Fun Facts About Easter
 Easter always falls between March 22nd and April 25th.
 Chocolate eggs were made for the first time in Europe, in the
19th century. To date, they remain one of the favorite Easter treats.
 Easter is the top-selling confectionery holiday in the west, second to
Halloween.
 On Easter, 76% people bite off the chocolate bunny ears first, while
5% bite the feet first and 4% eat the tail first.
 The custom of giving eggs at Easter dates back to the time of the
Egyptians, Persians, Gauls, Greeks and Romans.
 As per the Guinness Book of World Records, the largest Easter egg
made to date, was just over 25-ft high and was made of chocolate
and marshmallow. Weighing at 8,968 lbs., the egg was supported by
an internal steel frame.
 Egg, bonfires & candles, lily, cross, palm, bunny and lamb are the
most popular symbols of Easter.
 In the mid-20th century, it used to take as much as 27 hours to
make a marshmallow peep. Today, the time has been reduced to six
minutes.

Below are a few updates that we’ve worked on as a team to accomplish over
the last several months.

The new landscape contract has been approved by the Board and Down
To Earth has moved quickly to address our concerns. We have also contracted a landscape consultant to assist in monitoring the work performed
by our new landscape company. Down To Earth has started repairs to our
irrigation system and will be moving on to planting and mulching in the
month of May.

We have had some repairs completed on the walking trail and there are plans for additional
cleanup and beautification. We are currently investigating mosquito abatement for this area
to make the walking trail more enjoyable. We are confident these enhancements will make
the trail a scenic and enjoyable amenity for our residents to enjoy.

The painting project at Southshore Falls has been completed. We still have many months of
pressure washing to do, but the good news is, we now have a list of past, current and future
painting and pressure washing projects. We plan to use this list along with our reserve
study to ensure projects are planned and completed in accordance with the schedule when
applicable.

We have pond plantings that will begin in late April and some minor removal planned to
correct some overgrowth.

There are surveillance upgrades being discussed, and solar power repairs have been bid out
to a number of vendors.

We will be working with a new vendor to maintain the community waterfall once the terms
of the contract have been agreed upon.

Lifestyle Corner
I am so excited for the return of warm weather. This month I have transitioned
many activities and events outdoors. Be sure to join us for the kick off to Spring
on April 25th for a friendly game of pool volley ball in the Eagles Nest Pool. In
addition, we will be hosting Wine Down Wednesday’s and Monday Mixers
outdoors under the lanai once a month.
Residents, get ready. This summer, we will host the Southshore Falls Summer
Olympic Pool Party with a combination of pool volleyball, water relay, hula
challenges, a dance off, water archery, and many more. Practice up on your
skills and stay tuned, more details to follow. Also, calling all “Parrot Heads” this Spring we will
welcome the tribute for Jimmy Buffet. Tickets will be available soon.
I wish you all a very happy, healthy and exciting April, and I look forward to seeing you around.

Doggy Corner
The following reminders are offered to improve courtesy
and respect to other residents;
Please remember the Hillsborough County ordinance
states that dogs are to be on a leash when outside of a residence and owners are responsible for dog cleanup and
proper disposal.
 Please limit the length of your dogs leash to 6 feet for
better control of your pet, and to prevent encounters with
other animals and residents. Please be courteous to restrain
your dog away from fellow residents unless the resident
initiates contact and desires further interaction with the
friendly dog.
 Please consider the weather as we approach summer.
Please refrain from leaving your dog in the lanai/vehicles
for lengthy periods of time throughout the day to prevent
health concerns or disturbances amongst other neighbors.

We greatly appreciate your understanding, and efforts to keep our community clean, safe, and dog
friendly.

Landscape
I wanted to personally thank everyone for your warm welcome into the community. Our maintenance crews, technicians and managers have all commented to me how friendly
and welcoming they have felt since we started maintaining
the property. Everyone I have spoken with has a real desire
to see Southshore Falls look marvelous and that is our true
desire and serious goal at Down To Earth. The team we are
assembling is professional and passionate about making the
world around us, just a little bit more beautiful.
When we started maintenance and enhancement projects for Southshore Falls, we
concentrated on restoring our bed lines and tree rings. Our next step was to prune
and trim plants to increase health, achieve separation between plants and highlight
the beauty of the property’s landscaping. Our maintenance crews have already taken
one trimming and pruning seminar and will increase our skill level with upcoming seminars. We have completed one complete mowing cycle and have started weekly
mowing in March.
With the strong growing season almost upon us, our fertilization and pest group will be
applying a fertilizer application to the property’s trees, shrubs and plants. The next
step will be a turf fertilizer application and one to control insects, like chinch bugs
which become active in the coming weeks. Also our F and P managers and technicians will be available to answer any questions you might have about our program and
what we expect in the coming months for the property.
The strong growing season also increases the plants’ demands for water. Our irrigation managers and technicians will be going through the entire property and correcting
any irrigation issue dealing with the spray and rotor systems. Irrigation specialists
have been working on the computer control system for irrigation and new programs
have been built to efficiently bring water to all of the plants on property.
Again, thank you for such a warm welcome. If you have any issues or concerns,
please, use our customer service system to schedule a meeting with me. I would love
to speak with you.

Featured Resident of the Month
Tara Profitt, a thirteen year old girl with a passion for sports, a natural athlete at heart and the
ability to excel at any sport. On July 7th, 1979 her life would change forever, as she experienced
a freak diving accident. Her father rescued her from the pool, and started CPR until paramedics
arrived and was quickly rushed to the hospital. A short time later, she would receive bone
chilling news that could potentially crush her dreams as an athlete. Tara suffered severe neck
damage causing her to become paralyzed from the chest down. With only slight movement of
her hands and arms Tara grew concerned that she may never practice sports again. She was hospitalized for a lengthy time, and spent months in rehabilitation to gain strength. With no end in
sight and her love for sports seemingly impossible, her therapist encouraged her to join wheelchair athletics. Her hopes and dreams were restored and that fire she once felt for sports would
soon come to life. Tara began playing table tennis, and quickly exceled. Her dreams to become
an athlete would soon become her reality.
Tara went on to enroll at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio and became an advocate for
her disability traveling the United States. Meanwhile, she would continue to practice table tennis, competing locally, and perfecting her craft. She exceled quickly, and after only six months
of practice she qualified to become a member of the Paralympic team representing the United
States in Stoke Mandeville England. She would then
continue on, to become a gold medalist in
the 2009 Parapan American games, in 2011 won 4th place,
2012 participated in the summer Paralympics, and 2014 competed in Costa Rica earning 3rd place. She has toured Costa Rica, Las Vegas, Slovenia, and Rotterdam for tournaments, and competes twice a year as a member of Parapan.
This experience proved to her that there is no obstacle in life big enough to steal her passion.
Tara, now a wife and mother shares this passion with junior table tennis athletes and continues
to share her love for table tennis amongst residents at Southshore Falls. Tara is truly an inspiration and such a blessing to our community. Her drive and determination is infectious, and her
story gives us strength to push us to our fullest potential regardless of how tough or impossible
things may seem. With a little encouragement, and a big heart all things in life are possible!
Thank you Tara, for being our featured resident of the month, and for your positive influence in
our community and beyond!
