The Greenville Christian - Greenville First Christian Church
The Greenville Christian
Volume 59 Number 22| November 7, 2012
is a time to reflect and be thankful for all that God has given
us. Let us not only be thankful one day a year but celebrate
the greatness of our God with thanks everyday! Consider the
needs highlighted throughout the newsletter as a way to show
gratitude. W.T. Purkiser put it this way, “not what we say
about our blessings, but how we use them, is the true measure of our thanksgiving.”
SALVATION ARMY BELL RINGERS
FOOD PANTRY VOLUNTEERS
FCC has been given several dates in December
to volunteer at IGA to ring the bell for the
Salvation Army. The money collected stays in
the county and are used throughout the year
as benevolence funds. If you, your family,
small group or an organization in which you
are involved would like to help, sign up sheets
are available near the Welcome Center.
December is our church’s month to staff the
food pantry at the Bond County Senior Center.
Four volunteers are needed on each Monday
and Thursday from 1-3 p.m. to pack food
boxes. Also, on December 10th at 12:30 p.m.,
several volunteers are needed to unload the
Center’s commodities truck. The sign up
sheet is near the Welcome Center.
CHRISTMAS FOOD BASKETS
Cereal is being collected for Christmas
Food Baskets for needy families in Bond
County. Our goal is 400 boxes. Please
drop off any donations outside the
church office before Sunday, December
2nd.
BENEVOLENCE FUND
Is used on a weekly basis to minister
to the needy as circumstances arise.
This fund includes financial counseling, helping people find work, and, if
necessary, providing them with
goods and services.
TOYS FOR JOY & HIGHER GROUNDS PARTNER SUPPORT
Toys for Joy provides gifts for less fortunate children in Bond County. Angels are on
the tree outside the church office. You can select an angel for a boy or girl in ages
ranging from 6 months—18 years. Please provide a gift in the $25 range and return
it to the tree unwrapped by Monday, December 10th.
Also, all proceeds from Higher Grounds this month will support Toys for Joy. Be
sure to stop by Sunday mornings from 8—10:30 a.m. and enjoy coffee and pastries
to support great causes each month.
CHRISTMAS DECORATING
OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD
Is Saturday, November 24th at 9 a.m.
in the Family Life Center. It continues
on Sunday, November 25th at 1 p.m.
in the sanctuary.
Operation Christmas Child brings joy and hope to children in desperate situations worldwide through simple, gift-filled shoeboxes and evangelistic materials that tell the good
news of God’s love. Here are some ways you can make a difference.
Both days will be
filled with lots of
things to carry, untangle and fluff. No
decorating experience needed; all
experience levels
are needed.
1.
Pray that God will touch the heart of every child
who receives a shoebox gift.
2.
Pack a shoebox with small toys, school supplies,
personal hygiene items, hard candy, etc. Include
$7 donation to help with shipping.
3.
Volunteer to receive boxes at our church during
collection week, Nov 12-18th. The signup sheet
is at the Welcome Center.
Bolen’s Alley
We just witnessed a Presidential
election in which $2 billion was spent
by the campaigns. I’m writing this on
Tuesday, so the outcome has yet to
be determined. Whoever comes out
on top, we as God’s people need to
pray for them as well as our other
leaders on the national, state and
local level. I’m afraid to often we are
really good at criticizing them, but
really poor at getting on our knees
and lifting them up to our Heavenly
Father. 1 Timothy 2:1 implores us to
pray for our leaders regardless of our
opinion of them. We’ve been talking
a lot about praying this church forward. We also need to pray this nation forward. This weekend I’ll be
continuing our series from 1 John on
walking. In Robert Fulghum’s quote,
“All I ever needed to know I learned
in Kindergarten”. He said, “When you
go out into the world, when you go
out in the world, watch out for traffic, hold hands and stick together.
That’s some mighty good advice regardless of age. Hope to c u this
weekend and a whole bunch more as
we focus on our need to stay connected to one another.
P.S. As the year begins to wind down,
we once again will be appointing
elders and deacons to lead this
church family. Those are such significant roles, we want your input.
Nomination forms are available in
the alcove across from the church
office and need to be turned in by
Sunday, December 2nd.
P.S.S. Also remember all of our opportunities to share the love of Christ
this Christmas season through Operation Christmas Child, Toys for Joy
and our Christmas Food Baskets.
Thanks for caring and sharing.

Would you be willing to connect with
someone new to FCC and visit with them
over a cup of coffee? We are looking for
your help to stay connected with new
believers and/or new members of FCC.
The commitment is little and the reward
is abundant. Call or stop and talk to John
Heston.

THANK YOU to all that had a part in
sending us to Nicaragua again this year.
You are sending another 600 New
