News from the Office ™ Volume VIII, Issue 1 Spicer Wealth Management 2655 Commons Blvd., Suite 110 Beavercreek, OH 45431 Phone: 937-426-3836 www.spicerwealth.com Bryon K. Spicer Wealth Advisor Your success and happiness lies in you. Resolve to keep happy, and your joy and you shall form an invincible host against difficulties. ~ Helen Keller Which could be a sign of BRYON winter in Ohio—cutting down a Christmas tree or mowing your lawn? How about BOTH! That’s right, who would have believed Bryon was mowing his lawn and chopping down Christmas trees! Is global warming to blame? Who knows, but it sure has been a strange early winter. Strangeness aside, the Spicer Family took a day and went to Young’s Christmas Tree Farm and cut down their holiday tree. It’s this tradition Brent looks forward to each year and is fun for all. Kay had more fun as she cranked up two ovens, grabbed sister Karen and pumped up the cookie baking festivities. I could tell Karen missed Bryon’s protective oversight as he was in California vetting a new company to provide back office support for the firm. Having had his flight cancelled due to fog and ice, I spotted the weary traveler bunking in the airport hotel until the following day. Poor Bryon! The holiday spirit stirred in Brent recently when he shopped for him mom only to discover she had already bought the same gift for herself!! Using her Kohl’s cash during her after Thanksgiving shopping extravaganza, she thought nothing of buying her favorite things. Well, all were dismayed when she popped her car trunk to reveal the duplicate gift…good going Kay; the boys are sure having a hard time shopping for ya! Oh well, all appreciated Bryon’s longstanding prime rib gift recently as he hosted Christmas dinner for 18 family members. What a blessing it is for Bryon and Kay to host these traditional family dinners. Dinner was served with heaping scoops of laughs and kidding, just the way they like it! Spicer family events seem to multiply like rabbits! Several more gatherings have taken place the past several weeks which keeps them busier than ever. The most fun was at Kathy’s surprise 60th birthday dinner at Fleming’s. Although they didn’t jump out of a cake, Kathy’s cousins from Florida were still the highlight of the evening. Jean and Cindy travelled many miles to share their love and they’d have it no other way! Speaking of love, Bryon’s landscaper is sharing his love as he sets the pavers and assembles the fire pit and grilling stations! Way to go Mr. Landscaper, we can’t wait to see it!! It’s been told that Dick and Kathy sleep in KATHY their party attire due to the celebration sched- ule they keep! That’s right, this duo seems to hop from party to party with no let-up. It’s birthday month in the Shaw household and Dick and Kathy didn’t disappoint. It started with Dick’s mother’s 93rd birthday which was a small gathering at the Oakwood Rehabilitation Center where Dherlys is recuperating from a weeklong stay in the hospital. Dick and Kathy decorated her room with a beautiful poinsettia and a family friend supplied a decorated Norfolk pine which added to the festivities. It was a small celebration with just Dick and Kathy as Bob, Dick’s father, was in the hospital and Michael was busy cooking pizza. Bob was discharged to the Rehabilitation Center the very next day, so at least he and Dherlys will be able to spend some time together during the holidays. Then it was on to Kathy’s 60th birthday. Dick, not to be outdone by Miss Kathy’s party planning abilities, cooked up several surprises for her milestone birthday. He was Bryon K. Spicer, Wealth Advisor • (937) 426-3836 • www.spicerwealth.com right on point when, the day before her birthday, the doorbell range and Kathy answered the door only to find her Florida Cousins Jean and Cindy! The surprise was a delight while Kathy was just a little relieved that it wasn’t a jolly old man in a red suit trimmed with white fur knockin’ on the door! She wasn’t quite ready to come face-to-face with good old St. Nick. A special family dinner at Fleming’s included her mother and sisters Karen and her husband Duane, Kay and Bryon, Kit and Steve, her Florida Cousins (and honorary sisters) Becky and Jeannine. Then the next weekend, which is Dick’s birthday, Dick certainly out did himself. Kathy’s awesome husband and amazing family hosted the most FAB surprise 60th birthday