NUMBER 4
Potentate’s Message
My Fellow Nobles;
This will be my last message in the Irem News as Potentate, I applaud the volunteers that have given much of their time and talents to make this as successful a year as
it has been. We have survived another year despite the actions of some to detract and
cause dissention among the nobles and brothers instead of working in harmony to make
Irem more productive and in harmony as the oaths and obligations that they took
require them to do. They are all about their own agendas and not for the betterment of
all and they know who they are. They have blamed this divan for causing the problems
that we are experiencing and they are the ones that put us in this position because of
not following any By-laws Imperial or Ours. They never brought anything of importance to the body for their vote as required and least of all entered into agreements without having a lawyer look at them. That my fellow nobles is in the past; we have to look
forward and strive to make Irem a place for all nobles and their families to enjoy. I
believe we have started on that track as we have made improvements to the grounds,
(Rifle and pistol Range), the pavilion with a new modern kitchen setup so that in the
future we can have many events for the enjoyment of all our nobles. We need the input
of all Nobles, their time and talents, ideas and solutions in order to keep this philanthropy as successful as it has been in the past and continue our work with the less fortunate children and now the wounded warriors. I implore YOU to get involved and find
out what we are about and what we do to relieve the burdens of the less fortunate. We
Ill. Cataldo J. Saitta, Potentate
are the best kept secret in the world as to what we accomplish in medicine and research
and his Lady, Charlotte
when you find out what we are about you will certainly be amazed as to how good we
really are. When a four year old child who was never supposed to walk as diagnosed by some runs up to you and says thank you and the
mother and grandmother look at you with tears of joy for what you have done for this child it is a tremendous feeling and that is what we
are about.
I still can’t understand why someone would join an organization as great as we are and not get involved in the process. We have Shrine
Clubs throughout our jurisdiction that are miles away from the Temple and they are out there doing great work for our children. So if you
think you are too far from the temple, get involved with these Shriners as you will find out that they are great humanitarians and some of
the finest people on earth. Nobles, should your Ladies find out exactly what we do and that we do it without regard of the persons ability
to pay you are in trouble because they will hound you to get involved and help the children of the world and change their lives for the better. This may be a man’s organization but the WOMEN are the driving force behind the success of the men and without them we will not
survive.
I would sincerely like to Thank All of You who have helped make this year as Your Potentate as enjoyable and fruitful as it has been.
Keep up the good work in the future with all our future leaders as no one can do this job alone, To those who worked to disrupt this year
and cause havoc, I am sorry to say that you only proved how small you are and did not succeed in your endeavors and hopefully you will
turn your lives around and start helping others instead of yourselves. Remember that no man is so tall as one who stoops to help a child.
May GOD BLESS each and every one of You and your families and keep you Happy, Healthy, and Safe.
Make an effort to get involved or at least find out what we are all about. I THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart.
Yours in the Faith,
Cataldo J. Saitta

From the By-Laws of the Imperial Council (the Law Governing Annual Elections)
For the guidance of the Nobility, we publish the law in regard to the proper way to conduct
an election of officers. It is as follows:
(e) Successive written ballots must then be taken in the same manner on other candidates
until all Representatives are elected.
Article 25 - Officers; Their Election or Appointment
(f) If more candidates receive a majority vote than the number of representatives to be
elected, then those receiving the greatest number of votes shall be declared elected.
Sec. 325-4
Each temple must elect its officers and representatives at its annual meeting in January,
unless its bylaws allow the election to occur at the temple’s stated meeting in December.
Sec. 325-5
(a) Election of officers shall be by separate written ballot and by a majority vote of
those present and voting. A blanket ballot is prohibited..
Sec. 325-6
Nominations must commence not later than 9:00 p.m. and when that hour arrives all
other business must cease and none may be transacted until the election is concluded.
Sec. 325-7
The temple may elect such other officers as its bylaws provide.
Sec. 325-8
Candidates for office and Representative must be placed in nomination from the floor.
Sec. 325-10 (a) Where a temple elects more than one Representative, all candidates must be balloted
for on one written ballot.
(g) Blank ballots or ballots containing any markings other than the name of a candidate
nominated from the floor are not votes and are not to be considered for any purpose.
Sec. 325-11 (a) A candidate for an elected office in a Shrine temple may print, publish and circulate
during the year he is seeking elected office, a resume consisting of his educational
background, his vocational history, and his Masonic and Shrine record. Except as
provided in the prior sentence, the printing, publication, circulating or distribution of
resolutions, letters, telegrams, tickets, email or other devices, by a Noble suggesting,
recommending, opposing or containing the names of proposed candidates for office in
the temple is prohibited.
(b) The expenditure on money for gifts, favors or entertainment on behalf of a candidate
is prohibited.
(b) Each member voting must vote for the total number of Representatives to be
elected, otherwise his ballot cannot be counted as a vote.
(c) For any violation of (a) or (b), the Imperial Potentate may suspend any offending
Noble, and he may declare the election of the officers void and order a new election.
(c) A majority vote of those present and voting is necessary to elect each representative.
(d) At least one week prior to the annual meeting or any election, the temple Recorder
shall mail to each member a notice thereof containing this section.
(d) Only those candidates who receive a majority vote shall be declared elected

