Roussillon’s municipalities are all advantageously
located within an approximate 30-km radius of Montreal’s
international airport, Canadian National and Canadian
Pacific intermodal terminals, and the Port of Montreal,
one of the most dynamic and competitive ports on the east
coast of North America.
The Roussillon region is truly at the crossroads of Greater Montreal’s major transportation corridors.
It is traversed by Highway 15—the leading trade corridor between Quebec and the United States—
that extends to the St-Bernard-de-Lacolle border crossing, one of the three largest border crossings
in Canada.
Highways 10 and 30 surround the region and link the trucking network with central railways. The current
extension of Highway 30, a southern Montreal beltway, creates substantial economic potential; the future
redevelopment of Route 132 into a large urban boulevard is expected to do the same.

The dock of Côte-Sainte-Catherine dock is located directly on the St. Lawrence Seaway and provides access
to an almost 4,000-km marine highway that connects the Atlantic Ocean to the Great Lakes Region,
North America’s business, industrial and agricultural hub. The port is the departure point for cargo
shipped to mining communities and companies in the Canadian North.
Nearly 1,200 companies, including many exporters, have firmly taken root in the 370-km2 region,
which boasts six industrial parks. The area is linked to an infrastructure of cutting-edge services:
large quantities of quality drinking water, a gas line, landfill and high-speed fibre optic Internet
network. Additionally, seven hydroelectric plants, including the Beauharnois Generating Station,
one of the largest in the world, supply clean energy to the region.
Proximity to these many resources and the affordability of land means that operating costs are
among the lowest in North America, making Roussillon a thriving industrial, commercial, agricultural
and residential focal point.

contributes to Quebec’s economic strength through the many
niche sectors in which it excels.
Due to the many industrial spaces still available for development, redevelopment and requalification, the
region represents an excellent set-up opportunity for a wide range of industries and businesses. It also
offers outstanding conditions for the transportation and logistics industry and the plant, animal and
processed food industry—from production to processing and distribution. In fact, the region is currently
in the planning phase of a significant intermodal logistics platform of national interest.
Roussillon is a fertile land and a place where many suppliers choose to set up shop and grow their
business. Products used in the manufacture of Montreal subway cars pass through here; at the crossroads
of Plattsburgh (USA), Montreal and La Pocatière (in eastern Quebec).
Our trade with New York State amounts to nearly CAN$8B per year, making it Quebec’s leading
international export market. Exports to Ontario amount to more than CAN$30B, while imports border
the CAN$40B mark.
Government development of the Quebec-New York and Quebec-Ontario trade corridors will greatly
benefit the region. It will increase the transport of goods, especially along Highway 30 (now on track
to completion), and create a new east-west trade dynamic.

and are renowned throughout Canada: Les hautes études Commerciales (HEC) de Montréal, École

A boom in Roussillon’s construction sector has resulted
in an availability of homes suited to a wide range of income
brackets for families who choose to settle in the region.
Neighbourhood life revolves around nearby schools, parks, sports facilities and shops. This minimizes
travel time and creates a living environment that promotes a healthy work-family balance. It is also
a very safe and close-knit community.
The health care network provides access to a comprehensive range of services.
The regional health centre is home to one of the best hospitals in Quebec and offers
surgery and obstetric services. Of course, all other health care professionals
can be found here.
Community life abounds with touristic and cultural offerings: the national historic site for
Vieux-La Prairie, the Canadian Railway Museum at Delson/St-Constant, the Sainte-Catherine
récréoparc and the Marguerite d’Youville Wildlife Refuge in Châteauguay.
There are also many major attractions in nearby Montreal, such as Festival International de Jazz
de Montréal, the Just for Laughs Festival, Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal, La Ronde amusement
park, la Grande Bibliothèque, les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montréal, modern dance troops,

In addition, the city is home to professional sports including the celebrated Montreal Canadiens hockey

Roussillon is also one of Quebec’s best outdoor excursion destinations. The region has bike paths for
the whole family to enjoy, as well as walking paths and spectacular waterways like the Châteauguay
River and Lake St. Louis.
Citizen awareness for protecting the environment is clear: Châteauguay Municipal Library, winner
of two prestigious architectural awards, was designed to generate energy savings. This green building
is renowned for its rooftop garden and geothermal heating system, among others. Elsewhere, waste
recycling levels are very high and have prompted many environmental companies to relocate to Roussillon,
a “green” region that will soon welcome wind power projects.
