Light the Way Campaign Update
Light the Way Campaign is wrapping up
Notre Dame is in the final stretch of our Light the Way campaign with $11.3 million pledged toward our $13 million goal
($1.7 million remaining goal). Thank you to all who offered such generous support! As a result we have completed:

Gym: A new maplewood court, heavy-duty exterior doors and air conditioning.
Holy Cross Center: Conversion and remodeling of the former Holy Cross Brothers residence into the school’s administrative and counseling center with conference rooms.
Barry Stubblefield Library & Allegretti Building: A complete technological renovation of our library and remodeling of classrooms/offices in the Allegretti Building.
Joseph E. Rawlinson Aquatic Center: A new all-deep, 8-lane pool with pool building for competitive swimming and water polo.
Marine Corps Memorial Stadium: The best and most beautiful high school baseball stadium in the country.
Notre Dame’s proposed Gym lobby and fitness
Notre Dame is preparing for the last phase of our Light
the Way campaign projects. Included in the projects are
the new Fitness Center and Lobby to the Gym. The project which is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2015,
will demolish the old swimming pool to make room for
the construction of a new 5,600 square-foot fitness center
with coaches offices. In addition, a new 2,200-square foot
lobby will be constructed at the back of the gym, transforming it into the new lobby and entrance of the gym.
This new lobby will feature our Hall of Fame gallery, trophy cases, and concession areas. This $2 million project
currently has $1.3 million pledged .

One of the other priorities of the Light the Way campaign
is increasing Notre Dame High School’s Endowment.
Raising funds for tuition assistance is at the core of ND’s
Holy Cross mission. The Holy Cross Brothers founded
Notre Dame High School to provide quality Catholic education to all families, not only those who could afford
it. Today, without the contributed services of the Holy
Cross Brothers, our ability to keep a Notre Dame education within the reach of lower- and middle-income families is directly related to our ability to raise financial support. About one out of every three students who have
ever attended Notre Dame has received financial aid, and
the service of the Holy Cross Brothers made tuition affordable for all ND students.

THE CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD
D
ear Alumni, Parents, and Friends,
As an alumnus, the son of an alumnus, and the father of three Notre Dame alumni, I have seen Notre
Dame evolve over the past forty or so years into the
amazing place it is today. As Board Chair, I get to
work with passionate individuals, many of whom are
alumni or alumni parents themselves, in ensuring we
make NDHS the best it can be while maintaining the
mission of Blessed Father Basile Moreau to educate
the hearts and the minds of our students.
While some Catholic schools are reporting a drop in
admissions, interest in attending NDHS continues to
remain strong as we enrolled over 350 students for
the freshman class of 2018. Enrollment is at an alltime high with over 1,250 students. We continue to
broaden our student base geographically by offering
bus service from the West Side and West Valley, and
are exploring possible bus routes for the Santa Clarita
Valley and Pasadena areas.
Our sports programs continue to be strong, and the
offerings of band, theatre, robotics, debate, and visual
arts mean there is something for everyone at NDHS.
There is always something happening at ND as evidenced by a full parking lot, even at 9:00 at night.
This past spring, we unveiled two new jewels of our
athletic facilities. We dedicated the Joseph Rawlinson
Aquatics Center, which houses an all-deep, eight lane,
solar heated pool; locker rooms, and grandstand area.
Adjacent to the pool is Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, which is, without a doubt, the finest high school
baseball facility in the state, complete with stadium
seating, pro-style dugouts, team rooms and coaches
offices. One Board Member calls the area “Hallelujah
Corner.” If you haven’t seen the new complexes, stop
by and you will agree.
We plan to break ground in June 2015 for a new Gym
Lobby which will be located at the rear of the existing Gym, creating a new entrance to the gymnasium
that will include a concessions area and a trophy case
and recognition walls to display Athletic Hall of Fame
honors. We also will construct a new Fitness Center
complete with offices for our coaches and Athletic Director on the site of the old pool (yes, the old pool will
be demolished). We expect completion in early 2016.
We implemented the 1:1 Apple iPad program for
teachers and students this fall. Early reports show it
is successful with positive comments received from
teachers, students, and parents alike. Gone are the
days of 50-pound backpacks as most the text books
are now available in digital format.
As we wind down the Light the Way campaign, we
are seeking to increase our scholarship endowment.
Please consider establishing a scholarship or contributing to an existing scholarship fund. While NDHS
remains one of the best values in the area for private high school education, we want to make sure an
NDHS education continues to be available to all deserving students and families. Naming opportunities
remain for the aquatic center, the baseball stadium, the
gym lobby, and the fitness center so consider those
options as well.

