Commodore’s Comments
Has anyone seen where the summer went? The leaves are
turning and “Lord Football” awakens. Time flies when we all
are enjoying the many facets of boating. We had members
doing the annual Racine rendezvous. There were members
bringing their new boats into the harbor and others selling
their extra boat. Life sure is not stagnant here at SMYC. We
have 22 new regular members this season thanks to the
hard work by Karen Kilman.
Our social activities have been the source of legend. We had an awesome
Open House on the weekend of August 28th through 30th. Thank you to
Barb and Mickey Nowak and their crew for Steak Night on the 28th.
Paul Mozejewski was new to the club this year and took on the challenge of Pig Roast. Paul and all of his “minions” did an outstanding job, just
wish the weather would have cooperated. On Sunday the 30th we had the
“Hangover Breakfast” sponsored by Debbie Brunk and her crew. I saw a
few of us who were moving kind of slow. We had the “Fish Boil” on Saturday of the Labor Day weekend. The food was outstanding. Our fishermen
provided the attendees with samples of their catch. Cheryl Rybka really
pulled everyone together for a great event. On September 25th we are having “Yachtoberfest” with music by the Squeezette’s. On Saturday the 26th
we are having “Rib Fest” sponsored by Ron and Jon Ilk. There will also be
live music. So come down to the club.
Thank you to Dan Zweck for the new stone planter on the southwest side of
the club. Mary Jo Haag has really added some color to the outside of the
club.
Haul out is just around the corner. If you have any concerns or questions on
what is needed for storing your boat on the club grounds, see Bryan Gahan
our Fleet Captain for assistance.
Remember that our annual club meeting is the 3rd Monday in October. This
meeting is where we elect the Officers and Board members for next year.

Junior’s Update
I would like to announce the new Junior Advisors for next year: Krissy
Schroeder and Ryan Rybka Sailing Instructors for next year will continue to be: Dave Blake & Adam Hock. I have put in 5-6 years as the advisor with Barb Nowak and we will both be stepping down as our kids/nieces
have grown up.
This year's lunch at pig roast made a small profit around $200. The 50/50
raffle was won by Kathy Manna $434! Renee, one of the bartenders that
is usually working on Tuesday during the kids sailing, donated a Christian
Dior watch to raffle. Bob Smith was the winner of the watch and Juniors
made $213! THANK YOU RENEE!
Thank you to all the parents for your support during the sailing season by
helping with the boats and providing dinner for the sailors and parents. We
will have our End of the Year Sailing party at Dave's house on Sun, Sept
13th from 10am-? See you there! Please contact Krissy Schroeder with any
Junior related paperwork, questions or membership @ 414-418-6737 or

Pig Roast Recap
Thanks to everyone who joined us at the SMYC Open House and Pig Roast on Saturday
August 29th. Unfortunately the weather, earlier in the day, was against us again this year.
Despite that, a large number of people stuck it out and once again made this annual event
a success.
This year we made a comeback with a Pirate theme as requested by many members, and
there was no lack of participation in that department. All of the decorations and costumes
were spectacular. This event is a huge undertaking and would not be possible without the help and dedication
from so many volunteers. It is hard to list everyone who helped to bring this together, and I apologize if I miss
any of the key people. But huge thanks go out to ALL that donated their time, or to the many raffle basket and
silent auction items.
Special Thanks to: Dona & Mike Cieczka – for once again going above and beyond, on all the inside and outside
decorations, I have never met a team with more vision and dedication. Karen (KiKi) Kilman- for helping me to get
started, checking my work, and keeping me on track, along the way. Mary Karwacki – your ability to put together
the raffle and auction items from almost nothing was like watching an artist. Thanks also for calling out all the
auction and raffle items at the band break. Steve Steinhaus and crew- for getting up at the crack of dawn in the
cold rain and pulling off a spectacular whole pig , hams and chickens. Jane Wisniewski and crew- all the delicious food that you put together and served, not sure how you do it, but it was fantastic. Carol Baltutis and Bob
Smith- thank you for taking care of the money till late into the night, and also again in the morning. Jumping in to
help with raffle ticket and t-shirt sales was also a great help. Jon Nowicki and crew- the outside bar was a huge
success, shake of the day also worked out really well. Dan Moshinski and Randy Kempowski- you guys took the
outside raffle into your hands and put together a huge amount of drawings that worked great and got lots of attention. Kyle & Debbie Brunk- the Hangover Breakfast was appreciated by all. Definitely needed after the long
night. Thank you, Katy Steinhaus for help with the raffles, Marc & Cheryl Rybka for food prep, serving, and anything else that came up. Fish and the cleanup crew for the club grounds. Dan Zweck for helping me with multiple
dilemmas, the inside bar, and getting the bartenders food. Sunday clean up started early, Jon Nowicki, and me
got an early start on the take down and clean up. We were then joined by, Steve Steinhaus, John Groth, John
Haag, Marc Rybka, Dan Moshinski, and Fred Bohman to clean up all the equipment and take it back to
storage.
Again, thanks to everyone. Paul Mozejewski