GRATITUDE –
I went on line today to find out where our closest Shrine
organization was....and found out you are it! Could you please
pass this message on to your members?
I know fund raising is a thankless task. I just wanted you
folks to know you are appreciated! My husbands grandfather was
a Shriner and I am sure we NEVER appreciated all he did when
he was alive....we sure do now!
We recently adopted two girls from Ukraine. Our
youngest...Vika...has a condition called arthrogryposis. She cannot walk...but really wants to! In Ukraine, she did not even have
a wheelchair and moved by scooting on the ground.
We heard that you have an excellent hospital in
Philadelphia....and made an appointment. On July 3... We
learned that it was possible that Vika could walk. She had her
first surgery on August 8. It will be a LONG process...but she will
WALK! We now appreciate what my husband's grandfather was
doing...and want to make sure your members know that the gift
that they are giving kids like our new daughter is HUGE!!! Will
you please pass along our sincere thanks to all of them?
Thanks for giving our daughter a life!
Jeri Sayer
Pictured above are members of the Milton VFW and the
Susquehanna Motorcycle Club presenting checks to the Sunbury
Shrine Club for the Philadelphia Shriners Hospital for Children
totaling more than $9,000.00. Many thanks are given to these
two groups for their continued support of our Shriners Hospital.

Shrine Club of Greater Wilkes Barre
Holds Annual Ladies Night
The Shrine Club of Greater Wilkes Barre recently held its
Annual Ladies Night. The event always draws a large turnout.
Nobles and their Ladies were treated to a great dinner and each
Lady received a beautiful flower for her own personal garden.
In addition to recognizing the Ladies, the evening saw a plaque
presentation to Past President Sam DeSalvo of Pittston in recognition of his recently completed year of service as well as the induction of another new member, Clyde Stevens.
The purpose of the Shrine Club is to increase awareness and
appreciation of the extensive efforts of the Irem Shrine with regard
to physically handicapped children and in particular, The Shiner’s
Hospitals for Children, of which there are 22 around the country.
Shown in the photos are officers and members of the Shrine
Club of Greater Wilkes Barre.

ORIENTAL BAND RETAINS
FIRST PLACE AT MASA
by Olin Evans
For the second year in a row the Irem
Bedouins were declared “Best Oriental Band in
Parade” at MASA. This all started with
rehearsals as our Director Fred Dietrich repeatedly cracked his whip until the music was satisfactory to his standards.
So it was declared nine Oriental Bandsman
led by our President, James Hudock, would caravan across the desert on their camels to
Virginia Beach. Footsore and camel sore, they
finally arrived at their destination which included Steve Dreater, Jim Connors, Bob Rhoads,
Jack Powell, Jim Roberts, Luke Schofield and
Jim Mason.
The night before the parade our sheiks sat around the campfire knowing that the competition would determine our fate. Finally, our
director bent over and took up a handful of sand. The message he had visioned to the writings in the sand that through determined effort
our band would see it come to pass – great victories.
On the following morning we assembled our Sheiks for that important task. With the radiant rays of the sun shinning so brightly,
our band trekked the parade route with great effort and outstanding musical ability.
That night at the BIG TENT with many dignitaries of MASA, a great ovation was given as it was announced that the Irem Oriental
Band gained 1st Place, Division One in the band competition. Needless to say all persons connected with the band were extremely proud
of our efforts and I am certain all members were very much elated at gaining this beautiful trophy.
Our September meeting at the Irem Oasis, the band proudly displayed its trophy. Pictured above: 1st row L to R: James Roberts,
James Connors, Olin Evans, John Powell, Luke Schofield and Stephen Dreater. 2nd row L to R: James Mason, James Hudock, Robert
Rhoads, Director Fred Dietrich, Joseph Albert, Donald Joyce and Anthony DeLeo.
Wayne-Pike Shrine Club Activity Report
The Wayne-Pike Shrine Club has been busy; besides our regular meetings we have
had numerous events to raise money for the Shriners Hospitals. Our first fundraiser was
a coffee break held on May 25th and 26th at the Interstate 84 Pike County Rest Stop. We
provided free coffee, donuts, pastry’s, water and hotdogs, all donated by local merchants.
The wishing wells were placed about the property and collected a generous amount of
money for the Philadelphia Hospital. All the members that volunteered had a great time
talking to and listening to stories from people traveling from all over the country.
June 3rd the Wayne-Pike Shrine Club held a Golf Tournament at Cricket Hill Golf
Course. 97 players competed for the top prize; numerous merchants donated prizes and
money, all for the Shriners Hospital in Philadelphia.
June 15th Irem Uniformed Units joined Wayne-Pike Shrine Club for a Parade in
Waymart for the Pride and Patriotism Parade.
July 21st Wayne Pike Shrine Club hosted a Clam Bake for the Hillbilly Clan 119 at the Clover Leaf Sportsman Club in
Honesdale Pa. New members were installed, many traveled 50 miles or more to get there.
Wayne-Pike Shrine Club wanted to do something special for one of our patients who is an avid NASCAR fan. We got tickets
donated from our District 14 DDGM Charles W Grimm for the August 4th NASCAR race at Pocono. We arranged for a meeting
with NASCAR driver David Ragan who is a Shriner. David crossed the track with his golf cart to meet us at the end of the grand
stand by turn 1. We had a private meeting for pictures and talk, good time had by all as per
David’s tweet later that day.
The Wayne-Pike Shrine Bowl was held on September 6th at the Honesdale High School
Football Field. Honesdale Hornets and Wallenpaupack Bucks played the game, with
Wallenpaupack winning by 2 points. Marielle Roberts-McDonald was the Queen for the game.
The wishing wells were set up around the complex.
Our next meeting will be our election of Officers on November 25th at Tick-Tocks Restaurant
in Honesdale at 7:00PM, Cocktails at 6:00 PM. All Nobles are welcome to attend, call Charlie
Knapp at (570)685-8027, to make a reservation.
