Sete Lagoas, Minas Gerais' large industrial center, is marked by the
natural beauty of its lakes, the enviable view from the top of the
Serra de Santa Helena for the whole city, Gruta Rei do Mato and
for being the birthplace of Mauro Faccio Gonçalves, the
unforgettable "Zacarias," character from "Os Trapalhões". Besides
Zacarias, Sete Lagoas also has as dear son the sportsman, Franck
Caldeira.

Gruta Rei do Mato
Stately and grand, the fourth hall of the cave is 100 meters
long, which features two parallel columns, and perfectly
cylindrical harmonics, unique in the world. Several cave
paintings can be seen in the so called "Grutinha", besides the
cave entrance.

After visiting the Gruta Rei do Mato continue in the BR040
towards Brasilia. Turn right on roundabout for Cordisburgo. Enter
MG 231 - Via Alberto Ramos, continue another 27 km to the
Gruta do Maquiné.
Cordisburgo
The big attraction in Cordisburgo is Gruta do Maquiné, which received the
three star rating, the highest of its kind in the world. The Danish scientist
Peter W. Lund found the cave in 1835.
The city is also known as the birthplace of the writer João Guimarães Rosa,
author of masterpieces such as Sagarana and Grande Sertão: Veredas. The
tribute is the Guimarães Rosa House Museum.

hills and its plains; therefore, there is called Vista

A Gruta de Maquiné
The grotto has seven explored halls and
lighting preparation and the walkways
allow visitors to safely glimpse Maquiné's
wonders, where the entire route is
accompanied by a local guide. You can
visit the Salão do Vestíbulo, Salão das
Colunas, Salão do Trono, Salão do
Carneiro, Salão dos Lagos, Salão das Fadas
and Salão Dr. Lund.

Gruta do Maquiné was formed by the action of water on limestone.
Limestone is a sedimentary rock that through the millennial action of
water, forms underground spaces known as grottos, caves or limpets.
In these spaces happens teh formation of mineral deposits, especially
calcite, which is a calcium carbonate. Calcite is usually white or
transparent, having different colors and shades by the presence of
impurities and other minerals.
These mineral deposits are called speleothems, which are basically mineral
ornaments found in the underground environment. The main speleothems
are stalactites (found on the ceiling), stalagmites (found on the floor),
columns (where stalactites meet with stalagmites), curtains, runoff,
travertine dams, etc..

Guimarães Rosa House Musem
This museum is the house where the writer spent part of his
childhood. The construction, from the 19th century, is typical of the
residences in the interior of Minas, with ground floor and reserved
for trade. It was at this place that the father of the author of Grande
Sertão: Veredas,Mr. Florduardo Pinto Rosa, known as 'Mr. Flo',
maintained his 'store'.

Grande Sertão Portal
Tribute to writer João Guimarães Rosa, Portal consists of six bronze
cowbo sculptures riding their horses, a dog and Guimarães itself. The
group is surrounded by a steel plate portico in natural size. Before
casting, was used 3,500 kilos of bronze pieces sculpted in clay.
The author of the work, the artist Leo Santana began to idealize it in
2008, the centennial year of the writer's birth.
