ASSOCIATION OF OKLAHOMA GENERAL CONTRACTORS 636 NE 41st Street I Oklahoma City, Okla. 73105 (405) 763.5200 I F (405) 609.8814 Bobby Stem, Executive Director (405) 763.5222 I [email protected] Courtney Jones, Controller (405) 763.5252 I [email protected] Trump vs Clinton What does it mean for us? Obviously the President of the United States has a direct impact on all of our lives. But how does it impact our local politics? Believe it or not, the election of a President influences the next open race for Governor of Oklahoma. Historically if a Republican is elected, it increases the chances of a democrat being elected. I am not saying that the chances become “probable”- just more likely. If a Democrat wins the Presidency, then a Republican typically has a stronger showing. This obviously has a lot to do with the candidates- even the presence of a third party candidate. This is one of the reasons we will be watching the November elections with a watchful eye. It is our direct job to begin to anticipate who the candidates for Governor might be, and begin to educate them on infrastructure investment in Oklahoma. Just for fun, we recently polled YOU the membership to see the “attitude” of our industry. You may find the results below interesting… FOR PRESIDENT Trump 83% 117 votes Hillary 17% 24 votes FOR GOVERNOR Lamb 32% Boren 14% Bridenstine 13.5% Undecided 40% Sincerely, Bobby Stem Executive Director YOUR AOGC Casey Davison, Director of Membership (405) 763.5230 I [email protected] www.WeBuildOklahoma.com 1 46 votes 20 votes 19 votes 57 votes Please be a part of the 2016 CURRENT MEMBERS Name Company Name Rod Abbott Sherwood Construction Jeffre Barker HUB Taylor Barnes CEC Paula Best Best Dump Trucking Lee Cobb Poe & Associates Geoff Covalt CEC John Curtis Sherwood Construction Jerry Douglas AOGC Jerry Edgin Poe & Associates Ray Feightner Cummins Construction Riley Flatt Frontier Bridge Spencer Flatt Frontier Bridge Kermit Frank Dolese Doug Glen CEC Marty Hepp CEC Bill Hoffman JOB Construction Tom Hudson Tom Hudson Paving Steven Johnson CEC Ronnie Lane Warren CAT Jay Lemon Haskell Lemon Construction NEW AGC PAC PLAN Name Company Name Larry Lemon Haskell Lemon Construction Robert Meadors Traffic Signals Dan Meadors Traffic Signals Paul Moore Insurica Ken Morrison Diamondback Steel Alma Pickle Advanced Workzone Services Tim Purkeypile Poe & Associates Dillon Rosenhammer Insurica Mike Ross Insurica Todd Saxton Manhattan Road & Bridge David Sherwood Sherwood Construction David Streb Poe & Associates Reggie Sullivan Overland Corporation John Thomas Advanced Workzone Services Charlie Thomason Maxwell Supply Barney Welch Associated Underwriters Ken Wert Haskell Lemon Construction Gregory Wilson CEC Associates- Your PAC Membership is $500. Jordan Bohler Jordan Bohler is a full time student working part time and has been going to college since 2012. Jordan is going to Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology (OSUIT). He is currently going to school for Civil Engineering Bachelors of Technology, and will be completing his degree fall of 2016. Jordan also has received an associate in Survey as well. Jordan is in Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), ASCE (American Society of Civil Engineers), and SGA (Student Government Association). After college, Jordan plans to take his FE and begin working on designing and inspecting bridges in Oklahoma. Anastasia Boyd I am currently twenty-five years young and live in Stillwater, Oklahoma. My stepfather wore many different hats over the years: plumber; pipefitter; instrumentation fitter; electrician. This gave me the opportunity to hear his side of working the field while being able to admire a job site from a far. Power plants, sewer lines, chemical refinery work and wind farms, all are fascinating to me. This is what sparked my interest in construction, particularly heavier, more industrial, types of construction. I stay so interested with construction because it is interesting as well as relatively financially secure. The types of structures I am interested in are so pertinent to the areas around them and I believe that is a big part of the allure to me, along with all the risk involved. I honestly did not even know that Construction Management was a degree option anywhere, but I knew that is what I wanted to do. There was an article in the Tulsa World about me earning the title of Valedictorian for my graduating class. This same article also unveiled to the public that I had been supporting myself financially since I was sixteen years old when I decided not to move with my parents up to Kansas for my stepfather’s next job. I was tired of moving around and starting over. It was not always easy to keep everything together with school, activities, working and maintaining a household, but I did it without the financial support of my parents. Luckily for me, the Construction Management department at OSU saw the article and came to my school to offer me admittance to the university, as well as the scholarships that would make it financially possible. I accepted. I have been an active member of