The Notre Dame High School Golf Tournament held its 28th annual tournament in May 2014. The
The fourth annual Hall of Fame Dinner & Induction ceremony was held in February, combining
proceeds from this annual event enable deserving students in need of financial aid to receive a Holy

April. The year’s theme, “A Knight Across America,” took attendees experiencing the signs and
sounds of Universities around America. Proceeds from the event enrich the Holy Cross Mothers
Guild Scholarship Fund which grants tuition assistance to students in need of financial aid after a

our school community will enable Notre Dame to continue its rich heritage and to sustain its mission for decades to come. There are many opportunities to make charitable contributions to Notre
Dame High School and to express your commitment to our future.
Cash Gifts
Of the gifts made to Notre Dame
High School, most are paid through
cash (i.e. by check, credit card, or electronic fund transfer.) Cash is the easiest gift for a donor to make and for the
organization to receive. If you itemize
your deductions, you may be entitled
to an income tax deduction for all contributions in a given year of up to 50
percent of your adjust gross income
with a five-year carry-over period for
the excess.
Pledge
By far, most of the gifts made to Notre
Dame High School are in the form of
outright gifts. On occasion, or in the
case of a capital campaign, gifts are
initially made as pledges - typically
payable over three to five years. Often
pledges afford contributors the opportunity to make far more substantial
gifts than would likely be the case if
they were limited to making payment
in full within a single year.
Stocks & Bonds
Assets such as these are a great way to
give. A donor can save on capital gains
tax and may get a charitable income tax
deduction for the full fair market value.
An income tax deduction of up to 30
percent of your adjusted gross income
can be taken and still carry-forward
any excess up to five years
Real Estate
Over the years, most real estate has appreciated faster than the rate of inflation and
therefore, can offer great potential for a
charitable gift. Notre Dame High School
will consider accepting a gift of a home,
vacation property, condominium, apartment complex, undeveloped land or other
real estate in support of our mission.

Tangible Personal Property
Gifts of assets such as cars, jewelry and
boats are also welcomed. Gift acceptance
is based on approval of the Advancement
Office. You generally get a tax deduction
for the full fair market value (assuming

Memorial & Honorarium Gifts
During a bereavement period, family
and friends often see a donation to the
school as an appropriate means to express sympathy . The following message in the obituary of the deceased
provides an avenue to make a meaningful and thoughtful gift. “Memorial
gifts made be made to Notre Dame
High School, 13645 Riverside Drive,
Sherman Oaks, CA 91423”.
Paid Up Life Insurance
If one owns an insurance policy that is no
longer needed for its original purpose, it
can be given to the school. Notre Dame
High School must then become the owner
of the policy. In general, the donor will
be entitled to an income tax deduction for
the cash surrender value and can deduct
the amount of future premiums paid to
Notre Dame High School.
Charitable Lead Trusts
Through a transfer of cash, securities or
real estate into a Charitable Lead Trust,
Notre Dame High School will receive
income from the from the trust for a set
number of years after which the trust
principle is returned to the donor or the

In providing for the school in a person’s will, the donor’s lawyer should
be instructed that our corporate title is
“Notre Dame High School, Sherman
Oaks, CA”.
