About Riding the Bus
Welcome Aboard!
Long Beach Transit takes you practically anywhere you want to go in Long Beach any day of the week. Bus stops are located nearly every two blocks for your convenience. Best of all, with a regular fare of only $1.25 and even less for seniors
and passengers with disabilities, there's no better way to stretch your budget.
Inside are complete maps and schedules for all Long Beach Transit routes, plus
lots of helpful information to make riding the bus as easy as possible. As you use
these schedules, it is good to remember that heavy traffic, passenger loads, adverse
weather or other factors may prevent buses from running on time. We recommend
that you allow extra travel time.
We Can Help Plan Your Trip Our friendly transit advisors are standing by to help you plan your trip. We'll be happy to give you
schedule and route information and tell you exactly where the bus stops in your neighborhood. The
customer service phone lines are open 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 8:00 a.m. to
3:00 p.m. on Saturdays. Call (562) 591-2301 for prompt help. If you would like a Transit Guide mailed to
you, just let us know when you call. For group travel, please call our Field Trip Coordinator.
How To Ride the Bus Signs on the top front of the bus above the windshield tell you the route number, the major streets the
bus runs on, and the final destination of the bus. Read these signs to be sure you board the right bus. If
you're not sure, just ask the driver.
It’s a good idea to make note of the vehicle number of the bus– it’s the painted 4-digit number on the
outside and inside. That number may come in handy if you need to report something about your trip.
Enter the bus through the front door. Please be sure to have the exact fare ready as you board. Our drivers do not carry change. If you need to transfer to another bus system to complete your one-way
trip, please buy an interagency transfer when you pay your fare. Our fare boxes accept coins and dollar
bills; but like the drivers, they don't make change! All sales at the farebox are final. Please check your
pass/transfer before being seated. After you put your coins into the farebox, hold onto the handrails
as you find a seat, as the bus may begin to move before you sit down. If you are disabled or a senior
and need extra time boarding the bus, be sure to let the driver know. Remain seated and please do not
change seats while the bus is in motion.
Then, as the bus approaches your stop, signal the driver that you want off by
pulling the cord, or pressing the yellow strips along the side of the bus next
to the window. Please give the driver enough notice so that he may make a
smooth stop. Please remain in your seat or hold the handrail until bus comes to
a complete stop. If you loaded your bike, be sure to tell the driver that you are
getting your bike, before you get off the bus.
When getting off the bus, please exit through the rear door. Just push the yellow strip on the door and hold the doors open. Carefully step off the bus onto
the sidewalk. Be careful – the doors close automatically!

Long Beach Transit is Fully Accessible All Long Beach Transit buses and vessels are wheelchair accessible. Passengers can use the wheelchair ramps at all boarding locations with the exception of those
listed below. Each vehicle has two wheelchair positions. If they are occupied, our operators will stop
and let you know to catch the next bus. During the trip, wheelchairs must be secured with the restraint
equipment provided. A seatbelt and chair restraint are available upon request. Any item that prevents safe
securing of a wheelchair on the bus is not permitted. This includes all personal items. Wheelchairs must
have all items stowed or placed in a way that would not obstruct the bus driver from properly securing the
wheelchair. The following boarding locations are not wheelchair accessible:
• Alamitos Bay Landing (AquaLink)
• 7th Street @ CSULB, westbound (Route 81)
• Broadway @ Temple Ave., NE corner (Route 111, 112)
• Marina Drive @ Marina Drive NW corner (Route 131)
BUS
• Pacific Coast Hwy. @ Grand Ave., SE corner (all Route 170s)
Segways that are used as a disability mobility device should be secured and passenger cannot remain standing on Segway while the bus is in motion and must pay appropriate fare.
For those who are unable to use Long Beach Transit’s fixed routes service for their transportation needs, Access Services, the ADA complementary paratransit service, may be what
you’re looking for. In accordance with Title VI of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, Long Beach
Transit is committed to ensuring that no person shall be excluded from the equal distribution of its services
and amenities on the basis of race, color, national origin, language proficiency, or economic status. To
schedule an appointment for an in-person assessment with a professionally trained analyst to determine
your eligibility for paratransit services, call Access Services 1-800-827-0829 (TDD 1-800-827-1359).
Long Beach Transit Dial-A-Lift is a local supplementary transportation service for residents of Long Beach,
Lakewood and Signal Hill. Applicants must be 18 years or older, and have a permanent mobility impairment that prevents use of Long Beach Transit’s fixed route bus system with or without mobility aids. Applicants may apply for Dial-A-Lift membership by calling Long Beach Dial-A-Lift at 562-591-8753.

Interagency Transfer – Must be purchased upon boarding. All sales at the farebox are final.
Please check your pass/transfer before being seated.
1. An Interagency Transfer is issued for 50¢ upon receipt of adequate cash fare or a valid pass. Only one Interagency Transfer is issued per each paid fare to complete a one-way trip.
2. Interagency Transfers are not sold to passengers who ride free, for example, wheelchair and blindcustomers, and are not sold to Passport passengers riding for free.
3. The Interagency Transfer is valid on Metro, OCTA, LADOT, Norwalk Transit, Torrance Transit, Carson Circuit, Gardena Bus Lines, Montebello Bus Lines, Santa Monica's Big Blue Bus, Foothill Transit,
The Bellflower Bus, Paramount Shuttle and the Light Rail Lines.
4. Interagency Transfers issued by the above transit carriers are accepted on Long Beach Transit buses
as long as the time, date and direction of travel (one-way) are valid. Transfer is valid where both
agencies connect. Metro rail tickets are valid with a Metro to Muni transfer ticket.
5.Because OCTA does not issue transfers, LBT and OCTA honor each others' Day Pass in lieu of an Interagency Transfer from the closest connecting intersection for one ride only.

Long Beach Transit bus.
Please do not put the transfer in the farebox! Give the transfer to the bus driver. For more information
on transfer policies or fares, call our friendly transit advisors at (562) 591-2301.