Construction Management Society. I was elected last November to the position of Philanthropy Chair, a position I am very avid about. I have so much attachment to the program; I want to do everything I can as an individual to help make it better for current and future students. I also worked for the College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology at OSU for almost a year before beginning my internship at Paragon Contractors, LLC this past April. I am enjoying my learning experience at Paragon so far and can only hope that the rest of this summer proves a success. Post-graduation, I hope to find myself gainfully employed at a company I can be happy with, that cares as much about my personal professional success as I do about the success of the company. Thank you to the members of the AOGC for your support in my scholastic and professional endeavors; I appreciate it more than these words can convey. 13 Rachael Cash My name is Rachael Cash and I am from Okmulgee, Oklahoma. I am a Construction Management student as OSUIT in Okmulgee and will graduate August 2016. I attended Okmulgee Public Schools my entire life and graduated high school in 2012. I never imaged myself going to college, but in 2014 my wife and I decided to go together. I am pleased to have made that decision and follow through with it. I want to make something out of myself and feel like I am making a difference not only to myself but to others in need. I want to enjoy my career while in my personal life helping others in need. I wear my heart on my sleeves at times and I try to help others whenever I can. I sometimes care too much and try to please others instead of myself first. I have one dog that is wolf/husky,Nanook. She will be four in November. Branden Grant In January 2009 I started off my career in Industrial construction performing combination pipe welding procedures across the Midwest and Eastern United States. I was concurrently enrolled at Coffeyville Community college while working and obtained my A.A.S of Welding Technology in May of 2009. I continued to weld until my ship out date, for the Army, in September of 2009. I served 3 ½ years in the Army and 1 tour in Afghanistan. Upon separation from the military, I was hired on by Kenny Construction as a construction coordinator. I started on the TransAllegheny 500 k/v Transmission line closeout in West Virginia and finished up in West Texas assisting in the construction of multiple segments of a 345 k/v transmission line for Wind Energy Transmission Texas (WETT). After gaining much knowledge in the management department with Kenny Construction, I had the desire to learn the ground up construction of assembling lattice towers and monopoles. I was then hired on with American Site Builders as a lineman/tower technician, until August of 2013, when I started the Construction Management program at Oklahoma State. While attending Oklahoma State, I have served as the Vice President of the Construction Management Society (2014), Vice President of Sigma Lambda Chi (Construction Management Honor Society) (2016), and President of DBIA (2016). I currently work for Kenny Construction again as a project/construction management intern on the Elecrical Transmission Texas(ETT) transmission line. Throughout the years I have served in the industry, I enjoy the overall process of construction from the beginning to the end. There is always room for innovation and improvement through the management process to increase efficiency. I greatly appreciate the opportunity of receiving the AOGC scholarship. “We are what we repeatedly do, excellence then, is not an act, but a habit.” (Aristotle) Angel Miller I am a student at OSUIT in Okmulgee, OK, pursuing an Associate in Applied Science degree in Construction Management. I will graduate in August of 2016. I am from California, Tracy to be exact. I often tell people that I am from Oakland because no one ever seems to know where Tracy is. I was raised by my mother, Cathy Brumley, and by my aunt, Donna Brumley. They, in my opinion, raised me well. They raised me to be a strong independent woman who is strong of faith and true to who I am. They have since past away, however I carry them with me always. They have and always will influence my life. I have spent my life looking for the place that I belong in this world. For a long time I bounced from one profession to another, trying them on for size, looking for what fits me. I have tried so many trades that I was beginning to think that I would never find a trade that I was truly happy with and enjoyed. I finally found it in construction. I have always enjoyed building things and being a part of something bigger than myself. I have always been drawn to trades that I can build something or be a part of a team to build something. I love everything that has to do with construction, including but not limited to the big yellow toys, concrete and how everything works. I love the fact that you learn something every day. I am currently working for KKT Architects in Tulsa. I deal with RFI’s, Addenda’s, ASI’s, and ASK’s to name a few. I also deal with submittals. I get to learn all about the different phases of the building construction and all of the little details. I often feel like a kid in a candy store when I get to deal with all of the things that are in the construction process. I intend to continue working in this industry and I plan to continue to grow and learn. I strive to be the best that I can in all things. 