At a recent Executive Officer meeting, I posed the question to my
colleagues “Bottom line, as a member of a Home Builders Association, what REALLY is a tangible benefit to a member vs. a licensed
non-member receiving industry benefits by riding on our coattails?”
Let’s face it, every time National has an industry success, i.e. defeating mandated sprinklers in new residential construction, a licensed
non-member benefits from that win also.
E O Expressions
Following are the answers I received:
#1-FOR ONLY $90 PER YEAR ($7.50 per month) YOU RECEIVE
EXCLUSIVE REGULATORY ASSISTANCE FROM HBA of MI, LEE
SCHWARTZ and EXCLUSIVE LOBBYING FROM DAWN CRANDALL. They WILL NOT assist non-members. How much would it
cost you to hire a lawyer to deal with certain issues that you can
call on Lee, Dawn or Bob Filka for?
#2-CONTINUING EDUCATION COURSE CREDITS FOR BUILDERS LICENSE RENEWAL AT MEMBER DISCOUNTED PRICING.
Local HBAs work very hard to keep you on the leading edge, at an
affordable cost, over your non-member competitors. Example—
Lead Paint; Fall Protection, etc.
I believe those are two solid tangibles that licensed non-members
cannot enjoy. Of course, we want the HBA to be fun and allow you
comradery at socials and mixers (I am good friends with Earl the
Squerl and Tyler…;-)
I welcome your opinion on tangibles you receive as an HBA member and areas we can improve on. Bottom line, this membership has
to be a benefit to your business.
Thank you for your continued support!

President’s Message: Chad Moody
Associates Council
Hey Everyone,
It was good seeing many of you at our annual
Golf Outing. I hope that you had as great of a
time as I did.
Hello,
I hope you are having a productive, fun summer! As
follow-up to my President’s message from the July
Builder Bits regarding the city sewer hookup price
increases, the HBA is working hard on your behalf
meeting with Jon Lynch, City Manager, to come to an
agreement to implement the increase in stages vs. all
at once effective Oct 1. More to come.
I just wanted to give you all a heads up on our
Hunt Night. This year’s Hunt Night will be held
at the Carriage House on October 9th. Please
save the date and be watching for more information to follow.
The next big event for the Association is Fall Parade
of Homes, October 5, 6, 12 &13. If you have an entry, thank you! However, there are several ways to
get involved if you do not have a house to enter~advertising in the guidebook, promoting the event
at your business, touring the entries!
I hope that everyone is have a great summer and
I am looking forward to seeing you at our upcoming events.
Sherry Mizer, Chair
Have a Great August!
Chad Moody, President
Remodelers Council
I hope you are all having a great summer and business is going well. We are all feeling good with the recent dedication of the Magnolia Deck in Dow Gardens in memory of Ben Kozuch. I know Joe and
Maureen were very appreciative of the efforts of the Remodelers Council. A big thank you! to all those
who donated funds to the project.
I just returned from the Summer Board Meeting of the HBA of MI with some real concerns over the Lead
Paint issue and what’s happening, or should I say not happening, with EPA. Bill Shaw, the current NAHB
Remodelers Chairman was in attendance and was very informative.
Look for exciting info coming on the Sept Welcome Back BBQ!
Enjoy Summer, Mike Kozuch, Chairman

CALLING NOMINATIONS FOR BOARD OF DIRECTOR SEATS!
It’s that time of year again when we need to begin to collect nominations to fill two Board

General Membership vote to take place at the October 9 Hunt Night. Installation will occur at the December 4 Holiday Event.
