Problem:
The shell of this jacket contains a vinyl resin that is meant
to impart water repellency to the fabric. When drycleaned
in perchloroethylene, the plasticizing agents used in the
vinyl resin dissolve, causing the fabric to become stiff and
boardy . This leaves the jacket in an unwearable condition.
Responsibility:
The manufacturer’s. This jacket has failed when drycleaned
in accordance with the care label instructions.
Drycleaner:
Since there is an issue with the serviceability of this jacket,
the customer should be advised of the potential problem,
and a signed release of liability should be obtained prior to
processing. We have no data concerning the serviceability
of this jacket in alternative solvents.
Recommendation:
If this garment fails when drycleaned, it should be returned
to the place of purchase for a refund or exchange.