14 Donald Niebrugge First off I would like to thank the AOGC and their members for selecting me as a scholarship representative. I am thankful to be incorporated by the road building community of Oklahoma. I am a senior Construction Management major at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. I am currently in my fourth summer of work for an AOGC member company. I have been on a variety of projects during that time ranging from highway projects to city streetscape and widening projects. I have accumulated a vast amount of construction experience during those times that I intend to take on to me with my post graduate career. I enjoy grade, drain, and asphalt paving jobs the most. I am committed to continue working on the Oklahoma infrastructure for my career. I will be seeking career opportunities in the fall of 2016. I look forward to continue working with members of the AOGC in the future. Heith A. Renschen Heith A. Renschen is a college student at Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology. He will be a candidate for graduation in summer 2017 with a Bachelor of Technology. He is currently studying Civil Engineering Technology in conjunction with Construction Management. He is a member of American Society of Civil Engineering (ASCE) where they recently participated in the regional bridge building competition that failed due to deflection at the 3,200-pound mark. After completing his degree, Heith will pursue his Professional Engineer license (PE) working within the Heavy Highway industry. Heith grew up on a farm so he is not afraid of hard work. When in High School, he started his construction work experience working with Joe’s Backhoe in Lawton, OK and John T. Jones Construction Fargo, ND from waste water treatment plant in Jamestown, ND, potable water facility in Pryor, OK, paving asphalt in Lafayette, LA. That is where Heith decided he needed to further his education. Heith received an Associates in Distinctive Manufacturing Technology from Oklahoma State University –Okmulgee in 2001 as a member of Phi Theta Kappa. He then worked at Halliburton Energy Service as a lead equipment Designer in Duncan Oklahoma for 15 years. Heith then realized with his rich experience in construction he needed to get back to playing in the dirt. When he is not working or going to school, he is enjoying his life by spending time with his family, hunting, shooting, riding quads, playing with his cattle, or any other activity where he is with nature in the outdoors. Sierra Travis My name is Sierra Travis, and I am a junior at Oklahoma State University. I graduated from Broken Arrow High School in 2013, and I currently reside with my family in Edmond, OK. In grade school, I struggled academically due to challenges with cataracts in both of my eyes. There were times when I did not believe that I could excel in school. However, several people and events in my life influenced my success, especially in the areas of math and science. My father has always been a significant role model in my life, and his hard work and determination inspires me daily. He is a Civil Engineer, and has always worked with roads and bridges. I enjoy accompanying him to engineering meetings and learning about the fascinating world of highway construction and maintenance. My dad has always been one of my biggest supporters, and he has encouraged me to be the best person that I can be. Another person who influenced my love for math and science was my sixth grade math teacher, who inspired me to be persistent, work hard, and never give up. With his encouragement, I began to believe that I could achieve success, and I discovered that I really enjoyed mathematics. During the summer after my sophomore year of high school, I attended the Summer Engineering Academy at the University of Tulsa, where I solidified my decision to pursue a career in the engineering and highway industry. I was able to learn more about the heavy highway industry during my work as an engineering intern for Infrastructure Engineers Inc. During my internship, I worked on many highway projects, including an earthquake bridge inspection project. I also created drawings utilizing AutoCad and MicroStation. My current work environment at the Oklahoma Science Museum allows me to share my love for science with young children. I love to encourage children to pursue their dreams and develop a love for science and mathematics. I am thankful to AOGC for the opportunity to continue pursuing my dream of working in the heavy highway industry. 15 16 SAVE THE DATE AGOC Annual Banquet November 18, 2016 Benghazi Heroes, Authors of 13 Hours & Guest Speakers: Mark “Oz” Geist 17 Kris “Tanto” Paronto Lift more, turn faster and dig more with a Bobcat® skid-steer loader.
