Clare but we are also at the centre of the community and we value everyone who shows, performs, reads, creates or participates in any way in all that we offer throughout the year. As always we aim to ensure that our programme has something for everyone. We’ll be switching the Christmas lights on and hanging baubles out of every corner to prepare for our Christmas Treat for families on December 6th. Come and visit Santa, who has kindly taken time out to visit us, have a hot chocolate in our café and stay for the exquisite Little Light, then let your hair down for our rocking winter sing along, make a snowman and stay for our screening of a favourite Christmas movie, the original 1947 version of Miracle on 34th Street starring the late, great Maureen O’ Hara. December also brings Ballet Ireland with Coppélia, Julie Feeney in spectacular voice and The WhistleBlast Quartet with The Nutcracker. To kick off our wonderful winter season, we’re offering an early bird booking package on selected events where you see this delightful birdy icon. If you book that event on or before close of business on Monday 18th January get a 10% discount on your ticket… Early Bird tickets are limited to the first 50 tickets for each of these events, so when they’re gone, they’re gone. This season we have devoted a section of our brochure to Clare Arts, featuring the many great community theatre and music events we’ve got coming up, including pantomime Aladdin, Christmas showcases and The Ennis Players with The Loves of Cass Maguire. We introduce our own community programme called Inside Out. glór will connect with practicing artists through our collaboration with The Artist’s Resource Room, supported by Clare Arts Office. A number of creative projects for children and young people are also being initiated. These include The Rainbow Project for 3 to 5 year olds facilitated by Joanna Parkes, Picture This for 4th to 6th class in primaries facilitated by our poet and artists in residence and supported by Poetry Ireland and The Magic Box which will see senior infants to third class visit the gallery each month, exploring and responding to our visual arts programme. We’ll be busy this winter preparing for the first ever Léamh Festival as part of the Ennis Book Club Festival, which on 4th, 5th and 6th March celebrates 10 years ar an bhfód. So look out for the programme which will be available in the coming weeks – if winter comes, can spring be far behind! In the past year Sean has toured America, England, Austria and Germany, both as a solo artist and with his sister, Dolores. Nathan is now just over three years on the road with his band, and has recorded five albums and two DVDs. Wagon Wheel has become a huge hit for Nathan, with over a million hits on YouTube. Her three albums have been widely, critically acclaimed internationally, receiving numerous awards and she has created a whole host of stunning music videos to accompany them. Her opera Bird goes into full production in 2017. Sharp witted, unpretentious and fiercely passionate, Julie Feeney is a genuine artist and a hugely enjoyable performer. 2015 saw her perform her own shows in Amsterdam, Mexico, Italy, all over Ireland and New York numerous times, and she premiered her one woman show in Dublin, which ran for seventeen performances. But the brother and his family to whom she returns really have no need of her, and ship her off to a rest haven for old dreamers. Nothing is as Cass envisioned it and she begins living off past memories. And though her memories now have a bitter taste, we know that in time, and with the telling, they will be suffused with the aura of pleasant dreams. This production of The Loves of Cass Maguire will be all the more poignant due to Friel’s recent death and also marks the 40th anniversary of the play’s debut in New York in 1965. information & booking - www.glor.ie clare arts @ glór ALADDIN Inside Out PROGRAMME FOR CHILDREN & YOUNG PEOPLE THE RAINBOW PROJECT From Feb €70 for 10 Weeks| For ages 3 – 5 Limited numbers Commencing in February, children and their parent/ carer, will work with Joanna Parkes to create an interactive drama piece through music, movement and storytelling. With the children, Joanna will explore the colours of the rainbow and from this, associate colour with feelings, moods and emotions. Joanna will lead with her most recent work - The King of the Sea’s Party and from there, as glór’s artist in residence, will work with children and their parents to create a theatre piece, using colour and music to generate stories that describe how and what very young children feel and experience. JOANNA PARKES is an experienced Drama practitioner inside out @ glór who works in theatrical contexts in the Outreach/ Education department at The Abbey Theatre and with The Ark, the national children’s cultural centre, to develop interactive drama & storytelling workshops for 3 to 6 year olds. information & booking - www.glor.ie MAGIC BOX AND GUIDED TOURS The spring programme will see a monthly children’s experimental visual arts workshop take place in our gallery. Children, from senior infants to third class, will visit the gallery once a month, commencing in January, and will be invited to experiment and use their imaginations. With the gallery programme as the context, children’s workshops will be playful sessions which will be a creatively challenging exploration into visual art practices for primary school age children. Dates for Magic Box, which will be facilitated by glór artist’s team, will vary from month to month as our exhibitions move in and out of the gallery, so look out for further updates on our website and via your local school noticeboard. Booking is essential for these sessions. information & booking - www.glor.ie PICTURE THIS in association with Ennis Book Club Festival and Poetry Ireland Launched during the Ennis Book Club Festival on Friday 4th March. This spring sees glór generate Picture This, a print exhibition working with studios in Cork, Dublin, Limerick and Galway. Children from 4th to 6th classes in local primary schools will work with both our poet, (Pete Mullineaux), and artist in residence at glór, to create their own pictures and poems. Expect to see lots of colour and provocative images which will trigger the imagination and set the stage for an exploration of the world of poetry. Our artist in residence and poet in residence will visit local primary schools over a six week period generating the Clare Children’s Book Project which will be shown in the glór gallery later in 2016. Watch this space! Look out for Léamh in early March, a new element to the Ennis Book Club Festival, aimed at children and younger readers. PETE MULLINEAUX lives in Galway. He is widely published, and has written three poetry collections. Three plays have been produced by RTÉ radio and he has worked with several arts and education organisations. He is a mentor on Poetry Ireland’s writers in schools scheme and has also worked extensively on their Development Education through Literature project. information & booking - www.glor.ie THE FIRST FRIDAY SERIES glór collaborates with the Artist’s Resource Room, and supported by the Clare Arts Office, presents the First Fridays, a series of talks and interactions with some of Ireland’s leading visual arts practitioners, both curators and artists. FRIDAY 4 DEC 11.30AM: SEAN LYNCH Sean Lynch is a visual artist living in London and Askeaton, Limerick. He studied fine art at the Stadelschule, Frankfurt am Main. He has recently held solo exhibitions at Modern Art Oxford and Dublin City Gallery: The Hugh Lane. In 2015 he represented Ireland at the Venice Biennale. Clare. information & booking - www.glor.ie 30 YEARS, ARTISTS, PLACES From Mon 7 Dec – Thurs 21 Jan Curated by Muireann Ni Chonaill, Laois Arts Officer One of the most significant exhibitions of Irish artists in recent years will be launched in glór this December ahead of an extensive nationwide tour. The exhibition marks 30 years since Local Authorities embarked on providing for the arts locally, featuring 30 artists and 30 places, (Clare being the first county to appoint an arts officer in 1985). This is a must see, not just for the extraordinary line up of Irish artists who rarely find themselves curated into one room, but for the stories of how they each came to be purchased, commissioned or acquired by local authorities, therein lies the real narrative; the quiet, genuine and imaginative support for Irish artists demonstrated by our local government for the past 30 years. Featuring renowned artists such as Tony O’Malley, Alice Maher, Robert Ballagh, John Kindness, Norah McGuiness, Sean McSweeney, Sean Lynch and John Shinnors, Clare is represented by a work by Theo McNab, purchased in 1983. It is run on a voluntary basis. The aim of the Room is to provide a space for artistic dialogue in Co. Clare.
