Chicago area. Pheasant Run Resort is an all-inclusive facility with seven restaurants, a golf course, a hair salon and day spa, three swimming pools
(including a great indoor/outdoor pool), plus lots of entertainment options.
In the pages of this Conference Special, you will find over 100 painting
classes, representing oil, acrylic, watercolor, colored pencils, plus a variety
of other mediums. Classes range from beginner to advanced. Back again
this year is a mixture of two-and-three-hour classes, being offered Tuesday
through Friday. These are smaller and more intimate, with a class size of
24 students. These classes are included with the regular class selection.
Many of your favorite teachers will be joining us. We also have new teachers who are teaching with SDP for the first time! Please take the time to view
their projects and support their efforts.
Come to the Annual Meeting on Wednesday morning and exercise your
power to vote for your new Board of Directors. Learn about the Society business, and celebrate as we recognize members who have earned Certification.
Make sure to attend the Annual Banquet on Friday evening. Join your friends
for a wonderful meal and time together.
We look forward to seeing our painting friends from around the world and
spending the week painting and shopping together!

CLASSES AND EVENTS
All classes and events are presented in order of day and time. A list of teachers, in
alphabetical order, appears on page 33. To find out if a class is still available, visit the Class
Selection page of our website at www.decorativepainters.org, email [email protected], or call (316) 269-9300, ext. 104.
If a desired class is full at the time you register, you may request to be put on a waitlist
for that class. Every effort will be made to get you into your requested class if someone
cancels, or if we add a repeat of the class.
Study the information adjacent to the photos before making your selections. The skill
level, medium, surface, fees, included materials, class description, and times are listed. The
colored bar at the bottom of each class description indicates the type of class medium
offered; refer to the legend on the left.
CLASS ETIQUETTE
Smoking is prohibited in virtually all public places in the state of Illinois. Please set cell
phones to vibrate so they do not disrupt class. If you receive a call, be considerate of other
classmates and the teacher by leaving the room. Please also refrain from heavy perfumes, as
others may be allergic.
CLASS RESALE
The Society does not refund or purchase back any classes in which you are enrolled,
but are unable to attend. Classes are not transferrable to another person. However, a
bulletin board is provided in Class Sales for those who wish to sell their classes, or purchase
those offered by others. There is a resale fee of $5 per class. This fee must be paid prior to
posting your classes on the Class Resale board. If a class still has seats available,
SDP classes will be sold first and we cannot resell the class. If a class is sold
out or almost filled, we can try to resell the class for you. Before class starts, check with
Class Sales to see if your class was resold and to pick up your money. If your class was not
resold, you have the option to get the Class Resale receipt and take the class. If the class is
sold and the money is not picked up at Class Sales, it will be mailed after conference.
TWO AND THREE HOUR CLASSES
Back again this year is a mixture of two-and-three-hour classes, being offered Tuesday
acuarela
through Friday. These are smaller and more intimate, with a class size of 24 students. These
classes are included with the regular class selection.

Classes are designated by teachers as:
Beginner: For students with knowledge of the fundamentals of that medium; taught at a
slow pace, with teacher assistance.
Intermediate: For students with a good understanding of the fundamentals, and who are
proficient in that medium; taught at a medium pace, with moderate teacher assistance.
Advanced: For students with advanced skills in that medium; taught at a brisk pace, with
minimal teacher assistance.
Intensive Advanced Study: Provides a challenging experience for advanced painters
proficient in that medium.
Use the following guidelines when selecting classes: Do not enroll in an advanced class
if you have been painting only a short while. When you choose an unfamiliar medium,
select a beginning project. Choosing classes beyond your skill level may create hardship for
the teacher and other students in the class. If you select a class below your skill level, you
may find the class is conducted at a slower pace.
MATERIALS/COSTS
Class fees and projects are combined and show the total amount due. Project fees are
not collected in the classroom. Due to possible discontinuation of surfaces by the manufacturer, or similar circumstances, project surfaces may vary from original surface shown in
photos. Teachers will make every effort possible to closely match surface shown in original
project photo.
SPECIAL SUPPLIES
Many classes require special supplies, and it is the student’s responsibility to bring them.
Your teachers will expect you to have the listed items when you arrive for class. In addition,
you will be expected to have the Basic Supplies listed on page 32. Note that brush cleaner
is provided in classes where oil-based media are used. Due to building and fire codes,
aerosol propellants may be used only in specified areas.

happening in Chapters all over the world, how they operate, attract
new members, raise funds, and much more. Meet new people,
make new friends. Every Chapter should be represented by one or
more officers and members. The theme for this year’s Conference is
GEAR UP FOR ART. If you would like, participate in the Creative
Challenge Exchange. Put your creative hat on and show everyone
your interpretation of our theme. Create an 8" by 8" piece of art
using any surface, in any media. To participate in the exchange, you
must bring the piece. Participation in the Challenge is open to all
Gathering attendees and is optional.
**You do not have to register for Conference to attend the Gathering, but you
must pre-register for this event. All SDP members are welcome to attend whether
or not you are affiliated with a Chapter. Please join us and find out more about
