Dear Friends,
Thanks to medical technology, research and incredible care, approximately 70 percent of
wish kids today overcome their medical conditions.
But the journey to survival is no easy task for any kid. It is often filled with exhausting periods
of uncertainty and countless treatments where joy is often overshadowed. This is where a
Make-A-Wish experience comes in.
A wish come true is a chance for kids with life-threatening medical conditions to lay down
their burdens and reclaim their childhood. Wish kids and families report overwhelming joy
of experiencing something extraordinary, filled with imagination and wonder giving them
hope and strength. A wish come true offers a lifetime of positive impact on wish children,
their families and the entire community.
These experiences drive us in everything we do. We are able to do our important work
because YOU. When you support Make-A-Wish Minnesota, you are not just helping give
kids a nice trip or experience. You are helping us forever change the lives of Minnesota
kids and their families.

We grant the wishes of children with life-threatening
medical conditions to enrich the human experience
with hope, strength and joy.

At Make-A-Wish® Minnesota, we grant wishes to children throughout
Minnesota who are 2½ to 18 years old living with life-threatening
medical conditions.
Children come to us unsure of what their futures hold. During tough
times when these children and their families are facing surgeries,
treatments, high medical bills and diminished spirits, a wish come
true is often an essential ingredient to boost children’s attitudes and
emotional strength.
Although all the children we serve face life-threatening conditions,
not all diagnoses are terminal. In fact, many wish children become
survivors.

Madison

Burnsville • neurological disease
“I wish to go on a Disney® cruise”
Madison is an active eight-year-old who loves playing
outdoors. Although she battles a rare neurological
disorder that affects her nervous system, immune
system, and other systems in her body, she doesn’t
let her condition get in her way of enjoying life. When
Madison isn’t being an active little girl, she enjoys
watching Disney® movies with her family.
Passionate about Disney®, Madison wished to go on
a Disney® cruise. As she set sail for her adventures
at sea, Madison got the chance to embrace her
childhood to the fullest leaving behind all the worries
that are part of living with a life-threatening medical
condition.
Aboard the cruise ship, Madison got the chance
to meet her favorite Disney® princess, Ariel. She also
enjoyed dinner at the Enchanted Garden dressed
up as Princess Jasmine, had fun exploring the cruise
ship pods, and experienced a dolphin encounter.
“It was great seeing the joy on Madison’s face with
everything she did,” said Madison’s mother, Ashley.
“Being able to relax as a family and not have any
worries about appointments – it was great.”

Whether it’s a one-time gift or given

by the Minnesota children whose wishes we
strive to grant. You can donate by mail or
online.
Donate treasures and auto:
You can help create magical experiences
for wish kids by donating building materials,
electronics, vehicles or other new items.
PLANNED GIVING
Planned giving is one way you can continue
to bring hope, strength and joy to the lives
of Minnesota wish children. By including
Make-A-Wish Minnesota in your estate plans,
you can provide the resources to change
the lives of children now and in the future.
One of the simplest and most efficient
ways of supporting Make-A-Wish
Minnesota is making a donation through
automatic payroll deduction. Although
Make-A-Wish Minnesota is NOT a United
Way agency, you can still designate funds
via their “Donor Option” program by
writing “Make-A-Wish Minnesota” in the
donor option section of your pledge form.
Turn your $100 donation into $200 without
any additional money from your wallet!

Herman • retinoblastoma
“I wish to meet Luke Bryan”
Tatum is a happy eight year old girl with
retinoblastoma who loves arts and crafts,
technology and music. The hardest thing she
has had to endure is losing her hair and missing
time with her friends.
Tatum’s wish was influenced by her love of music.
She wished to meet her favorite country singer,
Luke Bryan. The opportunity came up for Tatum
to meet Luke at the 2013 CMA Country Christmas
Concert in Nashville, Tenn. Her wish was a
complete surprise to Tatum; only her parents
knew until the day arrived to fly to Nashville.
Tatum’s wish day was filled with pampering, an
exclusive hang out with Luke Bryan, and a bag FULL
of goodies to take home. That night at the CMA
Country Christmas Concert, Tatum was invited on
stage by country artist Jennifer Nettles to help
introduce Luke Bryan and Willie Robertson.
“It was like she didn’t have cancer for the whole
week! I will never be able to explain the happiness
we all felt. We will have this memory in our hearts
forever,” reflects Lisa, Tatum’s mom.

“I wish to go swim with dolphins”
Caleb is a kind, loving and active seven year old
boy. He lives with a bone disease that prevents
him from rough housing with friends, riding his
bike and playing high contact sports. Caleb has
found a release for his energy in swimming.
Caleb’s wish was to swim with dolphins. This trip
was a way for Caleb to participate in activities
with his siblings that were safe enough for
everyone. The dolphin that Caleb swam with was
named CJ. “When CJ spoke, he sounded like a
fishing rod! He felt like slippery rubber and tasted
fishy when I kissed him,” explained Caleb.
Caleb had a great wish experience from the very
beginning to the very end. Caleb’s wish reveal
was as fun of an experience as the actual wish!
He started his day with a treasure hunt around
the Mall of America and ended the day with his
wish reveal live on TV as part of the WCCO-TV
Wishes in Flight Miles Drive.

“I wish to meet the Boise State Broncos”
To say that Shane is a super fan of the Boise State
Broncos is a bit of an understatement. Shane’s
bedroom is decked out in all that is orange, blue
and Boise State related. That is why when Shane,
who is living with spina bifida, thought about his wish,
choosing one was a simple task; to meet the Boise
State Broncos!
This wish is one that Shane will never forget. Before
he even arrived on the field, the entire stadium was
eagerly awaiting his arrival. Shane and his wish had
been featured on local news channels in the weeks
leading up to his big debut at the game.

Shane. We will never forget it!

Shane had a one-on-one experience with the coach
and players of the team, had two football players
as his bodyguards during the trip, and, the team
members even took him on a shopping spree at the
school store! Shane’s parents had to buy extra luggage
just to get his gifts home! In addition to the jerseys,
blankets and other trinkets, Shane also bought a new
Boise State Broncos mailbox!
After the big shopping spree, Shane got to rush the
field with the team while the crowd in the stadium
cheered him on! This is an experience that not
everyone gets to have, and Shane will get to hold
these memories in his heart forever.
