THEME 1: ADVANCES IN VALVE DESIGN, SAFETY, MATERIALS AND COATINGS These sessions will present recent developments in materials and surface protection technologies, emphasizing scientific principles of improvements in corrosion protection and assessment of antifouling and wear-resistant coating systems. Mark your calendar. DAY THEME Wed 27th THEME 2: ACTUATION, CONTROL AND COMMUNICATION Valve actuation and control technologies have witnessed, in the last two decades, a radical evolution in both design and production methodologies. This track will cover the current state-of-the-art which, thanks to the extensive use of digital technologies, has led to the introduction of new and revolutionary communication and sensors’ techniques in process plant management and predictive maintenance. THEME 3: VALVE SEALING PERFORMANCE Process plant managers have a host of good reasons to minimize fugitive emissions from their facilities and reduce the amount of process fluid released into the atmosphere and surrounding environment. Those reasons include keeping employees and neighbours safe, lessening the facility’s environmental impact, complying with increasingly stringent air-quality regulations, optimizing the plant’s energy consumption and maximizing plant operating efficiency. In inviting papers, we would like prospective authors to consider today’s monitoring technologies, stem sealing techniques, packing designs and other advances can be powerful tools in optimising valve sealing performance, including applicable international standards for test and inspection. THEME 4: STANDARDS AND QUALIFICATIONS Speakers are invited to address how today’s valve standards are dynamic documents that reflect sound engineering practice, changes in market demands and changes in technology and manufacturing procedures. THEME 5: BUSINESS AND MANAGEMENT Speakers are welcome from within and outside the industrial valve sector who have insights to share or opinions to voice concerning any aspect of the strategic, business growth, market trends and forecasts of today’s fast changing valve industry. BERGAMO: TWO TOWNS IN ONE With more than 115 thousand citizens, the city of Bergamo is the fourth largest municipality in Lombardy by population and is divided into two distinct parts: the Upper Town (Città Alta), with its charming old town surrounded by 17th-century cyclopic defensive walls, and the Lower Town (Città Bassa), modern and highly urbanized but still characterized by exceptional historic districts. The two parts of the town are connected by funicular/cable car, roads, and foot-paths. THE CHARM OF A CITY-FORTRESS From a geographical point of view, Bergamo is placed on the foot of the mountain and hilly territory of the Orobie Alps, midway between the Brembo and Serio rivers: the old town is set on a system of hills which is nothing but the extreme offshoot of Orobie Alps, before the plain. Bergamo is not only famous with the nickname of Città dei Mille, as it is the one which contributed to Garibaldi’s expedition with a very high number of people belonging to every social class, but also for being one of the 27 Meritorious Citiesof the Italian Risorgimento; for its University of Science, Arts and Letters and the Accademia Carrara, but also for its hyper-technologic pole Kilometro Rosso: between tradition and innovation, the city-fortress smoothly moves towards a future as bright and multifaceted as its ancient past. 27 MAY - BERGAMO: DISCOVER ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT ART CITIES IN LOMBARDY At 9.00 meeting with English speaking guide at Funicolar in the upper city. A 3-hours guide visit of Città Alta and its millenarian story. The tour will include stops by Piazza Vecchia (Old Square), the Town Hall, the Dom’s square, the Dom dedicated to St. Alexander, the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, Colleoni’s Chapel and funerary monument and the Baptistery; the birthplace, grave and museum of Gaetano Donizetti, the fortress and the castle of San Virgilio, the Accademia Carrara or the Exhibition of Palma il Vecchio. 28 MAY - VALCALEPIO AND ISEO LAKE: TASTE AND LANDSCAPE At 9h30 meeting with participants at Urban Center Viale Papa Giovanni XXIII,57. Departure for Valcalepio, by private bus. Guided tour to Acetaia, wineyard and vinery (2 hours). Guests will be accompanied in a cultural route in the canteen, where they will be involved in the discover of the vinification and sparkling techniques. The tour will also include a visit to the S. Stefano historical village, a wine degustation offered by the Testa family, a tour of Iseo and Monteisola. Both tours can also be re-booked for May 29, 30 and 31.
