catch for Messiah nourishment. Then Simon Peter is asked three times “Do you love me?” He answers wholeheartedly, and Jesus says, “Follow me!” We, too, seek Messiah nourishment in the Messiah Eucharist. With Peter, can we answer wholeheartedly to the “Follow me,” “Fish for people” of Christ Jesus? Text, Philip J. Sandstrom, STD © 2000, OCP. All rights reserved. Texto: Philip J. Sandstrom, STD © 2000, OCP. Derechos reservados. Christian Symbols 101 We see these images in stained glass windows, websites and other religious literatures. But where did they come from and what do they mean? Here is some background… Ichthus: The Gospels took place around the Sea of Galilee, so fishing images resonated deeply with early Christians. According to St. Augustine, by the fourth century the Greek letters for this word were used as an symbol for “Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior”. Tradition says that firstcentury Christians undergoing persecution used the ichthus as a way to communicate where meetings would be held. 6 Healing Service Thursday, May 19, 2016 Sacred Heart Church 2140 N.
