KNOW HOW
Supplying files:
WHITE INK
Setting up files for white ink printing in InDesign or Illustrator:
1.Create a new layer that will contain the white part of your design.
This layer should be named “White.” (Please make sure the W is a
capital letter).
2.When this layer is in place, create a new colour swatch. Start by clicking
on “Window,” then “Colour,” then “Swatches.” The Swatch Palette
will appear.
3.Click in the upper right hand corner of the Swatch Palette and select
“Add New Colour.” It will default to black, but we suggest that you
make the colour Magenta, so you can see it on screen.
4.Use the Colour Type drop-down menu to select “Spot.” Change the
Swatch Name to “White,” with the W capitalised. Click “OK.”
5.On the White layer, with the White colour, design the objects/parts that
you would like to be printed in white.
6.Click “Window,” then “Output,” then “Attributes.” Put a check in the
box next to Overprint Fill (and Overprint Stroke if applicable).
7.When you save your file, the “White” layer should be at the top, with all
of the rest of the artwork behind it.
8.Saving your file: Illustrator: Save it as a PDF. Please select “Marks and
Bleeds” on the left hand side then check the box for “Trim Marks” and
check the box for “Bleeds” (making sure it has 3mm Bleed).
P.T.O
InDesign: Save you file first. Then export as a PDF; Click “File,” then “Adobe PDF
Presets,” then select “PDF/X-1a:2001.” Please select “Marks and Bleeds” on the
left hand side then check the box for “Trim Marks” and check the box for “Bleeds”
(making sure it has 3mm Bleed).
Setting up files for white ink printing in Photoshop:
1.Click “Window,” then “Channels.” Click in the upper right hand corner and select
“New Spot Channel.”
2.Create a new spot channel that will contain the white part of your design.
This channel should be named “White.” (Please make sure the W is capitalised).
3.On the White channel design the objects/parts that you would like to be printed in
white.
4.Save your files as a Photoshop PDF. Check the box for Alpha Channels. Please
select “Marks and Bleeds” on the left hand side then check the box for “Trim
Marks” and check the box for “Bleeds” (making sure it has 3mm Bleed).
“Align + distribute.”