Fish Fest Thanks!
On behalf of the Fish Feast Crew we would like to thank the many individuals who
made our evening the successful event we had hoped it would be. Our goal was to
create a fun event and produce some revenue for our club. We were amazed at the
turnout and all the positive support we received. Our members also turned out in
droves to assist. Even those who had prearranged plans showed their support- Thank
you to: Sam for prepping and donating fish for the boil, Kiki for getting the word out,
Dona for helping with the tables, and to Mary for baking her amazing carrot
cake!!!
A big thank you to the fishermen who donated fish and the many individuals who
helped prepare it. A special thank you goes out to: Our Grilling Team- Rich, Lisa and “Fish” – (also our festivity
captain), our Fish Boil Team- Butch and Jeff, and our Fish Smoking Team- Jeff, Wayne, and Paul. Thank you to
Barb, Jayne, Denise, Meg, Tom, Marc, Renee, and Sandy for helping with the food, the hall, and the entire event- from setup to takedown!! Lastly, but by no means least- Thank you to Mickey and our bartenders for a
very “spirited’ evening!!
Thanks Again!!!
Steak Night Recap
SMYC Steak Night was a record breaker! 146 steaks were served! The most so far.
Speaking of record breaking, I believe our morning prep crew also set a new record. The potatoes were cleaned and
wrapped, dishes washed, mushrooms cleaned, salads made and what seemed like several bushels of veggies were sliced
and diced in a matter of hours. Thanks to the ever reliable Meg & Tom Ciurlik , Donna Conant and Peter Russo along with
new helpers Chris & Scott Wallis & Jim Buss. Awesome job!!
The hall was decked out for the weekend and looked great thanks to the beautiful bows and flowers made by Karen Puetz,
the wine glass tower created by Amber Zweck & our bartender Renee as well as all the fab pirate décor created by Dona &
Mike Cieczka. Look out Bobby Flay. Grill Masters Steve Fivenson and Rob Kilman once again did a fantastic job,
everyone THANKs YOU!
The evening crew also did a superb job. Wayne Gestwicki and Bob Sandretto were the dishwashers of the evening. I kid you
not. The two of them washed and dried all the dishes, silverware and pots and pans. And, they enjoyed it!! Cheryl &Roxanne
our origami artists were back again delighting many with their “foil art”. A big thanks to our servers, runners and bussers
Jayne Wisniewski (aka Chim Chimney), Jill Gestwicki, Karen Puetz, Amber & Dan Zweck, Fred & Brenda Bohman,
Bobbi Sandretto, Chris & Scott Wallis, Adrienne Minerick and Jim Buss. THANK YOU!
Thanks to all the members and quests that attended and supported your club. We hope you had as much fun as we did. The
profit from the dinner was approximately $1,100.00.