bash in history. Over 80 wonderful friends and loving family members gathered at the Shrine Club in Springfield to kick off her next decade. They dined on brisket, pulled pork, a baked potato bar, green beans and mac n cheese from Rudy’s Smokehouse with white and chocolate cake from Dorothy Lane Market. Michael was very gracious and provided pizza from Mikey’s for all the family and friends to sample. The evening was topped off with live entertainment by Matt Scholp who performs all the great hits of the 50s, 60s and 70s. I must say it was a great 60th birthday celebration! Congrats, Miss Kathy!! Forget about CIA surveillance, we have Elf surveillance in Anna’s house and I don’t know if it’s legal! You see, Anna’s family has a visitor every Christmas season and he’s tiny, stuffed with fiber filling, and invites himself to sit quietly on a shelf in his tidy little elf outfit. This little elf watches over the kids and reports back to Santa, talk about low-tech surveillance! Ironically though, each night he’s the one who seems to get into mischief. Reports are coming in that one night he strung toilet paper over Collin in his bed, got into a box of cookies and then he opened a box of candy canes that were to be tree decorations. Young enough to still think Mr. Elf reports to Santa, Collin has been on his BEST behavior. I must say this little visitor has been working wonders for Anna and she’s taking full advantage! Small and rural, Wilmington College was the first stop on Sid’s college tour and she’s even been accepted and offered some scholarship dough. I think she liked it but there are move visits to make. Basketball season is bouncing along with Jackson getting some playing time since he’s leg’s on the mend. Sid’s team made the newspaper and Collin’s haven’t started yet. Rah, Rah, Ree…go teams! Christmas was magical and Anna’s home was filled to the brim with family, food, and fun. Presents galore and time with family….just perfect I’d say! Happy New Year to you all! ANNA Miss Megan gave MEGAN her college exams the knockout punch and feels real good about it! I’m sure she dazzled and I can tell she is very happy to be done with classes for a few weeks! While on holiday break she is looking forward to spending time ‘round the Christmas tree and dinner table! Opening presents Christmas morning with her family then going to Aunt Kay and Uncle Bryon’s house for Christmas dinner, is all she really has planned…and that’s plenty for this gal! Totally surprised is how Megan described her Aunt Kathy’s reaction to the 60th birthday surprise party Uncle Dick hosted. Fun and laughs filled the air and it was a great night for all. We’ll check-in again on Miss Megan soon. Stay tuned! Originally from Middletown Amy Gephart is the latest addition to the Spicer Wealth family filling the seat as our Medicare Supplement Specialist. FUN BRYON Kia ora...or greetings depending where you are. Steam and mud bubbles gently escaping from the earth, a geyser and aboriginal Maori people... Fun Bryon recently found himself in Rotorua, New Zealand on a magical mystical 30 day journey in the land down under! He was quick to learn that Rotorua’s geothermal system and volcanic activity dominate central New Zealand. Fun Bryon wanted to visit a place with a very long name, so be sure to check out the background name behind his picture. That’s one long name! After seeing thousands of sheep and visiting the House of Parliament in Wellington, New Zealand, Fun Bryon headed for the continent of Australia. While there is no proof, I heard that he rode a camel, visited Uluru, had an outdoor dinner in the desert in Alice Springs, and fed kangaroos. He also toured the Sydney Opera House and was able to pet a koala bear at the Taronga Zoo in Sydney, Australia. In his spare time, he snorkeled on the Great Barrier Reef then went by boat through a glowworm cave and rode on the historic steamer, the TSS Earnslaw. No one knows where Fun Bryon may turn up next, but I heard he is not taking any 15 hour plane rides in the near future! Travelling soon? Don’t forget to take Fun Bryon and bring back photos of his adventures. We can’t wait to see what he’s up to next, can you?! Call Kathy at 937-426-3836 for all the details and the Fun Bryon posters and let the sharing begin! W hat do mechanical ice cube trays and Dayton RiverScape MetroPark have in common? Nothing you say!
