• Any application of a technology in aeronautics is the combination of three
critical aspects:
Challenging performance requirements often at the edge of
technology capability
Stringent qualification/certification requirements to enhance safety
Interaction and optimization of technical features which could be
independently solved in other application fields
• Maturation time of technologies and aeronautical product lifetime is much
longer than in any application field
Technology development time from initial maturation level (TRL1) up
to TRL 9 (entering into service) lasts much more than 10 years
Product lifetime (aircraft, engines, systems) span normally over 30+
years
• Every solution shall be sustainable in the long term under any market,
technical, production, product support aspect

• Aeronautics shall answer to challenging customer and regulation
requirements with issues, market dimension, timing smaller and/or
quite different than others (automotive is a typical example)
• Aeronautics is in a continuous quest for best solutions and ideas,
wherever they come from, either to develop dedicated solutions or to
adap solutions from other fields to our special needs and constraints
• An open minded exchange of ideas, needs and proposals between
the EU aeronautical partners and A4M platform is envisaged
Aeronautics would carry its issues to a set of partners which so far
might be not aware of aeronautical issues and possibilities
• The initiative will enhance the envisaged cooperation between themes
strongly supported by H2020 and open new opportunities we are not
yet aware of.
