We continued with the CHS senior breakfasts, continued to serve refreshments at the Awards Assemblies where the alumni scholarships are presented, to provide refreshments at the alumni football games, to have floats in the homecoming parades, and participated in the 2013 July 4th celebration by providing cotton candy and snow cones. We also had a booth at the 2013 Farm Fest, complete with surveys of the membership on activities they would like to see, web access for real-time viewing of the Alumni Association website (www.caboolalumni.com), and viewing of the new Cabool Alumni Association face book page (please like on fb). Since our last reunion, three projects have been approved to help improve our high school facilities; $1,000 has been set aside to fence the new practice field which is being built between the baseball and football fields, a check for $5,500 was presented to Superintendent Wes Davis at the second home football game which paid for 7 additional rows of seat backs at the football stadium, and we are currently raising funds to complete a $14,000 lighting repair project for the baseball field. These funds are being raised through generous donations from alumni and businesses, with over $3,000 in cash and prizes donated so far. The prizes are being offered in a series of three raffles, the first of which raised $1030. See pages 4 and 5 for details on the raffles. In an effort to save mailing fees, we will try to send as many newsletters through email as possible. We will also post the newsletter on our Cabool Alumni face book page, and it will be published in the Cabool Enterprise. Lastly, we will print and provides some copies to the class contacts for mailing to their class members without computer access. Our Alumni Association has had a good two and a half years since we last met. I really hope to see you at the 2015 All School reunion. Alumni Association and Alumni Park Fund Raisers Currently, four area businesses or organizations are advertising on the Alumni Association website at www.caboolalumni.com: Cabool Tires, United Country Realty, Texas County Technical College, and Cabool State Bank. They are taking advantage of the great deal of only $200/yr. to get their information out to our alumni. Businesses and organizations are encouraged to advertise on the website which receives approximately 800 hits per month during all-school reunion years. The annual fees go toward alumni scholarships. A new scholarship has been established, the Steve Montgomery Memorial Scholarship. A benefit volleyball tournament and chili supper was held November 1st to help raise funds. Another fund raiser which is often overlooked, because it coincides with the loss of our loved ones, is a charitable endowment. Very nice endowment in lieu of flower envelopes have been developed and have been placed at local funeral homes for friends or family members of alumni who wish to donate in memory of their loved ones. As previously mentioned, three raffles are being conducted to help with the baseball field lighting repairs. Cash donations for this project have been received from several area businesses/organizations thus far, including: Matherly Insurance, Cabool Tires, Cabool Home Center, Dr. Jim Perry OD Family Vision Center, Hiett Land & Title, the Cabool Development Foundation, and Casey's Inc. Page 5 of 6 Superintendent's Letter 2014 The last few years have been exciting at Cabool Schools. Before I write about facility changes and grants, I want to spotlight a few highlights of our students and staff. The last time I wrote this letter, I was excited to mention that our Biology scores were the eleventh in the state of Missouri. This has in fact changed; last year Cabool students were 3rd in the state! Our students continue to excel! From high scores on Missouri state tests, to Vo-Ag competitions, to band contests, our students continue to make the district look good. And we could not be any prouder! I want to personally thank all the hard work of our students, staff, and parents – KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK! During the 2013-14 school year, the district was awarded a Wellness Grant thanks to the Missouri Foundation of Health. This is a comprehensive approach to address childhood obesity in the state of Missouri. Cabool R-IV Schools was one of 13 schools in the state of Missouri selected to receive this funding. This grant has provided awareness, events, and activities for students grades K-8 to help fight childhood obesity. It has also provided healthy choices for the staff and some athletic training assistance for the student athletes of the district. The school district continues to try to make upgrades and improvements to technology. We continue to expose our students to the newest and latest advancements in technology. This includes SmartBoards, traveling laptops, iPads, and wireless high speed internet. Two years ago, the district added a complete wireless network district wide. With the help of the Cabool Alumni Association, we also continue to improve our athletic facilities. In September, we were able to add additional backs to some of the bleachers at Mitch Carmack Stadium. Currently, we are working to improve the lighting at Cook Field. None of this would be possible without the resources from the alumni. As always, I encourage you to drive by and see what is happening at Cabool Schools. If you have time, stop by and we can give you a tour. Go Bulldogs!!!! Dr. Wesley L. Davis Cabool R-IV Superintendent of Schools Class of 1992 Your Cabool High School Alumni Association Needs You! Yes, we need your help in any way you can contribute, either financially or by donating your valuable time. Each year, your annual dues and donations allow the Alumni Association to award scholarships to deserving students, to help fund Project Prom and Project Graduation, to provide financial support for improvements to school grounds and facilities, and other worthwhile projects for our school and community. Your support is very important and very much appreciated. During the past year the association has conducted fund raising projects and raffles to help raise funds for new bleacher backs at the football stadium and other needed improvements on the CHS campus. Your willingness to purchase tickets and support the programs has made them successful fund raising efforts. We thank you for your previous support and ask for your continued support for future events. The success of the Alumni Association depends on your participation and support. That support comes in many forms, for example: we need local members to get involved, especially younger alumni from classes in the 1970's through the present, to come to the meetings with new ideas and to help with future projects. We need all alumni, wherever you're at, to stay connected with CHS and the Alumni Association. To help keep everyone informed we have a website (www.caboolalumni.com), which we pledge to keep more current, and a face-book page (like Cabool Alumni on facebook), which you can visit and share information, and we frequently have information in the Cabool Enterprise in hardcopy (newspaper) and on-line at www.caboolenterprise.com. Please use these sources to keep your addresses and information updated so we can keep you informed of alumni events. Participating and staying connected sounds simple, but this can be difficult in our busy, hustle and bustle, world. However, if you can attend a couple of meetings a year and are willing to network and collect and share information, it will be much easier and efficient to keep all CHS alumni informed of what we are trying to do to support our school. Please don't forget, the next All School Reunion will be Memorial Day weekend, May 22nd - May 24th, 2015. It is always a great time to renew old acquaintances and share memories from the past. We appreciate the following businesses who are sponsors on the Alumni Website www.caboolalumni.com. Their annual support of $200.00 each helps the Cabool Alumni Association to give scholarships to CHS students. These ads appear on the website for one year beginning June 1. If interested in placing an ad, please contact the following email address: [email protected] Texas County Technical College 800 835-1130 Page 6 of 6
